Uzumlu Villa Rental Photos and Description

3 bed detached villa, sleeps 6, peaceful location, yet close to village centre

This lovely detached 3 bedroomed villa, 'Yesil Vadi', is located in the village of Uzumlu, Turkey. It has a private pool, beautiful garden and spectacular mountain views. Take a 5 minute stroll to the centre of the village, with its restaurants and shops. A 15-20 minute drive takes you to the sea, marina and lively market town of Fethiye, the beach of Calis with its sunsets, or beyond to the world famous beach of Oludeniz.. The spacious living area is open-plan with well-equipped kitchen, dining area and comfortable lounge. There is also a separate TV room and a shower room. A marble staircase leads to the first floor, which has 2 double bedrooms and 1 twin bedroom, all with air conditioning, a family bathroom and an en-suite bathroom. 2 Of the bedrooms open out onto a large balcony, with spectacular views. There are great views from all windows. Outside, relax on the shady covered terrace, with dining furniture, overlooking the garden and the valley. Plenty of room to soak up the sun by the private pool. End a relaxing day with a BBQ at sunset.

Uzumlu : Uzumlu village square is a five minute stroll away from the villa. There you will find restaurants, shops, bakery and an internet cafe - and people who are always friendly and helpful. This is also where you can get a dolmus (minibus) to Fethiye. Uzumlu market is on Fridays for local grown produce and various other interesting things. In Uzumlu, villagers still follow traditional ways and you can watch the local women weaving as you pass their houses. Children will love seeing goats and chickens as they wander around the village. Uzumlu means 'with grapes' and you can try the local wine. There are regular dolmus (minibuses) to Fethiye and from there to other places. If you require, we can arrange car hire or transfers to or from Dalaman airport.

The Turquoise Coast/Lycia area: There is a fish market at Fethiye, where you can choose your own fish, fresh from the sea, and the restaurant of your choice will cook it for you. There are numerous boat trips, including the 12 island trip, snorkelling and scuba diving. From Fethiye you can get a day trip to the Greek island of Rhodes. Fethiye has a great market on Tuesdays.

Calis beach is a lively resort with a long promenade lined with restaurants, shops and bars.

At Oludeniz you can watch the paragliders as they descend from Babadag mountain to land on the beach, or hire a paddle boat or canoe. From Oludeniz you can get a boat trip to Butterfly Valley.

There are other beaches near Fethiye to explore, such as Katranci or Gunluklu.

Other places to visit: Kayakoy is an ancient village, abandoned by its Greek inhabitants in 1912, known as a ghost town with 2,000 ruined stone houses. Horse riding is nearby. It is possible to hike to the ancient Roman city of Kadyanda from Uzumlu, which has been partially excavated to reveal Roman baths, tombs, a stadium, theatre and water cisterns. Hikers interested in the 2000 year old Lycian Way can pick up this route near Fethiye. Gocek (30 mins drive) is an upmarket marina town in beautiful surroundings. At Saklikent Gorge, you can walk on platforms above the river, or sit at a restaurant and dangle your feet into the cool water. At Dalyan you can take a boat trip through the reeds to the famous Iztuzu beach, where loggerhead turtles nest and if you're lucky a loggerhead turtle will come up to your boat..

I am a teacher and I live with my husband in London. We have two grown up children. We still, as a family, like to escape city life for the peace and quiet of Uzumlu.

Janet Hatherley purchased this villa in 2010

I spent a couple of years in Turkey teaching when I was young and over the last 30 years have always been drawn back. A few years ago, when looking on the Home and Away rental site, my daughter stumbled across the village of Uzumlu. To cut a long story short we all had our best holiday to date. We laughed it off when a waiter at a local restaurant said, “You’ll see, this time next year you’ll have your own house.” But it stuck in our minds and by the end of our two week holiday we’d discovered the perfect bit of land.

The only traffic past our villa is the occasional goat or sheep. It is the most peaceful spot, with the sound of birds. While lazing in the swimming pool you can see panoramic views of mountains and trees all around.

In my experience of staying in other places in rural areas, you often can’t walk to a good selection of shops and restaurants and are reliant on a car. On the five minute walk to the village, the friendly locals will always give you a smile.

But don’t get me wrong, if it’s adventure, bustling markets, boat trips, beautiful beaches or ancient ruins you’re after, you’re only a short drive or minibus ride away. Every member of the family will be kept happy.

