We have lived in the Atlanta area and the North Georgia mountains for all of our twenty three years of married life. We are natives of the Virginia/DC area and North Georgia. We love our North Georgia mountain home, but love to travel and get away.
Cathy Cox-Brakefield purchased this condo in 2008
We began travelling to the Georgia coast at least once a year for business about fifteen years ago. We love the island ambience and the rich history of the area. St. Simons has an abundance of restaurants and activities without all the traffic and hassle of other beach areas. We found our condo and fell in love after looking at many properties all over the island. We love the golf courses at Sea Palms and just walking in the quiet Sea Palms neighborhood. We can also bike to restaurants or the beach with ease on the island trail system.
While other condos might be a bit closer to the beach, we find that the quiet and privacy of our neighborhood outweighs the proximity. We can easily drive to the beach or the Pier Village (or bike) but can come home to our lovely private home looking out into the trees instead of onto the property next door. The Sea Palms West course is conveniently adjacent to the neighborhood, with a walkable and beautiful nine-hole layout. The Sea Palms Fitness Center, a pool, and tennis courts are just across the parking lot. Just across Frederica Road is the main Sea Palms Resort and Conference Center, where a bar, restaurant, pool, and eighteen-hole golf course are located. The ruins of Fort Fredrica and the beautiful Christ Church are just up the road, for history buffs and explorers. Day trips to the other Georgia Coastal islands are highly recommended, especially Jekyll Island, just a short drive away, where you can visit the Millionaires Cottages built by American tycoons in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century as winter getaways. Jekyll also offers abundant golf on public courses and beautiful public beaches, along with a sea turtle exhibit and a water park. You may never want to leave!
We were pleased with our accommodations and Cathy was very accommodating with my last minute plans! Thank you.
This getaway location was FANTASTIC! This allowed us to have a feel of "home" while on vacation. We used this trip mainly for fishing, but the location was close enough for our wives to go shopping downtown. I would highly recommend this location to anyone.
Excellent location and the owners are very attentive and genuinely nice people. Property is well situated on the Northern side of the Saint Simon's Island hubbub area but still so close that biking to the island centers (Village at the Pier, Redfern Center, Harris Teeter (very upscale grocery and much more) is easily accomplished and even a shorter car ride away.
Condo is in a very quiet neighborhood, close to golf course and very close to the biking trails. Neighbors are very friendly and not all that strict/rigid about "so called condo restrictions" (such as parking, bike storage, pets, trailer and motor cycle parking, etc.)
While there are numerous eating and partying places on the island, two stand out for us. Barbara Jeans restaurant in the Village at the Pier has excellent food (large quantities and top quality and the crab cakes are the best on the island). The Catch 228 restaurant/bar at Redfern Center has the best raw oysters (and some excellent baked oysters as well) on the Island. During happy hour the price of the raw oysters is outstanding.
Condo has a fairly well-stocked kitchen (dishes, pots and pans, etc.) and lots of towels, linens, etc. The kitchen items are inexpensive basic items but still quite functional for basic cooking.
Off the Condo's back-side sun room is a nice deck with a seating for at least 10 people. The deck looks out onto a nicely private area of majestic trees, ferns, Azaleas, vines and birds and squirrels. A wonderful place to relax with a glass of champagne or wine after a day of enjoying the island life.
We spent 4+ weeks in this unit from early March 2015 through early April 2015. We abandoned the Florida coast (we are "snowbirders") due to Spring Break issues (cost and # of young party oriented people). The locals say Saint Simon's Island has a spring break season but from what we saw, it is so much more tame than Florida and so easily dealt with by we old timers. I wouldn't be the least bit concerned about "typical spring break" issues if you were thinking about venturing to the island in the early spring.
My spouse and I would readily return to the island and this particular property. We had a great time.
the condo was great for our holidays we spent days at my daughters and we went back to sleep and had coffee in morning this condo was near every thing .the bedrooms were great being on different sides of condo. and private. pull out couch was handy for grandchildren to stay if need. place a little musty but lite some candles and worked out . the water was hot for showers and the heat and air worked when needed would stay again
Fort Frederica and Christ Church (both heavily influenced by John Wesley, the founder of Methodism) are within minutes of our condo. East Beach is a short drive away with an abudance of sports rentals and excursions both on the ocean side of the island and in the marshes on the inland side. Jekyll Island, the private winter retreat of American's millionaire families such as the Cranes, Goodyears, and Rockefellers, is a short drive away and worth a visit. The view from the bridge to Jekyll of the marshes and islands is spectacular.
