Salle McDaniel purchased this condo in 2005

Why Salle McDaniel chose Minneapolis

I fell in love with this buildings classic and quality 'bones' I bought it in 2005 and spent the next three years transforming back to it's former state of grace with a few modern touches.

What makes this condo unique

My clients tell me over and over that I have 'hit the nail on the head with the restful, comfortable decor. This will be way more homelike than a hotel and quiet. Plus it has a fully equipped kitchen and is pet friendly.

Nice Apartment with a few caveots

  • 4 of 5
We stayed in two of Salle's apartments for the better part of 3 weeks with our two children. Overall the experience was good. The apartment is very nice and convenient. The street itself if nice as well but there are parts of the neighborhood that can be a bit hit-or-miss.

We also had some issue with the air conditioning. The bedroom unit worked but was so loud it was very hard to sleep and the living room unit was pushing out hot air. Salle was very responsive (generally and to my email about this) but recommended we consult the instruction booklet since it was a new unit. All was in order but luckily the weather cooled down so we did not have to try the unit again. On the one very hot day we were there the place was uncomfortably warm.

So my review is overall positive but I would agree that the air conditioner is not fully functioning.

Great Place!

  • 4 of 5
Great place to stay. Photos were accurate. Neighbors in building were quiet. We felt safe. We enjoyed having the use of the kitchen and a garage. Owner was helpful in answering our questions.
Easy access into the city. Nice restaurants within 14 min. of driving. We recommend Barbette on Lake Street.

2 Bedroom, 2nd Floor Apartment

  • 4 of 5
We came to MInnesota for a long wedding weekend at the Edgehill Farm in Henderson MN, which was fantastic! After the wedding festivities wrapped, we came up to Minneapolis and stayed at this apartment for 2 nights. We didn't have too much time to explore the neighborhood which looked safe and pleasant. My friends and I enjoyed our stay, and think the apartment itself was pretty nice. I would have liked to have found an extra set of sheets because one of us wanted to sleep on the futon the first night (we used the cotton blankets we found in the linen cupboard). If I were going to stay longer I would want to take along odds and ends of useful things like: scissors, scotch tape, pens, pencils, books, playing cards, etc.. A larger capacity coffee maker would have been useful to us (all 4 of us are big coffee drinkers), and more than 1 ice cube tray could be handy. 2 more (than the 4 we found) dining chairs would be nice too. I had the darndest time opening the front door, but I think it was my failure to operate the key and keypad correctly. I probably shouldn't have rented this particular apartment simply because one of us is somewhat disabled, and she would have benefited by being on a 1st floor, but she did make it up and down okay. If navigating stairs is a problem, this might not be the apartment for you. The apartment was clean. The parking area behind the building was convenient. I'm glad to see that recycling is encouraged. Enjoyed great food at Marla's Caribbean Cuisine (medium-hot curried goat...yum), the Northbound Smokehouse & Brewpub, Colossal Cafe, and Longfellow Grill. We visited Lock and Dam #1, and got to see the lock in action. We saw a flock of wild turkeys foraging near the Lock & Dam #1. We visited the Midtown Global Market, a unique gift shop, CorAzoN, and the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. All in all a great but too brief couple of days in Minneapolis. This apartment was a comfortable place to rest our heads.

Great experience

  • 4 of 5
We stayed at the unit for about four weeks while in Minneapolis. Salle has been responsive and pleasant and always ready to help. The apartment is just as advertised with all the amenities an individual of a family could ask for, spacious, clean and in great condition. Pretty design, too. Only down side is that it's in a half-basement level and therefore darker and less well ventilated than we would have liked. As for location - Target, Wallgreens etc. are within reasonable walking distance/short drive; the neighborhood itself isn't grand but felt safe and clean. Neighbors seemed friendly. Altogether it was a very positive experience and we would definitely rent again.

We made the trip out to Minneapolis for the major surgery of my young child. On spending just 4 days prior to her surgery, we found that this property would not be conducive to my daughters recovery once she got out of the hospital. The online information states there is air conditioning, however it should state that this is a portable unit & only cools the area right in front of the stream of air that comes out of the unit, which is about 2 feet in front. Also the noise from that unit does not allow one to have proper rest, or to hear anything going on around you such as someone talking to you or the TV. A second portable a/c unit was installed during our stay, since the condo always stayed over 85 degrees & was completely miserable, & that one fell out the window! When booking this condo, the owner was very responsive & it was almost immediately she would respond, however when it came time to moving in & the week that we stayed there she was very difficult to communicate with regarding the issues we were having. The maintenance man who was supposed to come fix some things stopped by at almost 10pm at night, when we all had to be up at 4am the next day for surgery. This was extremely unprofessional. Also I guess when the property is rented from tenant to tenant it is not always thoroughly cleaned. When we used the oven it would smoke from the previous spills not cleaned. The smoke would fill the condo but the alarm, that is nearby, never went off, because it was just hanging off the wall by wires and not properly installed. Also the towels that were provided to us to use were old, dirty, and badly bleached (not presentable at all). From the time we got there the attic door was open with a ladder out. This was not only unsightly but dangerous! The bathtub at this rental was a little hard for adults to get in much less children & it felt very slippery...so you must be extremely careful! This rental was not in a very safe or well kept location of Minneapolis. The building is very old & run down also. Doing laundry there I would have to wipe down the machines with clorox wipes before because they were so dirty. This condo is advertised for 6 people but it is a small 1 bedroom, that will not fit that many comfortably(maybe 4) . There are maybe 20 channels to watch on TV also when it is advertised as satellite. We rented this condo for a month but we were so uncomfortable and miserable staying here that we could only handle a week!!!

Owner's Response: Please read my other reviews. The space was as advertised in location and amenities. I responded same day to this client's concerns. My marketing does not claim to have central Air. The brand new portable AC unit ( portable means it does not sit in the window but on the floor) provided in this unit is the same as the AC provided in other furnished units. I have had no other complaint. I have been renting these units for 3-4 years. I had an additional AC unit installed in the unit. This new unit may have become unstable if it was bumped or the window in which it was installed was opened. I had the person that installed it return that same day and correct the installation. I also made arrangements to have my handy man come by to reattach the smoke detector that had been removed from wall but was still connected. He was also going to investigate a problem with the range. I let the clients know when to expect him and they did not inform me that the timing would not work. I have to strenuously object to the claim that this building is in disrepair. I fully renovated the building 7 years ago. Each unit has new Pella windows, new plumbing, new heat, new kitchens with currently styled cabinets and finishes. The bathtub is a claw foot and recently refinished. It is as slippery as any bathtub. The radiators were all stripped and refinished. The floors redone and gorgeous. The walls of the is unit were painted with in the last year. All the furnishings including the supposedly terrible towels are less than a year old. The furnishings are from Crate and Barrel, West Elm and the linens are of high quality. This building is located in is urban and diverse, perhaps this was outside the clients comfort range. I have an onsite manager and the common area are cleaned weekly and the yard maintained. I was informed me they were leaving the unit about two weeks before their stay was over. I asked them if they would like me to rebook the unit so that I could refund them so of their money. I was told they would like to keep the unit available for other family members. A week later they let me know they would not be using the unit any more. I was asked for a refund. I stated I would be sticking to my payment and refund polices which states that I will refund any dates I can rebook on cancellations. I was not able to rebook. I understand that the client was under a lot of stress. I allowed them to shorten their stay by several weeks before their arrival without penalty.
