Melvin Village Cottage Rental Photos and Description

2 bdrm, 1 and 1/2 bath, sleeps 5, deck, dock, 2 porches, lakeview & water access

Seeking a quiet get-away in a country cottage by New Hampshire's largest lake? 'Windsong' by Lake Winnipesaukee, Melvin Village is just your 'cup of tea'. With a deck overlooking the Belknap Mountains, you will find all the comforts of home, and then some...

Experience the joys of canoeing, picnicing and sunbathing at water's edge. Take a 20-minute hike up Wawbeek Road to the Abenaki Tower and Trail for a scenic view of the area. Circle the lake on the SS Mount Washington cruise ship. Join in fests, craft fairs, hot air balloon rallies, Highland Games, scenic railroad and aerial tramway rides. Visit the oldest summer resort in America--Wolfeboro--just 9 miles south, with restaurants, shops, museums, outdoor concerts and Saturday night fireworks.

Day trip to the White Mountain National Forest. To summit Mount Washington--the highest peak in the Northeast--choose either to drive the Auto Road in low gear 45 minutes each way, or a guided tour, or the Cog Railway--the first mountain-climbing cog railway in the world. (This includes the Observatory Weather Discovery Center.) In clear weather, a panorama of the Atlantic Ocean, Maine, New Hampshire, Quebec and Vermont is the summit reward to visitors.

Luxuriate in fine dining at the Omni Mount Washington Hotel, Bretton Woods, with its breathtaking views of mountains and grounds.

Friendly neighbors look forward to welcoming you. Do come!

Super clean, super cozy - perfect spot to relax!

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is a hidden gem - it is located right on the water so you can hear the waves lapping as you sit on the deck. Our favorite part was the enormous dock that we hung out on every day. Perfect for swimming, fishing and boating. The cottage was immaculate and the sleeping arrangements were perfect for our family of 5. I liked having the adult bedroom across the living room from the kids - nice for privacy. Also, having a bathroom in the master bedroom was nice. Kitchen is small but very well-appointed with every kitchen gadget you could ever need! A brand new grill was also wonderful to have (nicer than ours at home!) Overall, I would rate this cottage a 10 out of 10. It lacked nothing and we hope to be return renters next year!

Lake Rental

  • 5 of 5

My family of four (two adults, children aged four and six) rented this cottage for a week in August of 2009. It is next door to a cottage that is owned by a member of our family, so we are friendly with the owner. She has rented to guests of our family many times.

The cottage is very clean and comfortable. The decor is simple, and in keeping with the age and style of the house. All the furniture/bedding was in good condition, as were the bathrooms. There was a nice screened porch with a dining table, an outdoor terrace with Adirondack chairs and great view, games for the kids to play, books to read, and an outdoor grill. We did not use the kitchen much as we mostly cooked and ate with our family next door, but it was well equipped.

One of the best features of this cottage is the dock and quiet location on the lake. The dock it is larger than most, and has a nice sheltered spot for young children to swim with a sandy area for them to stand in the water. The dock also has plenty of room for adults to sit in deck chairs to take in the view or sunbathe.

Our family plans on renting this cottage again, and again on trips to NH (if it is still available!)
