We are retired business professionals who have owned this property since 1992. Leanna is originally from Iowa and has lived in Northern California since 1969. Alec grew up in Sarasota, FL, lived and worked many places in the US, and finally landed in Northern California in 1986. We were very fortunate to have our work take us to Prague, Czech Republic, where we lived for almost 5 years. We also have a specialty travel agency which mainly handles wine club cruises. We love to travel, hike, enjoy the local wines and fresh food, and are happy to recommend places to visit or eat, depending on what your preferences are. Alec has also been making organic wine with three other partners and would be happy to share some of his wine and answer your questions about amateur winemaking.
Leanna and Alec purchased this cottage in 1992
We love Italy and have found Sonoma Valley to be the closest place to Italy in the US. Out favorite winery is VJB Winery and Cellars, owned by an Italian family who have lived in the Valley for 50 years. Although our property is not Italian in its architectural style, when you look out over the Valley, you might just think you are inItaly!!
Although we are not 'crack of dawn' people, we do love waking up to a sky of reds and oranges coming over the hills of the Kunde Vineyards, or watching the amazing shifts of color as the sun sets near Sonoma Mountain. Each day is a special treat. We also feel blessed to be so near three amazing State Parks with incredible trails of varying challenges. There is much respect for the environment here, and we feel so fortunate to live here.
Casa Bella Vista sits above the beautiful Sonoma Valley of the Moon, with panoramic views of vineyards, Sonoma Mountain and The East Bay hills. There are two trail heads into the 5000 acre Annadel State Park within 1 mile, with world class mountain biking and hiking. Two other state parks and two regional parks are within 10 minutes driving time. There are 17 wine tasting rooms/wineries within 5 miles and 4 terrific restaurants within 4 miles. There are two eighteen hole public golf courses 5 minutes away. Sonoma, with its varied and interesting shops, art museum, additional wine tasting rooms and much more, is 18 miles away. The Sonoma Coast, including Bodega Bay, Dillon Beach and Jenner, is about an hour away. Other well-known wine areas, Dry Creek, Russian River and Alexander Valley are 45 minutes to 1 hour away.
