My husband and I met in Boone while attending Appalachian State. The winter right after college, we decided to buy a house together while we figured out what our next step was. Just days after we closed on the house, my husband got orders to deploy to Kuwait. I spent the whole next year putting my heart and soul into remodeling the house into a home. It was a perfect welcome home gift when he came back that fall.

Less than a year later, his job uprooted us and we decided to keep our home and use it as a vacation home. Thus, the Drifting Leaf Lodge was born. As a military family, we are constantly on the move and only make it back to the lodge periodically. The rest of the time, we want to share our special home with others.

Stephanie Sales purchased this lodge in 2011

We purchased this home because we grew so fond of this area while attending Appalachian State. Boone is one of the most fun places I have been. An inviting small town but still plenty to do, Boone is perfect for explorers like ourselves. The lodge is also only two minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway which is where we fell in love. We would grab lunch and go on scenic drives or hikes in between (or during) classes. The Parkway is a wondrous place and we wanted that to be our back yard!

The most unique aspect of the lodge is that almost everything is handcrafted or made by us. From the paintings on the walls, to the headboards, and even the quilts, our home has personal touches you won't find anywhere else!

  • 5 of 5
Escaping Atlanta, we found drifting leaf lodge to be very accommodating, clean, and super cozy. Lovely decorating touches gives the cabin a warm feel, it was perfect for our family of four. Had a great time and cool weather in July. Comfy beds and towels. Thank you. Looking forward to our return.

PERFECT PLACE FOR A GETAWAY!

  • 5 of 5
Staying at the Drifting Leaf Lodge was a fantastic experience!! From the well equipped kitchen and cozy den, to the beautiful decor and cozy bedding it was the perfect place to stay. We stayed here while on a ski trip and it was very close to the Appalachian Ski Mountain and Boone while still offering privacy and a secluded feel. The owners did a great job of making us feel at home and answered any of the questions we had. Would absolutely recommend this cabin to anyone and can't wait to go back!!!

FOOTBALL WEEKEND

  • 4 of 5
We came up from Savannah, Georgia for the annual Georgia Southern/Appalachian State game and enjoyed the lodge very much. The lodge is modest from the outside, but the inside could not be more well-appointed. The is little home is like a crafters showcase - lots of rustic nic-nacs, features and details. You might think you're staying at Martha Stewart's first mountain home. It has just the right amount of decor without being cluttered, and it truly looks exactly as in the pictures. Very clean, tidy, and 'home'-y. The owners were very helpful and provided multiple tips on how to enjoy our stay. The property location is just few miles outside of Boone. We may well stay again when we return in 2 years for the next game.

FALL VISIT

  • 5 of 5
Very well appointed cabin, with up to date furnishings. The beds were very comfortable as was the rest of the house. We didn't try the "torture chamber" aka the keep fit room, we will leave that to younger persons, but a nice extra if you like that sort of thing.
Easy access, close to the Parkway and all the sights and hiking that you could want. The booking process was very efficient as was the response to any queries to the owners.
All in all a good stay. Thanks
