Zafferana Etnea Cottage Rental Photos and Description
Lava rock farmhouse among vineyards, cherry trees and a wooded valley
Casa Rosa is a recently renovated farmhouse that is situated in a beautiful natural environment: an estate of 2 hectares of vineyards, cherry trees and a wooded valley ideal for your summer picnic. On one side you see the Mount Etna but on the other side the view of the coast is a truly unique show: a landscape of 150 km until Taormina, the coast of Calabria in the far north and the province of Syracuse in the south. The ground floor has a living room with fireplace, sofa and dining table, kitchen, bathroom with toilet, bidet and shower, a double bedroom with a large double bed. In the attic there is a bedroom with large double bed, a terrace and a large bedroom with large double bed and two single beds. There is also a bathroom with toilet, bidet and shower. The garden is equipped with garden furniture including parasol and beach chairs, barbecue and various toys for children. The fireplace also supplies the central heating which makes Casa Rosa also suitable for a winter holiday.
The area: Casa Rosa is an excellent base from which to explore eastern Sicily. The village lies halfway between Catania and Taormina and just 15 kilometres from Acireale (a pretty little city, built on a plateau of lava, that is known for its Baroque churches). Giardini Naxos, a seaside resort with a sandy beach, is just 25 km from Casa Rosa (15 minutes with the highway). Next to Giardini Naxos we find Taormina 'the pearl of the Mediterranean' and the most exclusive seaside resort in Sicily. Its ancient Greek theatre is world famous for its extraordinary panoramic views. Pozzillo, Santa Maria la Scala are Aci Trezza are pleasant seaside villages near Zafferana Etnea. The nearest can be found in Praiola (9 km), a wild pebbled beach next to an impressive cliff. Travelling south, one hour’s drive away lies Syracuse.
Mount Etna: Casa Rosa is also an excellent base from which to explore Mount Etna and its surroundings. The villages of Etna, such as Trecastagni, Zafferana Etnea and Randazzo, are famous for their ancient lava flows, the architecture of their seventeenth century churches, their delicious local produce and the hospitality of the villagers. Situated about 600 metres above sea level, they are a favourite retreat of the city dwellers who, in summer are in search of cool, fresh air, while in winter are in search of snow for skiing. Few people are aware that Etna is a popular location for skiers in winter. On some glorious days in winter, it’s even possible to ski the frozen slopes in the morning enjoying a wonderful panoramic view of the Mediterranean, and then, the same afternoon, go and sunbathe on the beaches below!
