Good Decision, great location!!
Colonial House. was spacious and very comfortable.
Location in the Historic District of Cusco was convenient, within easy walking distance of the large and eclectic San Pedro Central Market , the main square, Plaza de Armas and other tourist sites.
The manager, Benjamin, who lives next door, a math professor and professional musician , was friendly and helpful. The beds were comfortable and the rooms nicely decorated. The kitchen was well equipped and the washer/dryer came in handy.
The large woodburning fireplace was a plus on cooler nights.
The available breakfast, including tamales Cusquenas, were tasty.
Maps and plenty of tourist info were provided.
Being in the Historic District, we quickly felt we were part of a vibrant community.
This was a great choice for us and we hope to return.
What a great vacation experience. The house was well kept, large, and a easy walk to the center of Cusco. Our hosts were very helpful in setting up tours, making recomendations, transportation, and any addressing any details that needed.
We normally rent homes, and this was one of the best rentals experiences that we have had. The management has been careful to pay attention to all the details that are needed for a memorable vacation.
With the thousands of tourists going through Cusco each day as it is the only gateway to Machu Pichu and all that that entails, one could easily pass in and out, stay in a 4-5 star hotel and miss the authentic life that has existed in this town for centuries. At Colonial House, nestled in a back street just around the corner from Plaza St Pedro with its unique market place and a 10-minute walk from Plaza de Armas, life is as authentically Peruvian as it can get. The owners Geoff and Marita have mixed old world with new to create a home-away-from-home for all who stay. Three spacious bedrooms and 3 modern bathrooms with lots of skylights (and beautiful sky views both night and day) on the upper floor, as well as a fireplace and sitting area for if ever it becomes cool, were perfect refuge for us after our days wandering the streets of Cusco and later in the week when we returned from our trek through the Sacred Valley and Machu Pichu. Upstairs and down, the decor is Peruvian - the support beams and immense wood dining room table, the balconies overlooking the narrow street below, the big comfortable sofas strewn with local blankets and cushions, cacti plants and an enormous kitchen with an eat-in table/counter. In the kitchen were all the basics we needed, including cookbooks, which allowed us to experiment with the delicious and even exotic foods we picked up at the market on nights we decided to eat in. Carina, Marita's assistant who lives down the street and runs a laundry, welcomed us and later in the week washed our hiking clothes in a day so that we could go home with clean clothes. Marita was always a phone call away if we had questions and offered lots of recommendations for great restaurants and spots to go that the guide books miss. Later in the week, she took us to one of her favourite ceviche restaurants - amazing!!! We will certainly recommend the Colonial House to all we know. In fact, Marita showed us the downstairs apartment that she just had remodelled for groups of 1-3 (upstairs can accommodate up to 8) and we have friends who are hoping to stay there in a few weeks.
Very good location. House is complete. We had some minor issues but overall an excelent experience and will recommend it.
Enjoyed the stay very much. Karina the caretaker was absolutely and abundantly generous with us. The location was perfect. One could walk to the San Pedro market, a panaderia, a farmacia, a restaurant, and Plaza de las Armas easily. Catching a bus or taxi from this location was also a snap. The only thing I would like to see different would be lighter weight blankets. We weren't use to extremely heavy blankets. Space heaters in the living room and bedrooms would be nice. For Cusco does get chilly at night.
This apartment is spacious and beautiful; Marita, the owner, was very gracious and arranged a city tour and a tour of the Sacred Valley that included a home made lunch at her home. That lunch may have been the best of the many great meals we had in Peru. We were greeted at the airport by Carina, the housekeeper, who communicated with us quite effectively considering we were six monolingual English speakers - she does much better with English than I do with Spanish! During the week we were at the apartment, we experienced some problems - the downstairs toilet was out-of-order, the hot water propane tanks went out, the city water was shut off at night, the street outside the apartment is narrow and can be dangerous - but thankfully Carina helped resolve the things she could control in an expeditious fashion and helped us to negotiate and manage the things - like the narrow street - that she couldn't control. Carina helped us with shopping and wonderful breakfasts, the apartment is close to San Pedro market, the furnishings are wonderful and rich in Peruvian tradition. Cuzco should be on everybody's bucket list and if you come to Cuzco I don't think there's a better place to stay.
Beautiful, well appointed house. Owners and caretaker helpful and friendly. We traveled as 2 families during our visit and the house was perfect for the 5 kids in our group, ages 10-18.
The owners and/or caretaker were quick to respond or resolve anything we needed.
The house is a great base for sightseeing all over Cusco and environs.
Only detraction is the nighttime noise in the area namely, dogs and the train.
