Guestbook comments from the manager

Colonial House. was spacious and very comfortable.

Location in the Historic District of Cusco was convenient, within easy walking distance of the large and eclectic San Pedro Central Market , the main square, Plaza de Armas and other tourist sites.

The manager, Benjamin, who lives next door, a math professor and professional musician , was friendly and helpful. The beds were comfortable and the rooms nicely decorated. The kitchen was well equipped and the washer/dryer came in handy.

The large woodburning fireplace was a plus on cooler nights.

The available breakfast, including tamales Cusquenas, were tasty.

Maps and plenty of tourist info were provided.

Being in the Historic District, we quickly felt we were part of a vibrant community.

This was a great choice for us and we hope to return.

Beautiful Apartment in a Beautiful City

  • 5 of 5
This apartment is spacious and beautiful; Marita, the owner, was very gracious and arranged a city tour and a tour of the Sacred Valley that included a home made lunch at her home. That lunch may have been the best of the many great meals we had in Peru. We were greeted at the airport by Carina, the housekeeper, who communicated with us quite effectively considering we were six monolingual English speakers - she does much better with English than I do with Spanish! During the week we were at the apartment, we experienced some problems - the downstairs toilet was out-of-order, the hot water propane tanks went out, the city water was shut off at night, the street outside the apartment is narrow and can be dangerous - but thankfully Carina helped resolve the things she could control in an expeditious fashion and helped us to negotiate and manage the things - like the narrow street - that she couldn't control. Carina helped us with shopping and wonderful breakfasts, the apartment is close to San Pedro market, the furnishings are wonderful and rich in Peruvian tradition. Cuzco should be on everybody's bucket list and if you come to Cuzco I don't think there's a better place to stay.

Great base for our party of 9

  • 4 of 5
Beautiful, well appointed house. Owners and caretaker helpful and friendly. We traveled as 2 families during our visit and the house was perfect for the 5 kids in our group, ages 10-18.
The owners and/or caretaker were quick to respond or resolve anything we needed.
The house is a great base for sightseeing all over Cusco and environs.

Only detraction is the nighttime noise in the area namely, dogs and the train.

Awesome!!

  • 5 of 5
Our group of 7 stayed here while acclimating before hiking the Inca trail (and one night after). The location was excellent and within easy walking distance of many of the areas of interest in Cusco. Marita was great in setting up airport shuttles both ways and a trip to the Sacred Valley for us. She also has a helper that owns a shop down the street and would bring us fresh bread, eggs and avaocado in the morning to make our breakfast. The home is in great shape and we would definitely recommend to anyone spending a few days in the area!

Why would anyone stay in a hotel?

  • 5 of 5
We were absolutely impressed with the Colonial House. It is an oasis in the lively city of Cusco. We felt well cared for by Karina (the manager) and Marita (the owner). The apartment is centrally located which made site seeing a pleasure. Marita arranged tours for us which were exactly what we were looking for. Karina's daughter, Angela, and her friends showed our 19 yo daughter around the town and helped her improve her Spanish--a highlight of the trip for her. The apartment itself is beautiful and well appointed. The pictures here really don't do it justice. Be aware that there is no heat except that provided by a wood burning fireplace--but that seemed to be the norm in Cusco and was not a negative for us as we had plenty of warm blankets on the bed. The front street is quite narrow but that is part of the neighborhood's charm. All in all this is an excellent place to stay in Cusco for much less than the cost of a hotel room. Highly recommended.

Marita could not have been a more hands on owner. Her pride of ownership was evident with her spacious, beautiful home. Marita went the extra mile making sure that we were taken care of. Thank you for the very positive experience

Lovely home! Great Location!

  • 5 of 5
Our stay in Cusco was fabulous! The house was perfect for our needs. We were three couples and had plenty of room. We loved the living room, dining room, loft and kitchen. Everything was as described. The caretaker, Karina, took great care of us. When we got there, Karina made coca tea for us, had fresh fruit waiting and made us feel right at home. She checked in every day to make sure we had what we needed. In addition, she arranged transportation and a city tour for us. Although she spoke little English, we got by with my little Spanish. We knew if we needed anything we could call her. We thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Karina and her adorable daughter Audrianna as well. While the house is on a narrow, busy street, the proximity to the Plaza and San Pedro market was worth it. Thanks for making us feel well cared for and at home!
