ENJOY LAKESIDE FUN IN THE ENDLESS MOUNTAIN AT HISTORIC HARVEYS LAKE

Sweet Valley House Rental Photos and Description

3 bedroom, 2 1/3 bath, 3 story home with 80 feet of shaded lakefront

Three story lakefront home at beautiful Harveys Lake.

Newly painted rooms throughout.

We have a spacious 80 feet of lakefront with one of the few, deep, shaded lots on the lake, complete with a grassy lawn. The lakefront is fenced and tall arbor vidae bushes provide privacy from the road. Walk from the lawn down to the concrete patio and large wooden dock. Enjoy the swing under the trees and watch the boats go by. Eat your meals on the dock under the sun umbrella, or soak up some sun and swim- you will have no trouble filling your days with fun and relaxation here. The second floor of the boathouse features a rec room and deck that provides expansive views of the lake and surrounding mountains. This is a terrific spot for watching the Sunday sailboat races.

There are so many perfect places to sit and relax- in addition to the lakefront. The home has a large back deck with a wooden table and benches under a covered roof- another wonderful spot to enjoy breakfast or a game of cards.

If you ever want to leave the house, and no one will blame you if you don't, drive around the lake to Grotto Pizza or Jones' Potato Pancakes- two legendary restaurants. Jones' is cash only and has a very simple menu of freshly made potato pancakes, pierogies, and just a few other items. The Grotto has a formal dining room, a sports bar, and outside seating with views of the lake. The Grotto also delivers, so you don't actually need to leave the house! The pizza tastes best enjoyed on the dock on a summer evening!

Gorgeous Rickett's Glen State Park is located about 25 minutes from the house, and with multiple waterfalls and hiking trails, this is a must see. Tunkhannock and the Endless Mountains are about 20 minutes away. Tunkhannock's downtown features shops and restaurants, a renovated historic movie theater, and even a tasting room for a local winery.

Montage Mountain, Big Boulder, and Elk Mountain are the closest ski resorts, with Montage being the closest.

About Katie Tripp- Owner

I grew up in this house and I love this house, the Lake, and the wonderful community of people who live here. I'm looking forward to sharing this special place with others, so they can create wonderful memories here, as I have done, and continue to do.

Katie Tripp- Owner purchased this house in 1970

Why Katie Tripp- Owner chose Sweet Valley

This is a really unique property on the lake. The railroad used to run along where our house sits, so we have a wider lakefront than many. Having a shaded grassy yard on the lake side is almost non-existant on any other property here. The house is spacious and fun- lots of great places to gather or to give everyone their space. And there are so many outdoor spaces to enjoy. This is a beautiful area for vacationing, in any season. The autumn leaves are spectacular, as they reflect off the lake, and the hill behind the house is perfect for sledding- just stop at the back shed or else you might end up in the garden- I did that a few times as a kid. When the lake freezes, you can ice skate down by the boat launch where no one has docks that they bubble to keep the ice away. If you're lucky enough to be at the house when the crocuses pop up, or the hyacinth bloom, and the rhododendron show off their bright pink flowers, then you know it's spring and summer is just around the corner. You can walk down the street to Javer's store to pick up a newspaper or quart of milk and loaf of bread, take a bike ride around the lake, or just sit still and watch the cars go by. This is home.

What makes this house unique

The shaded lake front is unique. There is a small market within biking or walking distance. The layout of the property on the hill side allows you to access 'ground level' from all three stories of the house, as you move up the hill.

Second week-long retreat for multi-generational relaxation and fun

  • 5 of 5
This lakeside retreat gave our extended family a second year of a week-long retreat for relaxation and fun, with the advantage of warm, end-of-summer weather. Daily swimming, fishing and kayaking delighted our family, from toddlers to seniors. Pet lovers note: for a modest additional cleaning fee, we brought our two small dogs.

Our family was on the dock from early morning to late at night (coffee to cocktails.) We find it the perfect environment for relaxation. The large dock and boat house are surrounded by shady trees, with plenty of benches, a wooden swing, tables and chairs for gatherings small and large. Younger children can play safely in a small sandy area with lots of digging toys, and use a few steps to enter a very shallow part of the lake. At the end of the dock is deep water for refreshing swims. The owner provides a 3 seat ocean kayak.

Harveys Lake is 9-miles around, a sort of bowl-like formation of tree covered hills. The view from the dock is lovely, and the life of the lake changes from busy with watercraft on weekends to quiet during weekdays, waves in the light winds to glass smooth in the evenings.

The home is a beautifully preserved, 3 story older dwelling, with wood floors, many antique furnishings and modernized baths. The 3rd floor master suite is exceptional, and leads outdoors onto uniquely designed decking. There's plenty of linen and towels, plus a washer and dryer downstairs. The 1970/80s era kitchen is fully functional and well-equipped with dishes and utensils.

There is a Weber bucket charcoal grille outside the kitchen, and we brought one for grilling simple meals on the dock. Our family purchased groceries at a supermarket 20 minutes away, and cooked delicious fresh meals on the dock. There is plenty of "pub grub" at and near the lake, and the reasonably-priced Lakeside Skillet has large hearty breakfasts.

