Guestbook comments from the owner
While having the pleasure of a stay at Rocky Top I enjoyed rocking on the porch and relaxing to the sound of the nearby stream and the songs of the birds. Being a birdwatcher, I enjoyed being surrounded by Juncos, Crested Tits, and Hummingbirds. I can't wait to return to this cool paradise.

I spent summers here enjoying a respite from the heat of lowcountry Charleton without air conditioning. My family and I have enjoyed all the area has to offer--hiking the Appalacian trail, an 80 ft waterfall with pool at bottom for swimming, a 10 mile rafting trip on river with 3 and 4 rapids, fly fishing in nearby rivers and streams, music and art and a theater for great productions at Lees Mcrea College, a library, museum and outdoor park with river walk, a Y, not to mention great restaurants that prepare food using fresh produce and fish. This is a community that was established in the 1700's with many generations of very friendly and kind people.

Elizabeth Lacey purchased this cabin in 2000

This cabin was purchased by my parents, and deciding to keep it, made me change the floorplan a bit, granite counter tops and new custom cabinets, all new stainless steel appliances, bath fixtures, hardwood floors throughout, beautiful paneling with a fireplace made from Grandfather Mt stone for the new buck wood stove.

Total privacy in a safe neighbor with all the conveniences in the town and county seat of Newland 2 miles away.

WINTER WONDERLAND

  • 4 of 5
I have been visiting this area of NC since I was a teen and have never had a better time! Our goal was to show our children snow, boy did wen pick the right weekend! The cabin was well appointed and very comfortable. Despite it being freezing outside the Buck Stove kept us plenty warm. The outdoor porches we're lovely but it was the steep driveway that kept my family entertained with days on end of sledding! Beth was delightful to work with and I look forward to enjoying the cabin again someday soon.

A QUIET REFUGE

  • 5 of 5
We rented this house while attending a family wedding in the community. It is a compact, well planned house with up-to-date amenities. The indoor space is attractive, with comfortable beds and a fabulous kitchen. The outdoor porches are the stars, and I enjoyed my morning coffee outside every day. The owner, Beth, is charming and works hard to present a comfortable and enjoyable atmosphere.

BLUEBAMBOO

I had the opportunity to enjoy this cabin with friends just this past weekend. I was drawn in instantly by the charm of the exterior. As I stepped in the door I was drawn back into the kitchen which is absolutely lovely. It is so warm and inviting and had everything my friends and I needed. Our group had fantastic meals that we prepared and shared in the kitchen and it was just so pretty being there and passing time. We actually had rain and cold the entire weekend but I didn't care. I had no desire really to venture out of that cozy cabin but my only regret was that we didn't get to enjoy the three sided deck and porches. I would have loved sitting out there in the evening and am hoping very much to go back another time. We were lacking nothing. I loved it there. To tell you the truth, I could see myself living there. I loved everything about it.

ABSOLUTE PEACE AND TRANQUILITY AS STATED!!!!!

  • 5 of 5
The retreat is just stunning! Our trip was on a 100% rain the entire stay but the sound of the rain and the water from the spring was amazing, we spent time just relaxing, cooking, drinking and enjoying the place. Clean as a pin, wonderful décor, all just perfect! I would love to go back, perhaps a time when the sun shines, I can't imagine as it was beautiful in the rain! Local restaurants were good, we did a drive to Spruce Pines and panned for gemstones, lots of fun even in the rain! I guess I love rain! :-) I would say stay here to anyone considering a retreat! Perfect!
