My family and I completely lucked into this home only a few days before our vacation -- the resort where we had reservations was undergoing major renovations and would not be ready for our stay. I jumped to VRBO.com and this was one of the first houses I found...and definitely the best.
I have to recognize the owners first -- both Mr. and Mrs. were very pleasant, helpful, and extremely responsive (vital, since I had 6 other people completely prepared to go to Hilton Head, but no place for us to stay). The circumstances came together perfectly for our partial-week, last-minute rental and the owners accommodated our every need.
The house is truly beautiful. It's a nice walk to the beach for adults (too far for our little people and the pile of accoutrement they require, but that was easily addressed by an alternate beach access point). The house is roomy, but still comfortable and quiet. The setting among the trees and on the canal is serene, and the heated pool (for a completely reasonable surcharge) was a godsend for an unusually cool and wet spring-break. Even on the overcast and drizzly days when it was just a little too cool to brave the beach, our family was outside in the warm pool, having a great time.
If you look with a critical eye (very critical), you will find some details that could use some sprucing-up and all those beautiful trees meant I skimmed the pool a couple times a day…but none of this impacted our comfort or relaxation at all. You’d have to be extremely critical indeed for any of these to be a bother. I suppose my point is that you shouldn’t expect a brand-new (it isn’t) perfect house (what house is), but a completely comfortable, relaxing, clean, well-maintained, fully-appointed, beautiful home in a fantastic setting provided by perfectly pleasant owners.
Really, unless you’re going to pay the huge premium for beach-front, this is the place for your family. Our family from 6-months-old to 53 loved every minute of it and hated to leave. We’re already trying to figure out how fast we can return.
We find this bright, beautiful home to be immaculately maintained and extremely comfortable. It's very private and quiet, but only a short walk to the beach. It has all of the amenities that you could hope for in a rental property, including tennis privileges at the top-rated Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center. The home is very tastefully decorated and appointed yet offers a casual and relaxing atmosphere. The grounds are lovely with beautiful live oaks, a swimming pool and spa, two docks, and a gorgeous lagoon setting. It's a perfect home to share with family or friends with the luxury of private baths for each bedroom. We have enjoyed meals in the bright kitchen eating area, the formal dining area, on the deck and even drinks on one of the docks, watching wildlife in the lagoon. We always look forward to coming back to what now feels like our second home. The owners are exceptionally pleasant to work with. They are very responsive to any questions or situations that might need their attention. They have also been very accommodating regarding any suggestions or requests. We highly recommend this lovely home.
2 week late stay in August. My wife and I shared first week with two couples and second week with one couple we've been friends with for more than 50 years. Rental property is terrific...pool is maintained twice weekly and it's great to take a dip or lounge around the pool or sit down on the dock at the canal, watching the cranes and herons...on arrival, house was very clean, flat-screen t-v's in each bedroom as well as living room. Home has large living room, dining room, big kitchen, including breakfast area, screened-in porch in back next to adjacent open porch area. Had several barbecues on back porch using owner's clean propane grill during our stay and visited several of Hilton Head's top restaurants...many are located within a mile of the house. Recommend Ruan Thai, Alfred's, Flora's Italian, Old Fort Pub and for sandwiches, Gruby's Jewish Deli at Fresh Market Center on Rte. 278, the main thoroughfare on HH. I played golf at Jones course at Palmetto Dunes with my three male friends, as well as Hills course at Palmetto Hall, Robber's Row at Port Royal(terrible shape) and Oyster Reef twice...this course is one of the top three I've played at Hilton Head over the past five visits to the island. Other two courses at Palmetto Dunes were being aerated or we would have played these as well. Made day trips to Charleston, Savannah, and Beaufort. Owner of home is one of the nicest and responsive people I have dealt with in a long time. It's nice to know these folks still exist in our world. I will absolutely recommend this property to my friends, relatives or anyone who seeks my advice.