We stayed at Yesil Vadi for two weeks in May and we had the most relaxing, peaceful holiday which was just what we were looking for. The villa is beautiful, so spacious, light and airy but very homely and immaculately kept, quality bedding and towels and all the equipment you could need in the kitchen, also more than enough crockery and cutlery is provided..
Our welcome pack consisted of water, milk, orange juice, bread, butter, jam, eggs, cheese, so all we needed for breakfast the next morning without rushing to the village.
Janet had provided some logs which we found very welcoming as the first few nights were quite chilly so the wood burner came in very handy!
The pool area is spacious with plenty of sun loungers and comfy cushions and chairs to relax on, the surrounding gardens were a delight to look at and walk around, lovely flowers and plants, and we were able to pick strawberries and mulberries too.
We spent a lot of time just sitting and looking at the mountains and scenery, never tiring of watching the wildlife, every morning and evening a lady would walk her herd of goats past the villa, she would always wave and say hello, we found the people of Uzumlu very welcoming and friendly, if you want a holiday where you can totally relax then Yesil Vadi and Uzumlu are perfect for you.
The village had enough shops that catered for our needs, and the village bakery is a must, never tasted bread like that for a long time. There are enough eating places should you want to eat out, we liked Selale and Grape Garden, both very different but equally good, also the pide/pizza place was very good value, average 6 or 7TL for a good size pizza.
Senay and Gursel who look after the villa are a lovely couple, always willing to help and nothing was a problem, it was good to know we had someone there who we could call on should we need help with anything, thank you so much.
We will be coming back next year and wouldn't hesitate in recommending
Yesil Vadi, thank you Janet and Malcolm for letting us share your home in Uzumlu.

We stopped at Yesil Vadi for 3 weeks at the end of July, 2 adults/2 children (age 10 & 8). The villa is superbly presented, inside and out, with everything you need to enjoy a relaxing holiday.

We bought and left a juicer as the local oranges produce the sweetest juice you can ask for, which is something the kids did on a frequent basis. All the utensils, including BBQ equipment, is available, not that you will be doing a lot of cooking as a meal in Uzumlu village is very cheap, around £30 for 4 including local wine and the obligatory Efes or two. We found the local pide place great value, £10 for 4, although Selale restaurant, just above the public toilets, was excellent with great value meals. The kids christened Selale "The Secret Garden" as it is a little gem of a place covered with greenery,a fountain, 2 small furry dogs (Carlos is the puppy) and a kitten.

The villa is a leisurely 10 minute walk into the village center and you go past houses with goats, sheep and donkeys living outside.

We spent many a day just lazing around the pool on the comfy loungers and you are not overlooked at all, which meant privacy for the kids jumping into the pool and the topless wife who wanted a nice tan.

A car is really required, although the local dolmus, will take you into Fethiye, which I highly recommend, especially at night time for some shopping and haggling. Patara beach is excellent, 45 mins away, but well worth the trip, as is Saklikent gorge.

If the kids had their way they would suggest WiFi, but as it is available in most of the restaurants in the village, its not a major drawback for me, and it means I'm not tempted to check my work emails.

In summary, if you are looking for a villa to relax and chill out with great restaurants close by, then I would have no hesitation in recommending Yesli Vadi.

Owner's Response: Haven't thought of making our own orange juice - thanks for the idea and the juicer! We have a lemon tree and an orange tree in the garden, both quite young trees at the moment but are beginning to produce some fruit. In season, the mulberry tree and strawberry plants provide a great addition to breakfasts. We love the fact that the pool isn't overlooked and that it is quite private. The restaurants are good value and I'd agree that Selale really is a 'secret garden' - a very special place.

The villa was in a beautiful location, near to the village of Uzumlu, where there were lovely restaurants, and places to buy essentials, even a shop which stocked British things, so it felt like home from home!
The villa itself was very clean and well maintained, the pool fantastic, plenty of sun beds etc. Having the air conditioning in the rooms made for a much more comfortable nights sleep, however, we all found the beds a little hard for our taste, but maybe this is just our personal preference. Being used to blackout curtains at home, the daylight coming in the bedroom windows in the morning was very bright.
The villa was well equipped, we had every utensil we needed in the kitchen, sofa's comfortable, and there was a TV with a few english speaking channels, however, we did not really watch any.
I would recommend a trip to Salikent, sitting in a restaurant with your feet dangling in the fast running water is a nice way to spend some of your day. Car hire a must, we were a little concerned what the driving was going to be like, but as long as you have your wits about you, then you will be fine! Watch out for the mopeds though, think we saw 5 people and a dog on one!

Owner's Response: We aim to provide everything needed at the villa for people’s comfort and convenience – what you would expect at home. The bed’s are probably down to personal preference and I would say they strike a good balance between soft and hard, being comfortably firm. Saklikent is a great place to go on a hot day – can’t be many restaurants where you can cool your feet in fast flowing, turquoise water! We find driving is OK in Turkey – in fact, the roads are often very quiet, particularly the road through the mountains to Uzumlu. It’s a wide road too, so no narrow, winding bends to contend with. It is surprising what you can sometimes see on a moped!

Best villa we've rented in Uzumlu
  • 5 of 5
Just back from our third holiday in Uzumlu (and many others in nearby areas in Turkey). This time we stayed for three weeks and Villa Yesil Vadi was definitely the nicest villa we have stayed in.

The villa is bright, airy and spacious with plenty of room for 6 adults not to get on top of each other. It is extremely well equipped with good quality furnishings - M&S china, big fluffy bath towels, new pool towels etc.

It was also spotlessly clean when we arrived - with a welcome pack of bread, butter, jam and water.

The bedrooms are air-conditioned which was much welcomed after a day of lazing by the pool - on comfortable sun-loungers with padded cushions.

