About Rey and Jan Laferriere

We are from Canada, and have been visiting Costa Rica numerous times over several years. Like many, we fell in love it all! Our first vacation outside of a resort, was in Costa Rica, and such a wonderful experience.

We were made to feel safe and comfortable. Flying in after dark, we were picked up at the airport and driven to our vacation home, groceries were in the fridge for the morning, we had help renting a vehicle for the first time, and we felt safe driving and exploring and shopping.

We want to share this same experience for others. Our property manager Cristian, will look after all of your needs, whether you need a pickup at the airport, car rentals or arranging some amazing tours. If you do not wish to drive Cristian can also provide a local personal driver to take you where ever you wish to go.(Fee's Extra)We work hard to ensure our guests are well taken care of and have a very comfortable and memorable stay in our home.

Rey and Jan Laferriere purchased this house in 2013

Why Rey and Jan Laferriere chose Jaco

We love the central Pacific area! We chose to build our home here on the edge of the jungle to enjoy the macaws and toucans spotted from our yard. Nestled in the mountain, we enjoy quiet privacy away from the beach hustle and bustle.

Yet when we feel like being adventurous we can take a 5 minute drive for groceries, dining at the many ocean restaurants, golf, zip-lining, surfing, or strolls along the beach.

We are located in Phase 2 of Los Tucanes development.

What makes this house unique

Our property is facing the jungle mountain view in the back from the over-sized covered patio. The home is brand new, just finished being built in 2013, with all new appliances, furnishings and landscaping.

Jungle Paradise!

  • 4 of 5

The home is quite nice, with a remote, jungle feeling while being very close to beaches and other activities. After a week of beach living and activities in the Guanacaste area, it was a pleasure to relax on the back patio and enjoy the birds and other wildlife. A pair of Toucan's were nesting in a tree in the back yard, and every morning and evening a pair of Scarlet Macaws would fly to and from the jungle behind the house. Oodles of birds, lizards (iquanas), butterflies to photograph without leaving the house! The perfect way to end a rather busy 2 weeks in Costa Rica! Cristian and Karen were very helpful, although we were pretty happy to stay put for a few days! Thanks Rey and Jan for sharing your wonderful home.

Great Vacation!!

  • 5 of 5

We had a very enjoyable time at this rental house. Jan and Rey were very informative with pre-trip info and plans.

Cristian, the property manager, was very helpful and accommodating with various inquiries. He arranged for someone to transport us from airport, to the house, then to get groceries as we didn't have the car yet.He immediately sent someone to fix the air conditioner when we informed him it wasn't working. He made arrangements for...

*deep sea fishing with Wahoo Sportfishing. Michael was the captain. They caught 6 sailfish 6-8 ft long!!!;

*Tico tour with Gino...touring on water and land, snorkeling and fishing, shore lunch. When we were finished the tour and back to Tarcoles Gino helped us buy fresh shrimp....another great day.

*Cristian also made initial contact for a scuba and snorkeling day with Herradura Divers who took us to Tortuga Is. The tour was very good and we were well taken care of.

The yard at the house is teaming with wildlife. The sounds are so relaxing. We saw various kinds of birds including a family of Toucans that had nested in a tree at the back (that was my highlight), iguanas, chameleons, geckos, various kinds of butterflies including the blue morpho. The cicadas and morning doves are often heard. The vegetation is so colorful and beautiful. If you want times of tranquility this is the place to be. We really appreciated the cell phone provided for local calls and the bar-b-q. Being able to do laundry was also an added bonus.

We rented a car so it was only 5 min. to Herradura beach where we saw the red macaws. There are restaurants along there, as well you can park the car along the road, under the trees so you are right on the beach.

Getting groceries was no problem...a number of choices. Super L'Amistad is not far away: Auto Mercado is larger, but maybe more expensive. We found a place where we loved to buy fruits and vegetables and some meats on the way from the house to the main intersection with lights. Fresh every 2nd day.

Restaurants we enjoyed: Cardumen (seafood in Herradura); Bienvenidos Las Perla (in Jaco) El Avion (in Quepos...after visiting Manuel Antonio Park)

Jaco is only a 5 min. drive if you want more hustle and bustle....also another nice beach.

Playa Hermosa has big waves for the surfing enthusiasts. We watched from a lookout along the road.

We would not hesitate to come back here again and highly recommend this accommodation.

Great vacation !

  • 5 of 5

The house is spacious, comfortable and very clean. We felt we were in the jungle and still so close to everything! Manager is very helpful. Within short driving distance from beaches, grocery, restaurants, bank... Within very reasonable driving distance from national parks, volcanos and many other attractions. Great place to spend a relaxing vacation with friends or family!

First timer to CR

  • 4 of 5

This place was a great choice for our first time to Costa Rica. The neighbor was friendly (Gino) and gave us a wealth of information about the area from where to shop and what to look out for plus just general information about the area itself. The house is only located a couple minutes away from the best shopping center in the area in herradura. We didn't see any other place match the same shops and grocery store anywhere in jaco. While we were there we did the zip lining (which is only a couple minutes away from the house) and fishing with a guy named Gino that was recommended by the property manager. The fishing trip was unique and well guided by Gino and is hand. We stopped off for lunch on a private beach(complete with waterfall) and they cooked our catch for us. The house itself is set up great. 2 good size bedrooms with queen beds and 2 full bathrooms which worked out great for me and my friend. The only thing that would be nice is a microwave. Other than that small detail everything was perfect.

Family on vacation

  • 5 of 5

We had an awesome vacation here! The house was a great choice; off the beaten path, but literally just minutes from beach, grocery shopping, adventure, & main highway! Renting a car is a must if you wish to get out and see the sights. The listing & photos accurately reflect what you get. The property is tucked right next to mountains so you feel next to the jungle without being there, yet you're only 5 minutes from the beach. We went zip lining (3 minutes up the road), on nature walks, shopping in Jaco (about 5 minutes away), Fishing trip with Tico Tours, and spent a day at Manuel Antonio National Park (approx 70 km away). The best was Gino's Tico Style Tour. A must do! Loved the ease of getting groceries and getting around. The house is beautiful with all the stone and the neighbours are friendly and helpful. Rey & Jan were very helpful in organizing our trip, and providing information. The local property manager also checked in on us throughout the week. It was easy to get around and do whatever you desire. I highly recommended this place if you're looking for a combination of relaxation and adventure combined into one vacation. :)

Our Week in Costa Rica

  • 5 of 5

This was one of our best vacations. Renting a car is a must. We loved not being in the thick of Herradura. The listing accurately reflects what you get. The property is tucked right next to mountains so you feel next to the jungle without being there. Ray is a fantastic owner who did everything he could to help us. We went on ATV tour, zip lining, waterfall climbing, nature walks, shopping in Jaco, crocodile tour and visited Manuel Antonio National Park. The best was Gino's Tico Style Tour. A must do. Loved the ease of getting groceries and getting around. The house is beautiful with all the stone and the neighbors are friendly. Several are expat Canadians. The nearby town of Tarcoles has the croc tours and a wonderful place to eat, Chepe's. I have recommended this place to friends and we plan on going back again in the future.
