If you're like us, you love the ocean, the mountains, and everything in between. Our home is close to all the activities we love, but far enough away to unwind and enjoy our quiet evenings.
Mendy purchased this apartment in 1992
I have lived on the Big Island for most of my life. I have raised two children here. We love our island and love sharing it with visitors from all over the world.
Where you stay on vacation shouldn't be the most expensive part of your vacation. Our family loves to travel and we have always traveled on a budget. Vacation rentals are the best way to get the best value for your dollar.
Nice place to stay... all the needed appliances, clean washroom, free wi-fi, very close to everything. I would recommend Kaya cafeteria in 2 minutes.
This quiet apartment was a pleasant refuge from the intensity of the Kona coast. There's lots to do around there and it's great to have such a comfortable lodging.
It's not luxurious, but it is clean and the kitchen is well-stocked. Mendy and Tiger were helpful and friendly.
We live on the Hilo side of Hawaii but like to visit Kona. This place works well for us. It's close to shopping but well away from the hotel traffic. The full kitchen allows us to make a few meals making our stay more affordable. It's very pleasant eating on the lanai watching the birds. We really appricate that we can bring our kitty with us. We probably would not go to Kona if we had to put the kitty in a kennel. Overall the place is very clean and nicely furnished, nothing fancy but very affordable.
With a full kitchen and access to the owner's washer and dryer, my girlfriend and I found this ground floor suite to be a convenient base camp for exploring the Island. It was always comfortable temperature-wise and was very quiet and private. It's a short drive to some of the Island's best snorkeling sites (Kahalu'u to the north and Kealakekua to the south), and is close to the Keauhou shopping center, which is home to a KTA supermarket, Long's Drugs and various restaurants.
The owner is friendly and respectful of her tenants' privacy - we saw her only twice over our 10 night stay. Her dog and cat are very friendly ambassadors for the property. The suite was well stocked with towels, bedding and toilet paper, but could have done with a good cleaning and some basic maintenance; the window sills and light covers were strewn with dead bugs, the window screens were filthy and in some cases broken, the tile floor was dirty, and the toilet bowl leaked water for our entire stay - even though we alerted the owner to this, who assured us she would have it taken care of ASAP. Also, had to empty the dehumidifier's water tank the first night, as the machine was full and therefore issuing an alert to such.
Overall a pretty good value for the money, but in need of some TLC.
Rented for 15 nights Mar - April 2014
Listing and photos accurate
Easy to find with EMailed directions
Covered parking ( with a flashlight for the steps in case you arrive late )
Well equipped and supplied, both Bathroom and Kitchen. Nearly everything we needed to use except our actual food was already there, much better than some we have rented !
Bedroom and Bathroom nicely fixed up
Comfortable bed, we slept well. Quiet at night
Little noise from upstairs
Fan in bedroom window was sufficient ventilation - never got too hot
Good and fast WiFi. When DVD player failed, it was replaced very quickly
Nice private Lanai with comfortable chairs ( but see below )
Has cooler, beach chairs, umbrella, boogie board and two sets of fins.
Both the owners dog and cat are nice.
All rooms except Kitchen were clean, the Kitchen mostly OK.
Apt can not be locked up ( we could live with this - have solid suitcases we locked stuff in, and there was no problem )
There is a noisy / yappy dog at the neighbors. It was often quiet for hours, but at other times became very tiresome. Generally quiet at night. This is obviously not under the control of the owner of this rental.
Coffee shop 1 block away. Convenience store and gas stn. 2 blocks
Choices market 6 miles south, Safeway and Walmart 7 miles north
About mid way between the Kona Beaches and the ones at Napoopoo and Two Steps.
If you like snorkeling, Two Steps is best - ask for directions, or Google it
If the cons don't concern you, we are sure you will be satisfied with this apt.
We loved our stay in Honalo. The place had everything we needed and more. It was nice and quiet, but still close enough to everything. Great place to stay in when you want to explore the west side of the Island. It is really close to downtown Kailua-Kona and some of the best snorkeling spots on the Island.
Really enjoyed the Lanai were we had our breakfast every morning, and watched the birds surrounding us.
Great plus to be able to use washer and dryer.
Mendy was nice and helpful and respected our privacy.
Thank you, We would love to come back
Stay in the quiet, cool elevation of Honalo, close to downtown Kailua-Kona, the best snorkeling and Scuba, Kayaking, Horseback riding, sunbathing, live theater, movie theaters, and more
