Excellent Value!

This cabin was perfect for our group of 3 fisherman. We were looking for a comfortable place to sleep and shower. We did not need a place to cook meals. The cabin was clean and comfortable. We were not able to fish the Kenai due to abnormally high water levels. For larger groups, or for groups that wanted to cook their own meals, I would recommend the log cabin on the same property.

It's A Big Tough Shed

  • 4 of 5

If you're looking to go up on a budget then this is your place! If you're looking for a fully finished "Hilton" type stay I would recommend elsewhere. The location is really remote but really quite beautiful. Easy access to fishing on the river with a cleaning station and several fishing platforms. You can wade also (it's illegal to fish from the bank on the Kenai). The cabin seems quite a bit bigger than the pictures indicate. Wonderfully peaceful.

I slept on all the beds just to see how they were. The double was just fine, a little soft. The bunk-beds were interesting but I seemed to sleep just as well on those also. Extra blankets and pillows. Plenty of towels. Two dressers. The cabin has a heat stove and there is wood available from a side-building. They have installed a new mini-fridge that held quite a bit of stuff and the freezer worked well. A new 32" flat-panel tv with DirecTV and dvd player. Plenty of shelves with some books and a few dvd's. There's a kitchen table, dishes, flatware, coffee cups, coffee maker, electric griddle, toaster, microwave, and various kitchen gadgets/sundries. Plenty of electricity for any electrical items you might bring. Can't speak for any mobile carriers other than Verizon but it worked just fine and my mobile hotspot was good but only of mediocre speed.

Pros & Cons

Pros: Affordability, Wildlife (eagles, moose, caribou, porcupine, bear), Fishing Access, Clean, Comfortable, Large Shower with new hot water heater, and all the above mentioned items.

Cons: Remoteness (:25 minutes to town. There is a liquor and sundries store about 5 miles from the cabin), No Kitchen (no sink either, must wash dishes in bathroom sink), Unfinished floor, Windows in cabin do not open (gets stuffy, if you leave the front door open it's "mosquito city"), View in front of cabin is a view of the back of the "real" cabin on the property, Grill needs replacing, Could use a hotplate and pans (I left a frying pan), No outdoor folding chairs (would be nice to have to take down to the river), No cooler (I left a nice one), Shower curtain is only divider between crapper an the rest of cabin...same with shower area, Needs a fan for air circulation.

*** Safety Issue *** There is a piece of roofing material on the floor used as a heat shield for the heat-stove. It has sharp edges and is easily tripped over. Use the carpet runner to lay over the edges or you're likely to lose a toe.

Overall a neat little place to stay.

Rustic cabin

  • 4 of 5

My family and I really enjoyed this cute little cabin. It was easily located and very private. The direct tv didnt work but that just meant quality time with family instead of veggin out on tv programs. lots of wild life around and plenty to explore. The cabin was easy to clean but needs a dust pan, and you cant run the microwave and the griddle at the same time. It would have been nice to have a hot plate to cook with as well, but we made things work just fine. Couldn't use north side dock at all, and the grass made it hard to fish from the other docks, kept losing our lures in the twigs and grass close to the banks. Stairs were really slippery after rain,so be careful and three steps were broken/cracked in the middle. We are definitely planning on visiting again. My family had a blast in this rustic cabin, it was well worth the trip to alaska!
