DESCRIPTION OF THE APARTMENT
You access the apartment through the front door of the castle, small-paned white French double doors, which open onto an entry lobby where the mailboxes are located. There is a second glass door which is always locked for the privacy and security of the inhabitants. Once inside, a stunning wooden staircase leads to the second floor, where you will find a smaller staircase that leads to the apartment on the third floor. This used to be the back stairway for the staff.
The apartment consists of four main rooms. Off the corridor, there is a living room on the left-hand side with a sitting/sleeping area as well as an eating area. Right in front of the apartment door, there is a small kitchen with totally new appliances and a fold-away table. On the right-hand side, there is a bedroom with a king-size bed and a bathroom with a brand-new shower, a sink and a toilet. The bathroom is accessible from the bedroom AND from the corridor, making it very convenient.
The park and lawn of the château can provide you with quiet, private walks. It takes about 20 minutes to walk around the park following the walking paths. There is an eating/picnic area located at the rear of the building near the château’s orchard in the shade of large trees, reserved just for residents and you are welcome to have breakfast, lunch or dinner there. There is a romantic table and chairs, as well as lounge chairs you can use to sunbathe in peace and quiet, away from anyone’s view. Two picnic baskets are ready to use in the kitchen to carry your eating utensils, food and drinks.
THE VILLAGE NEARBY
If you take the grassy path running through the trees at the entrance of the park, it is easy to go and buy croissants, pains au chocolat and French baguettes directly at the nearby bakery, which is within a 5 minute walk. There is everything close at hand: a restaurant (next door to the bakery, on the other side of the street), and a few steps further a small SPAR supermarket, a butcher, a pharmacy, a gas station, a hairdresser, a stationary, a gift shop and a post office.

Mrs Sylvie GOUCHET
We are both language teachers born in France. Olivier is crazy about Germanic languages and teaches German in a preparatory school in Orléans, which serves students who want to pursue post-secondary studies focused on business and humanities. Sylvie teaches English in a preparatory school in Orléans for students who want to pursue a degree in business. We have travelled around the world and have discovered many different countries, and we love Scandinavia, Germany and the United States. Our children are globetrotters too, our daughter lives in Berlin, our elder son in Norway and our youngest son is still at home.
We live not very far from the Château de la Bretauche, in the forest of Orléans where we have a log cabin home. We live with our four cats and our two Norwegian fjord ponies. See the picture attached.
We bought this property because we fell in love with the place !! We have always had many friends at the house in the summer, and we had always planned to have a second home for our friends from around the world, as well as for our children to come and visit for longer periods of time. We would like you to feel like our friends in the apartment in La Bretauche, like our guests!! This is why we have taken such care in renovating and preparing the apartment—just for you.
The Château de la Bretauche was built at the beginning of the 18th century. It was first the dwelling place of Daniel-François Legrande de Melleray, the councellor and intendent of finance for the Duke of Orléans during the Regency period. Later on, up until the late 70s, it became a nunnery where nuns spent a life of seclusion together with a vow of silence. The place, however, retains none of these austere features, but shares the beautiful appearance of a soothing and restful spot.
As you arrive, you have a breathtaking view of the 18th century castle as you pass the hedge and enter the private park. It makes you feel as if you are in the middle of the history of France. In the apartment, we have tried to recreate a peaceful and comfortable atmosphere to give every visitor the feel of French culture, with classical furniture along with the comfort of a modern kitchen and bathroom. A view from the apartment windows (3rd floor) provides yet another visual pleasure, looking out over the front of the park and the grand entrance to the castle. The windows flood the apartment with light and in the summer the rays of the evening sun invade the rooms. While it is sunny and filled with light, the apartment is not too warm as the insulation above the apartment provides ample shelter in the summer. During your stay, we hope to surprise you with plenty of little details and surprises, as we truly want to make your stay at Château de la Bretauche an outstanding and exceptional part of your vacation.
