About Aki and Laura Lintunen

We fell in love with the Big Island in 2000 and built Hale E Komo Mai in 2011. Now we are building new memories with our family, friends, and especially our grandchildren. We look forward to coming back to Hawaii each year while continuing to explore this vast and beautifully diverse island.

Aki and Laura Lintunen purchased this estate in 2011

Why Aki and Laura Lintunen chose Keaau

We are excited to share our 'impractical dream' with you, with a relaxing home to return to after a full day of activities and exploring. You will be surrounded by lush, tropical vegetation and a peaceful neighborhood. We looked at many areas on the Big Island and chose Hawaiian Paradise Park for its acreage that provides quiet and privacy, while still being central to the ocean, trails, parks, restaurants and nearby shopping.

What makes this estate unique

A unique and modern home designed with covered walkways that connect all three buildings. Impressive lava rock columns, circular planter with seating, and an outstanding outdoor shower were all hand shaped by a local craftsman. The home maximizes light and captures the trade winds and breezes, with sweet scents drifting indoors from the professionally landscaped gardens. The home is large, yet very comfortable for a couple or a large family. The grassed yard is great for the kids to play, to have a game of bocci ball or croquet, or to just relax on the lounge chairs while enjoying all the tropical trees, fruit trees and scented plants and flowers.

Wonderful Home and Grounds

  • 5 of 5

We were on the Hilo side for two nights, with family. It was a beautiful and spacious home, great for our two granddaughters to run and play in the expansive back yard. And a relaxing and quiet neighborhood, listening to the birds and light rainfall each night.

Beautiful House

  • 5 of 5

Aloha, My family of 8 adults stayed in this beautiful home for 2 weeks. Jan 14-28, 2015. The pictures don't do it

justice. The house is very large and the guest house is roomy and comfy. We were so comfortable here, we didn't want to leave! The furnishings were beautiful and comfortable. The kitchen very big and well equipped. Bathrooms and showers are large. The patio area and backyard are amazing. Beautiful trees and landscaping. Colorful birds flying around. Very peaceful and relaxing. Far enough from town for quiet, close enough for sightseeing. "Skip" the caretaker was a very nice man who didn't mind answering all our questions as to where to go and how to get there. Anytime we called him, he was right there to help. Aki & Laura, thank you so much for sharing your beautiful house with us. I also need to add that the Hawaiian people are the nicest people we have ever met. Mahalo & Aloha, Debi

Amazing place with calming energy

  • 5 of 5

Aloha Aki & Laura and not to forget the so efficient Skip who welcomed us with bowls full of fresh fruit like papaya and starfruit etc and a bag of fresh coffee so we would have something to settle in. We loved every minute on The Big Island. The volcanoes are magnificent and the people so friendly and helpful. We were having a family holiday with our grown up children, 22 plus boyfriend,20 and 16 and we rented the house and the Ohana. The house is so beautiful, spacious and so tasteful furnished that we felt very spoilt. After a week on Honolulu this beautiful home gave us the peace we missed on the very busy Waikiki. Everything was available in this home and all the sightseeings were in easy reachable distance. We can highly recommend this beautiful house to anyone who would like to have holidays on The Big Island. We loved every on it, house, the sightseeings, the people, the hosts, a full success, Thank you again Aki and Laura and Skip we felt so honoured to be able to stay at your beautiful place, Mahalo Jeanette, Roland and children :)

BEAUTIFUL HOME

  • 4 of 5

Aloha, The home is beautiful. We enjoyed our quite stay. Just a few things that would have made the stay more enjoyable would have been a TV in the master, and the refrigerator in the kitchen did not work, and Also the one in the patio area did not keep things that cold. That would be my only complaint. Thanks again!

Owner's Response: We are so appreciative that you took time to provide constructive feedback about your stay at Hale e Komo Mai. Living Hawaii, we learn from each experience, such as how humidity can be very hard on appliances, even an almost new high-end fridge which died suddenly; a brand new replacement fridge is now installed! By providing extra ice and a full size, new fridge in the interim, our primary aim was to minimize any inconvenience to our guests. Mahalo and aloha.

Relaxing and Beautiful....Home Away from Home

  • 5 of 5

I just came back from my 3rd visit to Hawaii, first visit to Hilo and the Big Island. Myself, my husband, our 3 children (ages 13, 3 & 1), as well as my mother and grandmother stayed for 1 week from July 22nd - July 29th and we had a wonderful vacation. If you are coming to the island, expecting the hustle and bustle of Honolulu, then you have come to the wrong place. But, if you are seeking rest, relaxation and a real home away from your home, this is the place for you. We rented the house and the Ohana. My mother and my 13 year old daughter stayed in the Ohana. Myself and my husband took the master. My grandmother had her own room, and my 2 little ones shared a room. There was plenty of space for everyone to retreat to their own areas, when they were ready, yet there was so much space for us to come together as a family.

Each morning, we would drink coffee out on the lanai and look at the beautiful trees out back. Walk all the way out in the yard, and you will find orange trees and lime trees. Keep on looking and you will find avocado and starfruit. It was fun to walk around the property looking at all of the tropical fruits and vegetation. I got took some really beautiful photos out there too! We cooked something in the amazing kitchen almost every day. Make sure to open all of the drawers in the kitchen before heading to the store. You will find all the cooking and baking supplies you will ever need, appliances plus more. Open the drawer in the family room area, and you will find decks of cards and family board games. Go back in the laundry room and turn around- you will find a cooler, beach bags & towels, boogie boards and swim equipment. That laundry room even had laundry detergent, Oxiclean and some Resolve stain remover. I was really pleased with the quality of the sheets, and surprised at how cool and comfortable the house was, despite the fact that there is no air conditioning. All of the finishes were high end, from the main sink and garden sinks in the kitchen, the pull out drawers in the kitchen, the master bathroom's en suite who's shower could hold at least six people, and the fact that the Master took up the entire right "wing" of the home.

As you can see, our family had a phenomenal time. We travel a lot. We have stay in a variety of places across the world from Atlanta, Georgia to Stuttgart, Germany, from the Marriot to the Ritz, none will compare the home away from home that we found in the little city of Hilo:-)
