While having the pleasure of a stay at Rocky Top I enjoyed rocking on the porch and relaxing to the sound of the nearby stream and the songs of the birds. Being a birdwatcher, I enjoyed being surrounded by Juncos, Crested Tits, and Hummingbirds. I can't wait to return to this cool paradise.
I spent summers here enjoying a respite from the heat of lowcountry Charleton . My family and I have enjoyed all the area has to offer--hiking the Appalacian trail, an 80 ft waterfall with pool at bottom for swimming, a 10 mile rafting trip on river with 3 and 4 rapids, fly fishing in nearby rivers and streams, music and art and a theater for great productions at Lees Mcrea College, a library, museum and outdoor park with river walk, a Y, not to mention great restaurants that prepare food using fresh produce and fish. This is a community that was established in the 1700's with many generations of very friendly and kind people.
This cabin was purchased by my parents, and deciding to keep it, made me change the floorplan a bit, granite counter tops and new custom cabinets, all new stainless steel appliances, bath fixtures, hardwood floors throughout, beautiful paneling with a fireplace made from Grandfather Mt stone for the new buck wood stove. Basically rebuilt in 2010
Total privacy in a safe neighbor with all the conveniences in the town and county seat of Newland 2 miles away.
