Sitting at the base of gorgeous red sandstone cliffs and nestled within junipers, this little house is the perfect place for escape and relaxation. The location allows hiking right out the back door, as well as easy access to some of the southwest's most spectacular hiking and scenery.
Our house is furnished and stocked as if it were our own full-time residence, and therefore should provide you with a carefree vacation from the moment you arrive. All you will need to provide are groceries for your favorite meals.
Welcome to our slice of paradise. We currently live in the Pacific Northwest, with our cat Scout. We feel blessed to have such a special place, and we are pleased to be able to share its magic with you.
We have backpacked and hiked throughout the southwest, and love this location for its rich scenary, numerous recreational opportunities and abundant sunshine. The simplicity of this house allows it to fit within the landscape without competing with it. We return from visits to this house renewed and touched by this beautiful country and wish that for each of you as well.
The property is close enough to Kanab to allow easy dining and shopping, but far enough outside the city to provide privacy and quiet. You very well may find yourself torn between the desire to relax in the chairs outside enjoying the peaceful setting, the draw of nearby spectacular national and state parks, or a visit with the wonderful people and furry beneficiaries at Best Friends Animal Society.
What a lovely setting!! Very homey with all amenities needed! Fireplace with the view of the mountain out the widow was so peaceful! Large beautiful yard - the dogs had a ball! We drove in all directions, there was so much to explore in the area! Pink Coral Sand Dunes, snow near Jacob Lake Campground, Lake Powell, Horseshoe Bend, the Toadstools!! We will hopefully have the opportunity to return soon. Kanab itself had many pet friendly food establishments with outside seating. Latte's and Fresh baked bagels at Jakey Leigh's! Mmmm. Perfect for our little family!
The dogs and got to spend another 3+ weeks at Leslee and Dave's retreat. We just love it there. Leslee was a pleasure to work with through the whole process. The house is perfectly set up for me with my dogs. The dogs love the yard. It's big with lots of things to sniff! The house was great, again, too.
Kanab and Red Cliff Retreat are in such a great location. Of course, I volunteered at Best Friends. I truely enjoy the time I get to spend there. This year I did mostly dogs, but also horses and bunnies, again. I also took several side trips in the area. It's so nice to have a central location for Zion, Bryce and the Grand Canyon, plus all the other State Parks and BLM lands.
I love that you've installed he Verizon booster. It makes a huge difference. I was able to call my Dad on his birthday this year (last year he could only hear 1-2 words). It took me a couple of calls to realize that the extra tone I was hearing was probably the booster.
I am patiently waiting for the Houston Broadway series to announce the schedule for the 2015-2016 season, so I can pick my time to book for next year. I can't wait to go back again! Thank you so, so much for sharing your home with me and the dogs. We really enjoy staying there.
We just returned from a spectacular Thanksgiving week in and around Kanab. This was the perfect getaway for our family. The house was cosy and warm - fireplace and solar heat sources kept us toasty (even turning the fireplace off at night) - the solar collector on the south exterior wall even keeps the bathroom internal wall super warm - natural radiant heat when you step out of the shower - fabulous! We spent an entire day exploring and hiking the red cliffs behind the house - what an amazing place. Our 13 and 9 year old kids enjoyed the adventure. Lots to do nearby - Bryce Canyon with a skiver of snow, Zion canyon - even hiked the narrows (I highly recommend this), and even Grand Canyon North Rim (we were there 3 days before it closed for the winter and only shared the park with about 15 other guests - serene, beautiful, expansive! Our only regret is having to return home and back to the "real world". The owners are incredibly responsive - replying quickly to our inquiries about anything from television access (what can I say - I have a 13 year old son who loves football) to questions about the area. If (when) we return to the area we won't even look for other accommodation options - this is the place to be!
Beautiful, cozy, and warm home. The view is outstanding! The location is wonderful for travel to any park in the area. We enjoyed sitting on the back patio watching falling stars. If we had not had plans, the house and location alone would have kept us entertained. Leslee is very kind and easy to work with. Thank you!
We stayed here in late September for three days to meet up with friends who had a room at the Best Western in Kanab to tour Zion and Bryce Canyon together. Our friends were envious of our serene, clean and peaceful place and said it was LESS expensive than the hotel room they had. They have declared their intention to rent the house on their next visit to the area! The other reviews here that cover the ambience of the home and the beauty of the area are spot on. The thing I enjoyed most was that the house sits at the back of a small enclave and has privacy and quiet to spare while being an easy drive into Kanab, a town we loved. The owner, Leslee, is easy to work with and knowledgeable about the area. You won't be disappointed if you book this home.
We are a little late (its long past Feb 2014) but we just rented this house again for the second time (for 2015) so thought we'd best get our review in! We are coming back and we can't wait!! We called this house our "Zen" house whenever we spoke about it to family and friends. The fresh colors, the simplicity, the design...all of it spoke to us telling us to clear the clutter from hearts, minds, and life. We enjoyed a month of hiking right out the back door and on the close BLM lands, plus visiting Bryce, Zion, Coral Sands, Powell, etc. The area was spectacular in every direction. We appreciated the Best Friends discount and each of us volunteered there which was highly rewarding. We loved playing racketball in Kanab every day at a fairly quaint fitness center. It was charming! We met wonderful people who are into dinosaurs, the environment, animal rescue, etc. Perhaps most of all we appreciated the fact that the furrier members of our family were welcomed - doggie door and huge fenced yard included. We were both also teaching on-line college classes and had absolutely no problems with the internet or phone service; we were able to do our jobs, sip coffee, pet our dogs and look out at the gorgeous scenery all at the same time. Loved the real feeling of privacy of this house. And the STARS! Obviously we loved the place because here we go again -- heading back!!
Kanab is central to major outdoor attractions such as Bryce Canyon and Zion national parks, Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument, North Rim of the Grand Canyon, Paria Canyon, and Lake Powell. Plus, you will have red-rock hiking right out the back door!
