We live in Woodstock, VT and spend as much time as we can in Wellfleet. Amy grew up on the Cape and Chris visited the Cape for most of his life as a Surf Fisherman. Chris is a Veterinarian in Woodstock and Amy works for Ibex Outdoor Clothing nearby.
While on the Cape we love to fish, kayak, bike, windsurf, walk our dog, or simply beach it. Please feel free to ask if you have any interest in these activities. We can offer some great trips/tours for you.
Amy Legate purchased this house in 2011
This house is our escape. It is a life long dream to live in Wellfleet. That is why we call it The New Era.
We bought this house as it was so different from all the others we looked at. It's new, quiet and relaxing. The backyard is a Wildlife Sanctuary that will always be wild. The location is close to everything we could need or want.
Drinking coffee and viewing the emerald green of the marsh is our favorite morning pastime. The open floor plan and large sun-lit windows make for a comfortable atmosphere to relax and unwind. The gas fireplace in the living room is a perfect touch for cool evenings. The master bedroom suite offers complete privacy with a sunny tree top view. Outdoor flower gardens around the patio stem from our Vermont gardens, offering a peaceful outdoor sanctuary.
The property is beautifully decorated, and has just about everything you could ever need. We drove down to the Wellfleet Market to get food for the week(a little pricy, bring food with you from home if you want to save a little money). The house is pretty well equipped with spices, oils, and condiments. Everything is very clean with all new appliances.
My boyfriend and I very much enjoyed the little get-away. We are in love with Marconi beach. It is just a 3 mile bike ride away. (bring a bike lock and helmets) The beach is incredible. Very sandy, great waves, and huge sand bars during low tide. The house is also very close to the Cape Cod Rail Trail. A great bike trail that runs for 22 miles.
We went to Van Rensselaer's Restaurant one night for dinner which was very good, and if you arrive early(between 4:00 - 5:30) they have early bird specials. For breakfast, I would highly recommend the french bakery, PB Boulangerie Bistro. They have the most amazing croissants ever!
Would definitely recommend this house to other couples, no matter what age, and families with older children. One tip: it can sleep 6 but 6 adults would be a little cramped. 2 couples would be comfortable here. The sun room has a pullout couch with a sliding door that becomes the second bedroom and the couch in the living room is also a fold out.
Thank you Amy for the wonderful vacation!
My family and I felt right at home in this extremely clean, comfortable, modern and well-appointed home. The scenery surrounding this home is peaceful and beautiful with lots of trees and marsh. We would definately rent this home again for future Cape Cod vacations.
We rented for the week of July 4th and loved this house. We were welcomed by a warm note from the owners along with a bottle of wine. It's an incredibly peaceful setting that looks out onto the marshland estuaries adjacent to the Audubon. The home was clean, comfortable, nicely decorated, and well-appointed with everything we could have possibly needed for a great vacation - including central air (It was hot!). You can tell the owners put a lot of love and care into building and maintaining it. Gorgeous gardens. Just an all around great house.
We absolutely LOVE everything about this home. Not only is it charming, beautifully decorated (with local art), well stocked and extremely well maintained, it's also in a great location! Just minutes from the Audubon Sanctuary, where we spent our mornings exploring the beautiful trails (after first grabbing a croissant and espresso at the local french bakery - the Boulangerie!). Next, access to the rail-trail is just a short distance away through a little neighborhood, adding yet another bonus as we easily got in a daily morning bike tour of the beaches, fresh water ponds as well as the town of Wellfleet on our road bikes from the house without really going on Route 6. The house is also in a lovely neighborhood of its own which afforded us some lovely evening walks not to mention the beautiful late afternoon cocktail hour overlooking the marshes from the back of the house. Another favorite or ours is the outdoor shower.....I an incredible view and openess will make you never want to shower indoors again! We have been coming to the Cape for more than 20 years and typically have rented in Truro, but we're hooked on this spot as it gives us everything we need and want plus so much more. The little den (which has its own door) can be used as an extra guest space (has a pull out sofa) plus the sofa in the living room is also pull-out (if you don't mind being really close to everybody it works just fine) and there is everything you need to cook up that fresh Sea Bass you might catch surf casting any one of the many great fishing spots in Wellfleet. Thank you Chris and Amy for making your dream home available to us. We will be back soon!
