About Daniel Otto

Dan and Heidi moved to Austin in the early 90's right after college, both love the unique benefits and eclectic mix of people in Austin and wouldn't want to live anywhere else in Texas. Dan works as a financial analyst for the State of Texas and Heidi is a teacher at the Texas School for the Blind.

Daniel Otto purchased this bungalow in 1996

Why Daniel Otto chose Austin

In my humble opinion this is the best neighborhood in Central Austin with everything needed within walking distance. I lived without a car here for a 4 year stretch and never felt stranded from anything I needed. The ability to get anywhere in central city by foot, bike or bus is definitely my favorite benefit of the location. There is also the plus of being in quiet family oriented neighborhood far enough north of the kids in west campus but only 1 block from the busy Guadalupe drag with its interesting mix of shops and people.

What makes this bungalow unique

The house was my primary residence from 1996 until 2010 when I moved in with Heidi. Heidi and I have had some fantastic travels in the last few years and we stayed in some great vacation rentals and I wanted to be able to share that same experience with others coming to visit Austin. Since making this decision we have spent 3 months renovating the property inside and out keeping in mind what was most important to us when were staying in vacation rentals. We love the cozy feel of the house and the wonderful screened in porch for chilling out! The house has been furnished with a mix of brand new and used pieces with character. The modern bedroom furnishings, new couches and entertainment center are fabulous. Hope you have a lovely stay!

The central location. Wild flowers blooming in the front yard. The flagstone back verandah. Carefully appointed kitchen. Perfect. A true Austin experience.

Great Location

  • 4 of 5

I came to town for my son to participate in 3 week intensive physical therapy. I brought along my 15 year old niece to help with my son. The location of this house was great. It's close to grocery shopping as well as several restaurants and it's easy access to MoPac. The house was the perfect size for us. The bedrooms were both spacious and the beds and linens were comfortable. The bathroom is quite small and made it difficult for me to get my handicap son in and out of the tub, but we made due. There was only one snafu for me and it had more to do with the type of vehicle. My wheelchair accessible van rides low to the ground and because of the steep entrance to the driveway, I had to park on the street. I found this out the hard way, after getting my van stuck in the driveway and having to have a tow truck pull me out. But my husband had no trouble parking his suburban in the driveway. And the street parking was not really a big deal. There was a small ant problem in the bathroom, but I notified the owner and he took care of it immediately. Speaking of the owner, he was very accessible and went above and beyond to make sure our stay was comfortable and satisfying. Overall, our stay was great and I would recommend to other visitors.

Excellent

  • 5 of 5

This is a great house in a perfect central location near UT campus, grocery store, restaurants, running trails, etc. Really enjoyed our stay there while visiting family in Austin. All the features in the house were excellent-- comfy beds, TV, cable, wifi, screened in back porch, and well-equipped kitchen. The owner was very easy to communicate with and helpful in setting up our stay. Would be more than happy to stay again in this house!

Lovely house; great location

  • 5 of 5

Excellent house. Great TV/Stereo/DVR entertainment package. Scrupulously clean and tidy. Not 'junked up' like so many rentals. Owner very easy to work with and very accommodating. Screened in porch a plus. Beds good. Bathroom adequate - a bit small - but fine. Towels great. House is well equipped. Would definitely stay again.

Great House & Location

  • 5 of 5

This was the second stay in this property. It's conveniently located two blocks off one of the major streets running through the University Neighborhood. It was exactly as advertised, had a nice flatscreen TV and Stereo, fully equipped kitchen, nice screened back porch, laundry, and comfortable beds. It's walking distance to a couple of good, well known restaurants, a 24 hour pharmacy, Co-Op grocery store, and a coffee shop/bakery. I plan to stay here again when in Austin.

Home Away from Home

  • 5 of 5

This cute little house is in an excellent location to enjoy all Austin has to offer--UT campus, downtown, wonderful restaurants and shopping to name a few. The house itself is spacious and great for entertaining. The backyard screened-in porch is an added bonus. We enjoy being able to stay here for UT football games and enjoy all the comforts of home while watching other games on the big screen TV. The added bonus of having the Longhorn Network is just icing on the cake! Dan is great to work with and available if we need anything.
