This contemporary house/villa is in a quiet residential area in the centre of Reykjavík built in 2002 and designed by its architect owner. The part being rented out is a detached, i.e. separate guest house. The villa is located within 70 meters from the seafront and only 15 minutes walk from the old town of Reykjavik where you will find The National Theatre, the main museums, art galleries, cinemas, coffee houses, restaurants, bars and the main shopping streets. The center (Miðbær) is a 3 min bus ride away from the house but the bus stop is within 2 min walking distance from the house. There are also bikes on the premises for guests to use free of charge. The guest house is 76 m2 and has just been refurbished. The house has free internet connections and television. The house is ideal for a couple or a family of four. The location offers fantastic walking and cycling routes along the sea front. Within 15 minutes walk away there is a geothermal heated beach as well as swimming pools. Free parking outside of the house and cleaning, linen and towels are included in the price.
The owners, David K. Pitt and Gudrun Edda Thorhannesdottir both studied in the UK. David is an architect and Gudrun Edda is a film producer. Both are in their mid fifties and they have three children.
Gudrun Edda Thorhannesdottir purchased this house in 2002
This is a lovely and quiet apartment - although near the regional airport (max. 5 flights a day). Very modern style and a cosy bed, the kitchen is fully equipped, the bathroom is small but even has a washing machine. Gudrun and David are great hosts who even gave us their bicycles for riding into town which is a 15 min walk or a 5 min ride. The sea is very near, so joggers are happy to run along the seaside. We will choose this place when returning to Reykjavik. Thanks.
A few steps from the sea, this cottage is cozy and easy to relax in. We like walking and enjoyed our jaunts into the heart of Reykjavik (lively, fun, great little city) in about 25 minutes. Our hosts, Gudrun and David, also provided us with bikes (easy to bike for food shopping) and, really, made our stay feel more like we were visiting old friends than renting from people we'd never met. If you like to tour bus option (rather than driving on your own), the buses come and pick you up/drop you off right at the cottage. It couldn't be more convenient. And we recommend Geotours... loved our drive. Great place to stay for couple or family!!! Thanks Gudrun & David... and please let us know if you make over to Amsterdam! Would love to see you here!
My family and I (3 of us) stayed for 6 nights. We toured Reykjavik, the golden circle and as far along the south coast as Vik. The space is a very clean, modern and practical apartment (David, one of the owners is an architect and he designed it). It is a little away from the centre of Reykjavik (nothing is really far) but about a 3 minute walk to the ocean. We enjoyed it thoroughly. Gudrun and David were very accommodating to us. We found Iceland in general to be very relaxed and quiet. This place was that.
It has a large bed in the master bedroom and a day bed in the living space. There is sofa and chairs in the sitting area and a small patio. The kitchen is fairly spacious and functional.
Located in the best neighborhood of Reykjavik just a few seconds walk from the oceans side, this excellent and modern styled studio provides all the comfort you need. From open-kitchen and washing machine to your own little terrace. All very clever and easily furnished. It was a great place where you could easily feel at home.
The studio's manager is always approachable for all your questions, very helpful and friendly.
The reykjavik City center is 15 minutes by foot and takes you around 3 to 5 minutes by taxi.
The nearest grocery store is about 6 minutes walk. And if you want to relax after a long day you can visit the swimming pool's which are very close by.
I am very satisfied with my stay and all the service provided from the owner.
I will surely recommand this property to friends!
I stayed at this guesthouse for 3 months. I was extremely happy with the place. The location is fantastic; less than a 2 minute walk to the ocean and walking/biking trails, and an easy 25 minute walk past the University of Iceland to the heart of downtown Reykjavik. The neighborhood is quiet and safe, and public transit is nearby.
The guesthouse itself is a lovely place, with all necessary amenities. It is in excellent condition, nicely decorated, and very clean. A variety of books and a few DVDs and CDs are available, which was a nice touch, as is the availability of cable TV and wireless internet.
For about 3 weeks out of the 3 months I was there, 4 other adults also stayed in the guesthouse. We found that, though we did not all have separate rooms, there was enough space to sleep us all comfortably. It would also be ideal for a family with children.
The owners are very friendly and wonderful to deal with, and I found the rent to be very reasonable. I would most definitely stay here again, and would highly recommend this guesthouse to anyone I knew looking for a place to stay in Reykjavik.