This home was fantastic and met our needs perfectly. The home is small, but it was just right for my husband and I and accommodated our needs and wants perfectly. First off, lets talk location. The home is located in a very nice, quiet, well maintained neighborhood with a blend of year round residents and vacation homes. There are neighbors on either side, but there is a natural fencing providing you with ample privacy. The home is no more than a .5 mile off the main drag, but you don't hear traffic at all. You are so close to the National Seashore, and within a short 10 minute drive to "downtown" Wellfleet. At the entrance to the neighborhood there is also a BBQ joint, with really good BBQ! And, the backyard provides direct access to the water for great bird watching, as it's adjacent to the Bird Sanctuary.
The home itself is immaculate - not only the grounds, but the interior. Brand new stainless steel appliances and granite counter tops, all the luxuries of home including a coffee and cappuccino maker, microwave and outdoor grilling. A very nice touch is the dishes, silver, pots and pans, serving dishes are as nice as you would have in your own home, so you don't feel like you're in a rental. A small water closet on the first floor and a full bath on the second floor. No bathtub, so if you're traveling with little ones, keep this in mind. BUT, the bathroom also has a washer and dryer which was extremely convenient and double sinks. The first floor is all hard wood floor and offers clean and comfortable living, with one large room for kitchen, dining and living room. There is an enclosed three season room, with it's own entrance, that can easily accommodate another couple, or children as the loveseat folds out to a double bed. This room is particular beautiful as it has windows on three sides; it's the place to enjoy your morning coffee and the sunrise. There is an outside patio and when we were there a hammock to while away in during the afternoon to catch a quick siesta before dinner.
We chose September for our destination and we had fabulous weather, everything was open, yet none of the crowds.
This house is a winner. Enjoy your vacation! We can't wait to go back!
My wife and I spent a week in paradise on Cape Cod!
First of all, the location is fantastic, in that you can walk to several great restaurants, and it's only a bike ride to several National Seashore beaches. A short drive in the car brings you to many more of both. Even though it's only 1/2 a mile from Route 6, you can't hear anything but the birds around the tidal creek in the back yard. Hop into one of the provided kayaks and go to explore it! For more fun, you can take the 20 minute trip to historic Provincetown and all it has to offer. Fabulous restaurants, great shopping, as well as some very interesting people! There was no time in the week we were there that we were lacking for something to do.
The house is well appointed and comfortable. The kitchen has all of the amenities that you would have in your own home, and the option of taking a shower outdoors is a huge benefit especially coming from the beach.
All in all it was an A++ experience that we plan to do every summer from now on. We managed to get to stay there shortly after it was first offered for rent, but I suggest that as more people experience the paradise that we did, it's bound to fill up the schedule quickly!
Our home is located on Cape Cod Bay and the Fresh Brook Estuary in South Wellfleet just 1 mile from the Cape Cod National Seashore (Marconi and Coast Guard Beach). Wildlife and nature abound in our backyard, the Mass Audobon's Wellfleet Wildlife Sanctuary.
The property provides easy access to the Cape Rail Trail from which you can ride south to Dennis or to any place in Wellfleet without driving on Busy Rte 6. Bay and Oceanside beaches including remote Great Island are nearby. Many fresh water lakes and ponds are a short car or bike ride away. Deep sea fish from a local harbor or fish from the shores for seasonal favorites like Stripped Bass and Bluefish. Whether Kayaking or SUP boarding in the backyard or simply strolling the beaches for sea shells, this house offers it all.
The proximity to Rte 6 allows easy access to many nearby activities without the crowds. The Wellfleet Drive-In & Movie theater is 1 mile from the house. Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater is just up the street. Museums, shopping, fine art galleries, and antique shops are found in Wellfleet and just south a few miles in Eastham. Indoor rock climbing and mini-golf can be found just down the street.
Restaurants within a few miles include American fare, fine French dining and bakery (PB Boulangerie Bistro), BBQ, clam shacks, Thai, and a fresh fish market.
Sitting in the back yard among our flowers watching the Blue Herons or riding a bike to your favorite Wellfleet destination offers the perfect opportunity to escape the summer crowds and relax.
