Family & Friends holiday - St. Vincent, April 2011

We have just returned from a two week holiday to St. Vincent - where a party of 9 of us stayed at Spanish Pointe villa.
We made Spanish Pointe our base for the holiday, although we did spend a few days in other locations (including Bequia and the Buccament Bay resort).
The holiday was excellent, and the villa was exactly as described. The views from the villa really are stunning.
We visited quite a few beaches around the island, but preferred the beaches around Villa (just south of the airport) - particularly because there were some excellent restaurants there, which meant we could enjoy a rum punch or two at the end of the day, while the kids played on the beach or in the hotel plunge pools, and we watched some lovely sunsets.
If you want to get around the island then I would definitely recommend hiring a car. The owner provided me with some local car hire numbers and we were able to arrange hire for a reasonable rate. The only word of caution is that there are no dual carriageways - the roads are very windy, narrow in places, and there can be some quite large pot holes caused by the rains - so if you are of a nervous disposition, it would be better to rely on taxis.
Nevertheless, having a car meant we really could make the most of the island in terms of visiting waterfalls, climbing the volcano, Soufriere, visiting beaches, and just doing regular things like supermarket shopping. We also had relatives on the island, and the car allowed flexibility here too.
All in all, a great holiday, and Spanish Pointe villa was definitely ideal for the kind of holiday we had planned.
