My husband and I bought this property 10 years ago after living in New Paltz, NY for many years. We wanted to escape the 'hustle and bustle' and found this property away from it all. It included a restaurant/bar and the love shack. The fact that the 'love shack' came with it's name added to its personality. After the restaurant and house felt complete, we set our sights on the love shack and wanted it to resemble its fabulous name.
We fell in love instantly with the serene atmosphere and the property's potential. We have spent the last 10 years tastefully remodeling the property. Our goal was to keep it's rustic charm but also bring it up to date.
Diane and Peter purchased this cabin in 2003
It is a peaceful retreat only 2 hours away from the city. Nestled in the mountains, it is the ultimate relaxing get away from the intoxicating worries of everyday life. True pleasures are to be found while escaping to the country, whether for a couple of days or a proper restorative holiday.
The love shack is nestled near a fabulous restaurant and tavern. So if you are in the mood to go out, you are footsteps away from great meal, a glass of wine and great company. Or you can stay in and cozy up to the fire or watch the sunset from the porch.
Caretakers live in the Inn behind the love shack. It is assumed that you are here to get away from it all, but someone is here in case you need assistance.
Had a great time at The Love Shack. Cabin was cozy and beautifully decorated. Diane and Pete were super friendly and made us pastries. The pond and woods around the cabin were lovely. 10/10 would visit again.
The cabin is in pristine condition and decorated tastefully with old wooden beams across the high ceiling, a gas burning stove and comfy couches. We loved making French toast in the cozy and superbly clean kitchen with a country style sink, mason jars and windows looking out to the hills on the property. We rented snow shoes from EMS in Gardiner by mohonk preserve for the weekend (I highly recommend millbrook ridge trail in mohonk preserve for snow shoeing) and took a walk across the pond behind the cabin. We spent lazy afternoons reading by the gas stove. And the cabin is close to Phoenicia diner, great for lunch and stop by ashokan reservoir for a walk on the way back! The cabin has great heat and very hot showers - important when it's -10 degrees out! And last night we checked out the country inn which is on the property for dinner - wonderful family vibe, delicious food and the best beer selection I have seen in a long time. Diane has been very helpful and accommodating to us. Just a wonderful experience all around!
Great place!! The love shack was very comfortable, welcoming, and over all a really wonderful experience! Diane and Pete were very accommodating and obviously take great care of the place. Close to all local trekking paths and trails. The town has plenty of local farms, wineries so you can take advantage of the very neat and full kitchen. Dinners and breakfast on the porch overlooking the lake was my favorite part! Plenty of local restaurants if you chose to eat out. What a cozy place! I will definitely return.
This was our second weekend at The Love Shack and each stay is better than the last. Peter the owner makes you feel immediately welcome, while his attention to detail makes The Shack feel like a home from home. The cabin is truly delightful and is so quiet and cosy we have spent a couple of afternoons snoozing on the sofa in front of the fire. There is a beautiful view of the lake where you can watch the local wildlife and just next door is The Country Inn with great food, wines and beers, just in case you don't feel like cooking in the well equipped kitchen. Diane bakes a mean cake and on each of our stays we were greeted with delicious fresh scones, with honey butter, and a home baked chocolate brownie that we ate in one sitting!
We're looking forward to our next stay :)
My boyfriend and I stayed at this place for two nights and the place exceeded our expectations! The place was immaculately clean and the owner, Pete, was extremely courteous and was respectful of our privacy. The most striking aspect about this cabin was that everything about it was decorated in good taste: from the gorgeous natural wood beams which the Pete said he built himself! to the gorgeous fireplace and the careful selection of furniture. Even the dishes and coffee creamer jar were special and carefully selected. My boyfriend and I just kept noticing the amazing details and care with which everything in this cabin was selected. The love shack is located in a quiet area and you will have all the privacy you need. It is also near many hiking trails which my boyfriend and I enjoyed exploring. I would definitely come back to the Love Shack again. Thanks so much Pete for being such a lovely host!
