My husband and I are, recently, retired. We are from Western Canada and decided it was time to escape the cold and snow. We were looking for a safe, tropical destination and we are happy to say we have found it, here, in Placencia, Belize. The average temperature is about 27 to 29 degrees C.(80 - 84 F). There is no such thing as rush hour traffic, people take their time getting places and many do not even wear watches. We can keep as busy as we wish and relax when we want to. We have made some lovely friends here, many of whom are here seasonally, and others who live here, permanently, We started bowling at the new four lane bowling alley in Maya Beach, which may not sound very exciting. However, it gives us the opportunity to make friends and have fun together. My husband has begun playing horse shoes with the locals, in the village every Saturday afternoon. The prize they compete for is a tab at the Barefoot Bar. You can, always, find live music at local restaurants or bars. It is amazing how many of the new residents are talented singers, guitarists and drummers. One young woman has, even, taken up fire dancing and performs for local functions. There are many local, woodworking artists, painters, jewellery artisans and weavers. We retreat to Belize for four to five months of the year and are willing to rent our condominium when we are not here.

Glenda Kemp purchased this condo in 2009

We chose Belize because it is a Commonwealth country, the official language is English, it has a stable government, the people are friendly , we can drink the water. and we never have to shovel snow. My husband told his co-workers, when he retired, that he wanted to wear shorts for the rest of his life and he can do that in Belize.

We had looked at condominiums in faster paced more touristy locations but that is not what we were looking for. We wanted a quiet place to come where we could relax, make good friends and enjoy a more peaceful lifestyle. We are outside the main village and, thus, it is very quiet in our location. Our neighborhood noise consists of the gentle motion of the sea lapping on the shore and the sounds of the tropical parrots and birds in the palm trees. We can bike or drive to the village when we want to or we can enjoy the solitude of Cocoplum whenever we feel the need. We are very happy with our choice. and know you will agree if you have the opportunity to experience it.

We enjoy the lovely pool which is a few steps from our front door, as well as the view of the sea and the grounds from our balcony, We find it very relaxing to wander down to the dock to read and relax At times, we take the opportunity to hang our hammock and sway, peacefully in the the Tradewind breezes. If it gets too warm, we float in the warm, blue green sea. We may see see dolphins swimming nearby, pelicans swooping down to catch lunch, manta rays in the water, as well as small fish flying through the air. There is a local fisherman we have befriended who comes by to sell us freshly caught snapper, grouper, snook or lobster . We feel very spoiled relaxing at sunset, barbecuing our fresh fish.

Within 3 km. north of us, travelling on the newly paved road, there are several small, yet exceptional restaurants as well as a small, state of the art bowling alley. Or, we can choose to travel south to Placencia village to experience the world's best gelato, participate in weekly games of horseshoes or eat at various food stands or restaurants on the beach or on the street.

Within a half hour ride, to the north, is Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary , the world's first jaguar reserve. We hike a few kilometers to swim below beautiful double waterfalls or tube down a jungle river. There is snorkeling just off the shores of the beaches and the second longest coral reef in the world follows the coastline. Divers travel from all over the world to experience it. The area is renowned for fly fishing as well. We can explore Mayan ruins, learn how to create cocoa from the cocoa plants, search out toucans and red macaws or take trips into the jungle to search out the howler monkeys. The list goes on and on. You can do little or a lot, here, and it is all within a close proximity. Life is good in Belize and I hope you have a chance to experience it in our piece of paradise.

This penthouse inside the villas at Coco Plum in Placencia, Belize is a home sanctuary! This home has more life than a Ritz-Carlton suite. My wife and I celebrated our 10th year wedding anniversary. We couldn't have asked for anything more. This home was well-equipped with all the essentials! The residents and staff were very friendly and helpful with lots of knowledge of the area. All you need to do is buy your groceries and you're in paradise! I would encourage renting a vehicle to get around to the village from this location and any other places you would like to go and visit. Also, just to let you know that eating out can get expensive (USD$35-60 for 2 people per meal (Breakfast being the least expensive) Also, I would stay here again and again! I recommend this property to anyone thats looking for tranquility. Thanks for having us....

Owner's Response: Dear Roberto:
Thank you so much for your kind review of our home. I am pleased to know that you and your wife found it, as we do, to be a sanctuary. We enjoy going to the village and experiencing the activities there but we are always glad to return to our quiet condo development. We are very happy there and enjoy our peaceful afternoons relaxing on the dock. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on Cocoplum and you are more than welcome to return again and again!.

My wife and 16month old son stayed here for 10 days. We had a wonderfully relaxing time staying at this condo. It was very quiet and relaxing. The condo has a great view of the ocean. We had the swimming pool and dock to ourselves most times. The condo is well furnished and feels brand new. It is located close enough to ammenities in Placencia, but far enough out for peace and quiet. It was a wonderful place to stay.

My husband and I were guests February 12 -16, 2013. After spending delightful days in the warmth and sunshine of Placencia, we slept oh so soundly in a comfy bed, in a spacious cool bedroom, cooled by the refreshing evening breeze coming in through windows overlooking treed property on one side, and the Caribbean Sea on the other.
We enjoyed luxurious showers in a spacious, clean modern bathroom. Meals were served on the balcony overlooking the most beautiful view of the pool and a palapa covered seating area, surrounded by tropical greenery and flowering plants all flourishing in a tidy well groomed yard. The view of the beach was phenomenal. The pier with its shaded palapa and lounge area beckoned us to come and relax with a book, or simply to lie back and soak in the calm and incredible beautiful surroundings. And there was always the option for a refreshing dip in sea or pool!

The condo is immaculately clean and offers a comfortable floor plan. The master bedroom area and guest area is private, yet wonderfully connected with the spacious kitchen and seating area. Beautiful paintings reflect the work of local artists and the culture of the area.

The people of Placencia and surrounding community are warm and friendly. Everything you may need for a safe and enjoyable holiday is available nearby.

If you are looking for an amazing vacation home away from home, located in the middle of incredible Caribbean beauty and warmth, with lots of adventure to fill your day, look no further! This is it!

Belize is an incredibly diverse and interesting playground for kids and adults of all ages. Hike in Cockscomb Jaguar Preserve; swim under double waterfalls, tube down a tropical river. Take a trip to Monkey River to see and hear Howler Monkeys, turtles, crocodiles, manatee, bats and tropical birds. Visit Mayan historical sites. Cave tube through underground caves. Rappel down a 300 foot sinkhole in the jungle floor. Explore caves, one of which contains The Crystal Maiden (crystallized skeletal remains of a young girl who was possible a Mayan sacrifice victim). Snorkel or dive to experience sharks, manta rays, turtles and amazingly colourful fish. Fly fishermen are attracted by the Tarpon, Bonefish and Permit. Witness the spring migration of whale sharks; full moon in April and May. The whale shark is the largest fish in the sea. Their average weight is 20 tons and they are comparable to the size of a bus. The coral reef is the second longest in the world. Wander the beaches, looking for starfish and sand dollars. Relax by the pool or on the pier, enjoying the cooling Tradewinds.
