We have been visiting the Hawaiian islands together since 2001 and fell in love with the Big Island on our first visit! We are grateful to have this little retreat and to be able to share it with others! We hope you enjoy the island as much as we do!
Elizabeth & Jim purchased this condo in 2013
We love this condo for its proximity to so many lovely places. It is within walking distance to Banyans (surfing), White Sands (boogie boarding), and Kahalu'u (snorkeling) beaches. We can also walk into Kona and have a meal, listen to music or just watch the passersby. We like to go to the Farmers Market in town to get fresh produce and flowers. The Kona Pier is a wonderful place to swim, or rent paddle boards and kayaks.
We have included everything we need for a comfortable stay when we are on the island. We hope you find everything you need, too!
The cutest little one bedroom apartment with a small but awesome balcony overlooking the road and the life happening out there. Opposite an awesome raw poke fish restaurant where all the locals go. This condo had everything we needed and more uncluded a blender/smoothie maker, water sport equipment etc. We will definitely try come back to this condo again.
I was fortunate enough to spend 10 wonderful days in Jim & Elizabeth's beautiful condo. Absolutely loved it, didn't want to leave. The place has everything you could need or want for. Lovely kitchen, well stocked with pots, pans, some herbs, and thank goodness a French press. The best way to enjoy Kona coffee. I baked allot of banana bread in that kitchen, as well as some incredible meals.
Roomy bedroom with an oh-so-comfortable bed. Plenty of linens and towels. Even a sleepy lamb to hear the ocean from the bedroom. Having a washer & dryer was a great bonus. Extras in the bathroom for those few things you might have forgotten.
The decor was so comfortable and fitting for Hawaii. Tasteful not over the top Hawaii. Loved it. Obviously Jim & Elizabeth are cat people in a the occasional cute items such as the watch kitty by the front door.
I thoroughly enjoyed the view from the Lanai. Yes your right on Alii drive and yes there's traffic. But noise all the time no. Mid morning, when everyone's getting started with their day, late afternoon when people are getting home or going out, then for a short period in the evening. I never found the noise level to be too high or intolerable. I actually enjoyed the "people watching" during those times.
The neighbor was very friendly, in fact, everyone I met in and around the complex was friendly. Including the kitty's in the parking lot to the little boar that visits each night.
And location, location, location! You are so close to everything from the markets down the road, the beach across the street and of course, the Poke Shack! Love those guys!
I would and will highly recommend this rental to everyone. It is on the third floor, so there are stairs, 32 to be exact, but it's a nice little jaunt up and down. This was my 7th trip to the Big island, I've stayed allot of places, and this was by far, top of my list. I will definitely be back! A Hui Hou, as the locals say. Thank you Jim & Elizabeth, for sharing your wonderful space. Your love of it comes thru.
We loved staying at the Kona Bali Kai! Bright green lizards and mongooses in the yard, beautiful groundskeeping, and lovely picnic areas with gas grills. The condo was clean and beautifully decorated, and had everything we needed. Being able to prepare breakfast and lunch saved us so much money, and allowed us to do more on our vacation. If you didn't rent a car (we did) you could catch a bus right in front to travel either direction on Alii Dr. to beaches, shopping and dining. A cool breeze ran through the large windows and doors, and with the ceiling fans was very comfortable (although there is a small air conditioner.) The owners were very friendly and accommodating. The location is perfect, you could walk to some beaches, or drive to others for FABULOUS snorkeling, boogie boarding and surfing. We had a BLAST! We will definitely stay here again, and recommend it to all of our friends.
Do not stay on the east side of Ali'i Drive unless you like the noise from the road.
Impossible to hear TV with the patio door open.
Location is OK but you need a car. Closest beach is one mile south. 3 miles south of Kona. Closest open golf course is a 25 minute drive.
No coffee shop unless you drive a mile or 2.
No walking trails unless on suburban streets.
Unit OK but needed a couple of maintenance items that were ignored during our stay. Hopefully they were taken care of on departure.
No cleaning service during 3.5 week stay and cleaning fee is too high for the condition we left it in.
Inside of apartment feels great. Outside feels like a typical apartment building. Great price. Nice accommodations. Across street from ocean.
