We fell in love with the Big Island in 2000 and built Hale E Komo Mai in 2011. Now we are building new memories with our family, friends, and especially our grandchildren. We look forward to coming back to Hawaii each year while continuing to explore this vast and beautifully diverse island.

Aki and Laura Lintunen purchased this estate in 2011

We are excited to share our 'impractical dream' with you, with a relaxing home to return to after a full day of activities and exploring. You will be surrounded by lush, tropical vegetation and a peaceful neighborhood. We looked at many areas on the Big Island and chose Hawaiian Paradise Park for its acreage that provides quiet and privacy, while still being central to the ocean, trails, parks, restaurants and nearby shopping.

A unique and modern home designed with covered walkways that connect all three buildings. Impressive lava rock columns, circular planter with seating, and an outstanding outdoor shower were all hand shaped by a local craftsman. The home maximizes light and captures the trade winds and breezes, with sweet scents drifting indoors from the professionally landscaped gardens. The home is large, yet very comfortable for a couple or a large family. The grassed yard is great for the kids to play, to have a game of bocci ball or croquet, or to just relax on the lounge chairs while enjoying all the tropical trees, fruit trees and scented plants and flowers.

We stayed three nights. Beautiful home in a quiet area. I'd definitely recommend it. The yard was spacious with a variety of fruit trees lining the back property line.

We stayed in the Ohana rental for 4 nights and it was PERFECT for our needs! The pictures and description are very accurate. The property is clean and well maintained. The property Manager was very welcoming and definitely exudes the Aloha spirit. We were welcomed by a personalized letter with some fresh amenities for the next morning's breakfast. The owners were very responsive to my questions via email. We ABSOLUTELY loved our stay here, and DEFINITELTY recommend this home. We are planning another trip for next summer with our children, and we will definitely use this location again!

A Tropical Wonder Home in Big Island

We were very pleasantly surprised when we stepped into this wonderful home even though much has been said on the website and reviews by others. Plenty of space for our group of eight, very high quality amenities, bright and warm decors, plus a very thoughtful note from the manager, and a few Hawaiian breakfast items to get the next day started right away if you don't have a chance to do grocery shopping. The owners are very helpful as well in answering questions before our arrival and arranging the bedroom setups. The location is easily reachable to nearby attractions and sits in a very nice and quiet neighborhood. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend it strongly.

This beautiful home is a little out of the main attractions but it is a wonderful oasis alter a day of activités. you will envoy sleeping with the sounds of whistleling frogs and waking up to the singing of the birds. Everything is well kept and a very nice man named Skip makes sure that all is fine. It is a great place to relax. The only thing that we regret about this place is that we only stayed there two nights. if we come back in hawai we will surely stay longer! with no doubts we recommand this little paradise.

Stop Looking! Luxury home in amazing location--The BEST of the Big Island

  • 5 of 5

My spouse and I have come to the Big Island over the last 13 years. We have stayed for long periods of time (up to 7 months) and we have finally found the place we want to come back to again and again.

Aki and Laura's home is just that--a home (and a luxury one to boot). Like most people I combed through VRBO adds for many months trying to find the perfect place. This trip was 5 weeks and there were a number of things I wanted in a rental. This house went beyond ANY of my expectations.

1. Space--We wanted a space that felt seamless to the outdoors and provided some amount of covered patio space in case of rain (which mainly happens at night in this area). We have two young children (1 and 5 years old) and we wanted an outdoor space that was suitable AND safe (so no cliffs, high decks, etc.). This is often hard to find.

2. Kids--so I mentioned them earlier but travel is different with toddlers. This house was one of the most kid-friendly spaces I have ever stayed. Aki and Laura provided everything-- children's dishes, sippy cups, an inflatable duck pool, toys, crib, booster, books--We had to bring none of these things! There were also outdoor toys and plenty of patio space to enjoy. (FYI--this space is great sans kids as well)

3. Location. If you want a quiet rainforest on a small country road in Hawaii with the sounds of tree frogs and the occasional morning rooster--then this is your place! The kids loved walking down the dirt roads looking at banana trees or enjoying the fruit trees in the house's back yard.

As I was here for research, location mattered to me. I wanted a place that would be comfortable to just "be" for writing AND one that was central to Hilo, Pahoa, Volcano Village, etc. Again, after many years of visiting, we would choose this location again in a heart beat. I will take a group back here next summer and of all the places on the East side, I can't imagine a better place than HPP.

4. Other amazing things to mention:

This is a luxury home with soft linens, towels, a gourmet kitchen (everything we needed for a month's worth of cooking). The GIANT TV has Hulu and Netflix so we had some fun movie nights on the couch. The closet and master bathroom are both HUGE with plenty of drawers and there are two beautiful indoor showers.

Overall, if you are looking to be wowed, want to pinch yourself because you are in paradise, then spend some time at Aki and Laura's home---you will not be disappointed.

This new, modern and luxurious home is located in Hawaiian Paradise Park, which is a quiet, agriculturally zoned subdivision with over 100 miles of private road. The main roads are fully paved with most side roads comprised of compacted cinder, ideal for walking, running or cycling. There is about 4 miles of oceanfront with fantastic hiking on the trail abutting the ocean cliffs. Nearby towns of Pahoa (laid back) and Keaau (toward Hilo) offer many shopping amenities within a short drive; historical Hilo town and many restaurant options are only 12 miles away. A quiet country retreat yet close to amenities and conveniences. Explore the nearby hot ponds, Lava Tree State Park, Kapoho Tide Pools for fantastic snorkeling, and the scenic red road drive to the Kalapana lava area. Or, take the jaw-dropping Hamakua coastal drive, on the way to 'Kona side.'
