A great location to relax and getaway, or as a home base for your Bay Area Adventure. Enjoy watching the birds in the marshes of the Petaluma River. Just 1/10 mile down the road is a boat launch for kayakers, boaters and fisherman. A short drive to Sonoma and Napa for winery visits. Novato has a fabulous downtown with quaint shops and excellent restaurants. Sonoma Raceway is only 6 miles down the road for any race fans. San Francisco and Oakland are less than an hour away.
The Boathouse has a fully equipped kitchen, large bathroom with shower, and a living room/bedroom with a pull-out couch, a pillow-top queen bed, a LED flat screen TV and wifi internet.
Just outside the cottage is a private deck bordering the marsh with dining seating for 6.
The Boathouse is located at the bottom of approximately 2 1/2 flights of stairs. Access is by foot only.
Although we have lived here for over 3 years, coming home still feels like being on vacation! We look forward to sharing our cottage with you.
Randi Bakken purchased this cottage in 2011
After living in suburban neighborhoods our whole lives, we never realized how amazing an undisturbed view into nature really is. One look out the window had us convinced we couldn't be anywhere else!
The Boathouse has a definite away-from-it-all, country feel - but is still just a few minutes from downtown Novato, Safeway, Target, and Costco.
My husband and I rented the Boathouse for 10 days. We were looking for a place near our son and his family that provided us a place to relax and rest at the end of busy days. This was the perfect rental. It was scenic with a wonderful view of the river and beautiful sunrises (from inside and outside which had a spacious deck). It was well provisioned (loved the labels on the cabinets), wonderfully decorated and comfortable. There is easy access to the 101 or 37 yet it felt like you were miles away from the bustle of the city. Randi and Jim are the perfect hosts, welcoming and responsive the few requests we had. We will be back.
My husband and I rented the Boathouse for a few days to relax and visit the Charles M Schultz Museum and a friend in Oakland. The Boathouse's location was a central area. I definitely want to go back. The whole setting was restful and peaceful. It is located away from the main part of the city which is a short turn. It is like you make a turn from the highway or city and suddenly you are in a completely different location and you for get that you were in a city. Although the BH can sleep 3-4, it is best for a couple. For indoor seating in front of the television, there is really only comfortable seating for two and a child. (A couple with one child would also be comfortable). The sleeper sofa pullout was surprisingly comfortable. The layout is a bathroom on one end with a door. Followed by a bed and sofa and into the kitchen. The best part for me was waking up early and sitting in the kitchen with my coffee looking out the window as sun light would begin to illuminate the water. Just thinking about it now relaxes me. It rained while we were there, but it has a beautiful spacious deck and seating. I really liked the electric heater with the "firewood" view. I have allergies and this kept us very comfortable with allergy difficulties. Whoever stays, MUST be able to climb a long set of steep stairs and carry whatever they brought. We had a couple of minor problems that were promptly addressed. I also left some suggestions which Randi seemed to appreciate and implemented while we were home. This is definitely will be another romantic get away for us.
My wife and I spent 10 lovely days at the Boathouse. The setting is restful, and it was very convienient to the places we wanted to go. It is very well appointed, the comfort added quite a bit to our experience because we were quite busy with family activities. It will be our destination for many future visits. Randi and Jim were completely welcoming and gracious.
My teenage son and I stayed at the cottage for a week in August. This a very convenient location if you want to explore Marin county, Napa and Sonoma Valleys, Point Reyes and occasional trip to SF. The Larkspur ferry is an easy way to get to SF if you don't need a car to explore the city. If you do plan to drive to SF often, a closer location or staying in SF will be more convenient. The cottage is great for a couple or a small family. Both the main bed and the sleeper couch are comfortable. The kitchen is very well equipt and has plenty of space for dining. Nice view over the marsh towards the river. The owners are very friendly and helpful but give plenty of privacy. The cottage is very clean. As somebody already has mentioned, the stairs might be a challenge for people with limited mobility or elderly. Several supermarkets within a couple of miles from the cottage and plenty of restaurants. We'll be back!
We spent a lovely week at this super clean, comforting cottage while our daughter competed in a horse show nearby. It was everything we needed -- and more! The large bed was very comfortable for my 6'2" husband and me, and the sofa bed worked great for my teen-aged daughter. The kitchen was fully stocked with a lovely view of the Petaluma River and hills beyond. We spent every evening on the big front deck with a glass of wine while we barbecued dinner on the nice propane grill. The sunrises through the kitchen window were also spectacular while we enjoyed early morning coffee.
The location is very convenient for the Napa/Sonoma wine country, San Francisco, West Marin, and the East Bay. Downtown Novato and Petaluma, with their many restaurants, are a short drive, as are multiple hiking trails.
Finally, our hosts, Randi and Jim, were just wonderful ... friendly and helpful when we needed suggestions for hiking trails and forgot our key one day, but never intrusive. We look forward to returning soon and would never again opt for a hotel over this great get-away place!
This is a fabulous choice if, like me, you dislike the congestion and prices of the city. This rental is a very comfortable bungalow with a full kitchen and a large private deck. The deck is equipped with propane BBQ, lounge chairs, and table. My wife, and daughter and I spent several afternoons just playing board games, and enjoying the view at the table outside.
It is located right on the edge of a marsh area with a view of the waterway. The area is full of birds particularly swallows. So, if you are anything of a birder; bring your binoculars and camera.
Importantly, we found the property to be very clean. The bed is extremely comfortable and the shower has all the hot water you will need.
We found the owners to be courteous and helpful. For the price, I don't think this quaint accommodation can be beat. For full disclosure, there is a set of steps that could be a challenge for someone that would have a problem climbing a couple flights of stairs. And, it is a quarter mile from a bridge that has some traffic noise. But, it is far quieter than being almost anywhere in the city.
Halfway between San Francisco and wine country - it's the ideal location for a getaway! Take the ferry from Larkspur to San Francisco. Napa is 24 miles and Sonoma 16 miles. Sonoma Raceway is just 6 miles down the road. Excellent kayaking and boting with the launch 1/4 mile down the road. Easy access to Point Reyes.