The gardens are gorgeous - a beautiful large flower patch in front of the terrace, full of bright and cheery blooms. The terrace itself is a cool spot to enjoy BBQ dinners or just to watch the various wildlife at work - we saw a number of different birds, squirrels, cats, sheep, donkeys and goats.

Uzumlu itself is a lovely, slow-paced Turkish village, with a traditional square, couple of cafes and restaurants, mini-supermarkets, bakery, shops selling local crafts and a mosque. It is only a 10 minute leisurely walk from the villa to the square.

Would recommend Lup Lups cafe for breakfast or tea and cakes (she made us delicious take-away sandwiches for our return flight too). Also Selale restaurant (above the public toilets but don't be put off). Delicious fresh food served by a really friendly Turkish family (with pet puppy and kitten). They also deliver pies by motor-bike to the villa - mince-meat, potato, cheese or apple. Delicious and very reasonably priced. We bought them most days!

The bakery in the village is also excellent for fresh, crusty bread baked on the premises - they will slice it for you too. The girl who serves is very friendly and appreciated our attempts to speak in Turkish.

If you are looking for a villa in Uzumlu, then we would definitely recommend booking this one.

Owner's Response: So glad you liked our villa. You’ve described the pace of life around the villa and village perfectly! Selale is our favourite restaurant too and we love the morning delivery of borek. Miss that, when we’re back home, especially the apple one. Haven’t tried Lup Lups because that is a new café that only opened this year. Will definitely try it out! We love the fact that Uzumulu is a lovely traditional village but there’s always something new opening up.

We had a great holiday at Villa Yesil Vadi. The villa was spacious, comfortable and very clean. It was well equipped and had everything you could need on your holiday.

Uzumlu is a nice quiet town with a variety of good and reasonably priced restuarants and shops to buy basic provisions. The locals are very friendly and helpful.

We went into Fethiye a couple of times on the dolmus but they did get busy and would recommend a car if you want to go further afield. The market in Fethiye is well worth a visit (beware it does get very hot in the market!!)

Janet the villa owner was very helpful with information before our holiday.

Our 10 days at this lovely Uzumlu village in August were amazing; we chose well: it turned out to be a perfect base from which to explore this fabulous part of Europe:

First, location was great. Uzumlu is just over an hour from Dalaman airport and about 20 minutes from Fethiye, the main town and port. And well within an hour’s drive of great places to visit: Saklikent’s fantastic gorge and white water rafting, lovely beaches (Gemila was our favourite) and archaeological sites to see. Dalkan was definitely worth a trip too.

Second, the village. Small enough to still be a traditional village with people working hard to make a living. You could cross the village in 15 minutes. But the village was big enough to have provision shops for your stay (we found the Fethiye supermarkets weren’t much better stocked), half a dozen great restaurants – make sure you try the tiny cafe next to the market (and only open on market day)....the Turkish pancakes there were a marvel! There are also nice walks from the village. This village is for you if you either want to get away from it all for a while or if you like doing day trips then having a rest in between.

Thirdly, the Villa itself...just 5 minutes walk from the village centre but on the edge of the village in a completely quiet spot over-looking beautiful mountains. We spent hours around the pool and garden which were much bigger than we had expected (the pool is a ‘proper’ villa pool - we’ve been disappointed before with glorified plunge pools!) and there is a large garden area with gorgeous flowers and shrubs all immaculately kept. There’s also a nice large BBQ area (fully stocked and ready to go) which we used a lot. And the villa itself? What can I say! It was large and airy, plenty of space and rooms. Well stocked with everything you might use. Janet has clearly thought of everything. I understand this is Janet’s holiday home too and that her family use it a lot which explains why everything is done to a high standard. Just look at the photos and then add some!

And all that for a fraction of what you would pay elsewhere in Europe. I’ll be honest - when we booked we did wonder what the catch was with the price being so reasonable. But it turns out that this part of Turkey is cheap and that’s the going rate. And like anywhere, there are good places to stay and not so good. This villa in Uzumlu is definitely one of the best places to stay you will find. We will definitely be going back!

Uzumlu is a pretty, unspoilt village with cobbled streets, Ottoman stone cottages and a lovely main square with a weekly market. Yesil Vadi (Green Valley) Villa is in a peaceful setting yet only a short stroll from the main square with its shops and restaurants. The valley is known for its mushrooms, cherry trees, pine trees and grapevines (uzum means grape, uzumlu, place of the grape). Uzumlu Mushroom Festival in April celebrates the local morel mushroom, with lots to eat, music and folk dancing. The mountains and foothills around the village are great for walking, with ancient Lycian and Roman remains at Cadianda. The village is only 15 - 20 minutes from the beach at Calis and the lively town of Fethiye. Oludeniz, which has been called the most beautiful beach in the Mediterranean, is 35 minutes away. The start of the 2000 year old, 509 km Lycian Way is close to Fethiye. Louis de Berniers was inspired by the abandoned Greek village near Fethiye to write 'Birds without Wings'. Daniel Craig emerged from the water at Calis beach in summer 2012, for the latest James Bond film. There are many organised outdoor activities such as paragliding and rafting and the famous Saklikent Gorge is close by. Uzumlu is less than an hour from Dalaman airport. Airport transfers and car hire can be arranged.