The house has plenty of reading material, and we brought a stack of books with us. We enjoyed being "unplugged and disconnected" for a week. We hope to return, and have recommended the Lake House to several friends. If a beautiful lakeside retreat with plenty of water activities sounds appealing, this is your place.

Amazing Fall Lake Visit

  • 5 of 5
We made our first trip to the Lake House for the Dallas HS 30th Reunion. We had an awesome time at the event but the highlight was our time spent at the Lake House. The house is so comfortable and relaxing. We had beautiful sunrises greet us each morning with the light glistening over the lake spreading shimmering colors of red, orange, yellow, pink, peach, and purple through the windows of the third floor bedroom. The decks, dock, and views are amazing. We so enjoyed our stay and look forward to our next visit. I would highly recommend the Lake House for a couple of family gateway to beautiful Harveys Lake. Lots to do and adventures to take in the region if you would like to explore. Thank you for a wonderful fall weekend at the lake!

Wonderful Wonderful Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5
We had great time during our stay! I have already recommended it to some of my friends. We will definitely rent the house again if we visit the area again. Very nice house. It is old, but with great design and well maintained. Great view from the bay windows on the second and third floor! We had dinner on the deck of boat house. The owner Katie is very nice as well!

Family retreat at a clear mountain lake with a lovely home and dock for picnics, swimming & fishing

Family retreat at a clear mountain lake with a lovely home and dock for picnics, swimming & fishing
  • 5 of 5
We have only positive things to say about our stay here, and recommend it highly to anyone seeking relaxing days at a clear and refreshing mountain lake. A mature couple, we were joined by our young adult son and his girlfriend visiting from California --- and hosted a picnic on the dock one afternoon for nearby relatives.

Our family was fortunate to experience wonderful "end of season" weather during Labor Day week. What we all loved about this rental: (1) The dock and boathouse are enclosed in a tree-shaded, park-like setting with low stone walls, grass and a "mini sandy beach" for young children. Steps lead to a shallow swim area; at the dock's end, the water depth is 8-10 ft +. There are plenty of sand toys and inflatable tubes. Sturdy picnic tables with umbrellas on both the long dock and upper level deck of the boathouse afford beautiful views of the lake. (2) The house is a unique environment, a lovely, three-level year 'round home with an exceptional, spacious top floor overlooking the lake. From its floor-to-ceiling windows and skylight, we watched night lightning and morning flocks of geese flying in V formation . On the slope behind the home is extensive redwood decking that winds through garden--- a serene and lovely setting that must be glorious during the spring bloom. The home has a fully equipped kitchen with plenty of dishware and cook ware; linens for 3 BRs & sleeper sofa, and plenty of towels.

We enjoyed Labor Day traditions including fireworks and a night-time procession of sail boats with red lanterns ringing the lake. Typical of hot summer weekends, the lake was at first crowded with motor boats and jet skis, but quieted down on the weekdays. We brought our coffee to the dock early in the morning, and stayed all day --- preparing simple meals and snacks, and using the small electric grill on the dock (bring a grill if you plan to bbq.) A large supermarket is a 20-min drive, and there are plenty of options nearby for pizza, burgers, pub grub and breakfast. One has to travel a bit further for fine dining, but, in our case, we didn't care to leave our lakeside retreat.

The owner, Katie, was responsive and accommodating to our needs. A few caveats: Those with mobility problems may find the 3 levels of interior steps challenging. The inside dining area is a bit cramped. We were happy to be away from the Internet and TV, but others may not be.

Our Lake Vacation

  • 5 of 5
We truly loved our week at this lakeside home. We chose the hottest week of the summer for our vacation and were very much appreciative of the air conditioned home. The shaded area at the lake was awesome. Many an hour was spent in the swing overlooking the water. We swam daily, used the kayak, visited Benton Rodeo and Rickett's Glen, enjoyed lunch in Tunkhannock at Twig's, ordered Grotto pizza delivered to our dock, and ended the day with ice cream at Dad's. The house and gardens were beautiful. We loved looking at all the antiques and enjoyed looking at the videos of the area, including the railroad that used to run right through the lakeside property. The view from the 3rd story bedroom window was breathtaking. You could enjoy the lake activity both day and night. Our last evening there fireworks were set off across the lake. What a perfect ending to a vacation! We would recommend this vacation home to anyone. There are a lot of steps, but access to the lake is pretty easy. We would love to return here again.

Harveys Lake is a beautiful and fun vacation spot. During the summer, enjoy a swim in the lake, go boating, or watch the world go by while lounging on the dock. Drive to Jones' for Potato Pancakes or enjoy a piping hot pizza from the world famous Grotto Pizza. Venture out to the Endless Mountains for an afternoon of shopping in downtown Tunkhannock or drive out to Eagles Mere. Less than 30 minutes away is spectacular Rickett's Glen State Park, with its breathtaking waterfalls and superb hiking along a clear flowing stream. Enjoy fall in all its splendor, when the leaves come ablaze and local orchards offer apples and cider. The Lake provides a great winter retreat as well. Sled down the back hill on the property or drive down to the boat launch where the absence of impellers allow the lake to freeze up to the shoreline for ice skating. Spring time brings rhododendrons and new life to the trees, with the promise of summer just around the corner. Harveys Lake and the Endless Mountains provide an idyllic and relaxing retreat at any time of year.
