So Holland!! If you picture Holland, you picture this place. Windmills, bicycles, meadows with cows, sea with exquisite (sailing) boats, near a historic fisher's village where herring can be on the menu, natural ice skating routes in winter, and sometimes farmers passing by in clogs or with horse and wagon. For sight seeing there is a lovely architecture, both historic and modern with cafe's, restaurants and shops. Most facilities are available, if not 'next door' otherwise surely in Koudem (5miles), Balk (8 miles) or the large town Sneek (about 25 minutes away), The house has it's own private Sports Hall, so any type of sport you wish to do in here is possible. A signpost for several of the beautiful bicycle routes can be seen from the window of the accommodation. The area is a most excellent location of ANY type of water sport; sailing, kite surfing, boating (rental and trips) wind surfing, swimming, fishing (sea and freshwater) etc. There is the IJsselmeer, many Friesian lakes (such as the Slotermeer) and the Waddensea. There are many small beaches, beautiful coast line (for beach walks) and lovely people. There are fantastic forests, nature parks and there is nearly always 'something to do', like a market, pole jumping competition, a local fair etc. From a cultural point of view there are musea and exhibitions. The entrance of the building of the accommodation is intended to be a gallery and each year an exposition is hoped to be had of art by the guests. Unique for the area are the 'walks in the sea', the center of this is about 50 miles from the house, but very worth while the trip. One can combine it with a visit to one of the Dutch islands; one might spot some seals as well. Horse and wagon trips are quite abundantly available (nearest by in Kousum), as are many facilities for children; many playgrounds, swimming pools, sailing or kite surfing schools, pettings (small children's farms as they are called where one can stroke and hold the animals). Some beaches of the IJsselmeer, due to their location, catch very strong winds, so kiting is excellent here. If you like bird watching; there are many elsewhere not very common birds; like storks, herons, lapwings and birds of prey. From a culinary point of view; there are quite a few restaurants, especially in Stavoren, which is reasonably tourist orientated. All sorts; Dutch menu, fish restaurants, Chinese (or Chinese Indonesian), pizza etc. Of each about 5 - 10 in a 5 - 10 or 15 km radius. Especially for children the pancake houses are a real treat; very tasty and they usually come with so many fun things to do (big playground, cornfield maze, trampoline etc). A day trip to Amsterdam is very easy. One can opt - if going by public transport - to take the boat to Enkhuizen, and from there by train to Amsterdam! The bulb fields in spring can also easily be done as a day out. A quite large office of the Tourist information is 5 minutes from the house, and here all information can be found and bookings can be done. Also on the website of this Holiday rental one can purchase local information in advance.
