Excellent home base

Our party of 6 throughly enjoyed our 5 day in Cuzco while using this house as our base for
for exploring the city, Sacred Valley and Macchu Picchu.
The authentic Peruvian decor and proximity to the old city was fantastic. Great restaurtants, and bars, San Pedto Market and Plaza des Armes all within 15 min walk.
Only drawback was the very buzy narrow street that the house is on. With the large buses making there way into the old city it made for some challenging moments, particularly when exiting the house onto to the street. Also, with a party of six a greater stock of toilet paper would have been appreciated. Would definetly recommend this property.

We were highly satisfied with our stay at the Colonial House. This home provided our family with everything we needed for our stay. The location was walking distance to the town square area and grocery store. Geoff and Marita were so helpful with setting up the tours we wanted to take and Hanni was there if we needed anything.

An Oasis in Cuzco

We are a frequent VRBO and vacation home trading couple with adult children. We like taking work vacations where we can use internet to telecommute from abroad.

Pros
(1) This place was much better than any place we could find in Lima at the same price.
(1a) The general spaciousness of the place is welcome from Lima which has a tendency for narrow apartments.
(2) We were easily able to get to Plaza De Armas (many good modern restaurants) in under 10-15 minutes walking and the Orion supermarket in 7-8 minutes. Starbucks is right in the middle of Plaza De Armas which is a welcome respite for anyone in Peru more than a week.
(3) There are several little stores nearby to buy creature comforts.
(4) For the owners, this is clearly a labor of love.
(5) When a minor flaw appeared in one part of the stay or another, the owner was very responsive to our concerns (within a day). The owner's staff was very responsive as best they could.
(6) The owner supplied us contact information for a driver during the stay (extra cost) who was very helpful throughout.
(7) We found it comparable to many places we have stayed at in the US in terms of ambience and the owner's thoroughness and welcome to my home attitude.
(8) The WiFi was better than what we had in Lima which was awesome for two telecommuting workers (one using a secure tunneling technology) with a video playing adult child and another constantly streaming child.
(9) We were able to make it to Sacred Valley in about 1.5-2 hours which saved us a lot of money since rentals for comparable properties there were about 3-4 times as expensive.

Cons (mostly Cuzco specific)
(1) The location is on a very narrow colonial style street (this could be a plus). Wide buses pass by frequently which are a challenge to walk down some times. Which makes the apartment itself an even better respite.
(2) The neighbors were a bit noisy, but again, not noticeable until late night time.

Loved our stay!

My family of 5 used this rental as our home-base for our Peru vacation. It was perfect with easy access to everything in the city. There is a lot of space (more than we really needed). The beds were comfortable and the decor is fabulous. And the water is hot! (we were there in winter).

What made great accommodations even better were the owners. They are fabulous hosts! They made a great trip even better.

Lovely historic home, excellent location, great kitchen, wi-fi

Three of us stayed in the spacious,19th century home, located on a narrow street near the historic center of Cusco for 4 nights. We had already visited the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu, and this was the perfect location from which to explore Cusco. The house is beautifully remodeled, and we appreciated the ambiance of the home and furnishings.

We were greeted warmly by the housekeeper and Marita's niece, after being picked up by Jimmy, the taxi driver, at the Poroy train station. Everyone was helpful and friendly.

We put the kitchen to good use after shopping at the nearby traditional market and Orion supermarket. (Of course, there are plenty of good restaurants nearby, too.) The home is clean, the beds comfortable, and the water hot! We were appreciative of the computer with excellent wi-fi access. Two full bathrooms upstairs, and 1/2 bath on the main floor. The home has a washer (no dryer), but our clothing dried rather quickly on the drying rack.

We had a wonderful time, and we only wish we could have stayed longer. We do hope to return! Thank you.
