About Mary Johnson

We purchased this home on the lake as a retreat from busy lives and away from crowds. We have renovated kitchens, carpets, bedrooms and all bathrooms to feel like your own home. We liked the fact we have seen three generations of moose families grow up on our back lawn.

Mary Johnson purchased this house in 2007

Why Mary Johnson chose Grand Lake

We have lived in several resort mountain towns in Colorado including Breckenridge, Summit County and in other homes in Grand County. This one has an amazing views of true untouched Colorado wilderness, and we can sit on our dock on the water to watch fish jump in the glorious evening sunsets. And we left the crowds behind. Sorry, no outlet malls near here!

What makes this house unique

Unobstructed viewing of the Milky Way after sunset is a plus. Remarkable wildlife viewing from the deck that we never saw on our expeditions to Alaska. We can hike in Rocky Mtn National Park, hear the elk bugle, and be back home in our canoe within 20 minutes. Its the best of what Colorado was at the turn of the last century, a true west experience. Coffee in the morning watching fish jump at sunrise from the couch makes life worth living at Moose Lodge.

Great Vacation!

  • 5 of 5
Perfect getaway. The house was fully stocked, had comfortable furniture and amazing beds. Columbine Lake is absolutely beautiful. We fished from the dock everyday. Nothing better than pan fried trout and eggs for breakfast. Wildlife was abundant. On Columbine Lake, we saw river otter, elk, deer and 7 moose. We will be back.

Beautiful Cabin

  • 5 of 5
This was a wonderful family visit. Having bedrooms on 3 levels was great for our group. Loved the house and yard, and the moose walking through! We did catch fish from the dock and also enjoyed the use of the canoe. Nice and quiet area. Everything was clean. So glad we found you on VRBO! Hope to visit again.

Great Service!!!

  • 5 of 5
Wow! I have been coming to the Grand Lake/Columbine Lake area for decades. This may be my favorite family vacation on earth. Hiking, Biking, Rocky Mtn National Park, Grand Lake, Fishing, Wildlife Galore! It is unbeatable. I found the owners to be warm, helpful, and very kind in every way. The house has every amenity that you need, and a large lawn and dock to base your days from. It has the best deck in Columbine Lake, and can't be beat! Every day I was there I had to pinch myself: Otters, fish jumping, stargazing, biking into RMNP, swimming, fishing. I will spend the rest of the year dreaming about being back.

Poor service

  • 1 of 5
I am not one to give poor reviews, however the level of service the owner provided was terrible. Her attitude was completely inappropriate and unprofessional. The house was missing amenities that were described in the listing, the ice maker was broken, and there was a lack of toiletries to supply the duration of the stay. The couch was so dirty we had to vacuum and clean it. It is a beautiful location with plenty of rentals to choose from. We will return to the area, but will not rent from this owner again.

Owner's Response: It is unfortunate you did not enjoy your stay at our home. When I responded with the information needed to come to our home I indicated that the Ice maker had broken during the last rental stay. I let you know that prior to your stay and told you that it would be fixed as soon time allowed. Where does it say that the pullout sofa is available for use. I'm not sure how many people you had stay but there are four bedrooms which allows for eight people to stay. The exterior of the sofa is clean. I have not listed a sofa bed because it is not suitable for sleeping. Each restroom had additional toiletries available. I am not sure how many people you had staying because the amount of toilet items I leave is more than sufficient for short stays of 8 people. I would like to address that you left the second set of keys in an unfindable place where the house keeper was concerned that you had taken them. Also you did not empty your dirty diapers or trash in the appropriate trash receptacle. You have a responsibility as a renter to do your part. Unfortunately because I requested you return the key or be charged you got upset. As you read this review I hope you notice all other renters are more than happy.

We will be back--someday

  • 5 of 5
This lakefront home is very lovely, spacious, and well maintained. The decks and fishing from the private dock were a big hit with our family. And getting to see many moose right outside our door was an added bonus.
