Overview

Sweet Valley House Rental Photos and Description

3 bedroom, 2 1/3 bath, 3 story home with 80 feet of shaded lakefront

Three story lakefront home at beautiful Harveys Lake.

Newly painted rooms throughout.

We have a spacious 80 feet of lakefront with one of the few, deep, shaded lots on the lake, complete with a grassy lawn. The lakefront is fenced and tall arbor vidae bushes provide privacy from the road. Walk from the lawn down to the concrete patio and large wooden dock. Enjoy the swing under the trees and watch the boats go by. Eat your meals on the dock under the sun umbrella, or soak up some sun and swim- you will have no trouble filling your days with fun and relaxation here. The second floor of the boathouse features a rec room and deck that provides expansive views of the lake and surrounding mountains. This is a terrific spot for watching the Sunday sailboat races.

There are so many perfect places to sit and relax- in addition to the lakefront. The home has a large back deck with a wooden table and benches under a covered roof- another wonderful spot to enjoy breakfast or a game of cards.

If you ever want to leave the house, and no one will blame you if you don't, drive around the lake to Grotto Pizza or Jones' Potato Pancakes- two legendary restaurants. Jones' is cash only and has a very simple menu of freshly made potato pancakes, pierogies, and just a few other items. The Grotto has a formal dining room, a sports bar, and outside seating with views of the lake. The Grotto also delivers, so you don't actually need to leave the house! The pizza tastes best enjoyed on the dock on a summer evening!

Gorgeous Rickett's Glen State Park is located about 25 minutes from the house, and with multiple waterfalls and hiking trails, this is a must see. Tunkhannock and the Endless Mountains are about 20 minutes away. Tunkhannock's downtown features shops and restaurants, a renovated historic movie theater, and even a tasting room for a local winery.

Montage Mountain, Big Boulder, and Elk Mountain are the closest ski resorts, with Montage being the closest. Beautiful stone fireplace in The Lake House living room features a new electric fireplace for instant ambiance on a chilly day- perfect for a romantic getaway!

About Katie Tripp- Owner

I grew up in this house and I love this house, the Lake, and the wonderful community of people who live here. I'm looking forward to sharing this special place with others, so they can create wonderful memories here, as I have done, and continue to do.

Katie Tripp- Owner purchased this house in 1970

Why Katie Tripp- Owner chose Sweet Valley

This is a really unique property on the lake. The railroad used to run along where our house sits, so we have a wider lakefront than many. Having a shaded grassy yard on the lake side is almost non-existant on any other property here. The house is spacious and fun- lots of great places to gather or to give everyone their space. And there are so many outdoor spaces to enjoy. This is a beautiful area for vacationing, in any season. The autumn leaves are spectacular, as they reflect off the lake, and the hill behind the house is perfect for sledding- just stop at the back shed or else you might end up in the garden- I did that a few times as a kid. When the lake freezes, you can ice skate down by the boat launch where no one has docks that they bubble to keep the ice away. If you're lucky enough to be at the house when the crocuses pop up, or the hyacinth bloom, and the rhododendron show off their bright pink flowers, then you know it's spring and summer is just around the corner. You can walk down the street to Javer's store to pick up a newspaper or quart of milk and loaf of bread, take a bike ride around the lake, or just sit still and watch the cars go by. This is home.

What makes this house unique

The shaded lake front is unique. There is a small market within biking or walking distance. The layout of the property on the hill side allows you to access 'ground level' from all three stories of the house, as you move up the hill.

Great location

  • 4 of 5

My family and our lab stayed over New Year's and had a great time. We are from the area and were looking for a larger space to stretch out in between family visits. The lake house was perfect!

The kitchen was well appointed, the library well stocked and the owner was super easy to communicate with. I'm sure we'll be back again in summer, when we can take advantage of the dock and lake access.

Christmas Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My family and our two dogs took a trip down to Harvey's Lake and stayed at this beautiful and charming house. The pictures did not do it justice. The private dock is right across the street giving you amazing views 24/7. We sat out at night and looked at the stars, ordered pizza from Grotto's the first night and cooked a huge dinner the second night - the kitchen had all the appliances we needed. The beds were very comfortable and the library had so many amazing books! We didn't even miss the Cable/Internet.

Katie was very helpful through the entire process. We can't wait to go back!

Wonderful Fall Weekend Family Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Thank you for sharing your beautiful appointed home with our family. What a wonderful time we had!

The breathtaking view of Harvey's Lake surrounded by colorful fall foliage, was truly amazing.

From the moment we arrived, we felt so welcomed. The comfort of a very spacious and decorated home, was filled with everything you could ask for. Your gorgeous home was ready and waiting to be filled with guests to enjoy.

Your lovely kitchen was now filled with our family's special recipes. We arrived with our mother's delicious favorites that she would prepare for all of us, and gathered together for a long awaited family get-together.

The beds were so comfortably made and beautifully arranged for us. The bathroom linens exquisitely placed and plentiful. Sit back and relax with a good book from the reading room...filled with books. The second floor great room was an awesome location for great conversation and a stunning view of the lake, and the third floor view was over the top spectacular!

Your lake front dock and top deck was the place to be sunrise to sunset!

Thank you again and we look forward to many more visits.

Early Fall Getaway

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful extended week-end! The nights were cool, but the days were warm. We even took a dip in the lake and the boys enjoyed the tubes and kayak. All the decks on this terrific property are wonderful and we enjoyed all of them! The house is so unique and was extremely clean. Everything is there that you need including bedding and towels. The owner Katie is so helpful and made the process effortless. Thank you for opening your home for us to enjoy. Can't wait to return!!

Wonderful fall weekend

  • 5 of 5

We were fortunate to stumble upon this lakehouse rental while looking for boat rentals. We live locally and were looking for a local weekend retreat. We had a fantastic weekend and mostly enjoyed the large dock, the boathouse, pooltable, kayak, and deck on the boathouse. The house itself is beautiful with cozy, nautical decor with plenty of space. The views of the lake from the master bedroom are fantastic. The house was clean, cozy, spacious, updated, and just comfortable. We were fortunate to take our dog who enjoyed the lake as well. The property has a nice enclosed yard amenable to animals. Our nieces and nephews kayaked, swam, and fished all day. It was really a great weekend. Our family is still thanking us! We can't wait to visit next year! Thank you for a great experience. We'll see you soon!

Harveys Lake is a beautiful and fun vacation spot. During the summer, enjoy a swim in the lake, go boating, or watch the world go by while lounging on the dock. Drive to Jones' for Potato Pancakes or enjoy a piping hot pizza from the world famous Grotto Pizza. Venture out to the Endless Mountains for an afternoon of shopping in downtown Tunkhannock or drive out to Eagles Mere. Less than 30 minutes away is spectacular Rickett's Glen State Park, with its breathtaking waterfalls and superb hiking along a clear flowing stream. Enjoy fall in all its splendor, when the leaves come ablaze and local orchards offer apples and cider. The Lake provides a great winter retreat as well. Sled down the back hill on the property or drive down to the boat launch where the absence of impellers allow the lake to freeze up to the shoreline for ice skating. Spring time brings rhododendrons and new life to the trees, with the promise of summer just around the corner. Harveys Lake and the Endless Mountains provide an idyllic and relaxing retreat at any time of year.
