Well what a beautiful place to stay. You have certainly thought of everything and so many facilities and equipment. We stayed with three of our grandchildren and they adored it. The swimming pool facilities were super for children and they spent hours in the pool.
The barn inside was spacious and of high quality furnishings .
We visited some lovely places and St Emilion is a must.
We have recommended it to several of our friends and hope to return ourselves.
Thank you KAren for providing such a lovely holiday home , one we certainly will not forget.
Best wishes rise and Ian

Hurrah for Normalment!

  • 5 of 5
We arrived at the barn late on Saturday and the housekeeper across the road was very friendly and helpful to show us around. The barn is very spacious and the kids (teenagers) really got on with the table tennis / swimming pool / boules / and there was plenty of space for cricket in the garden!
All the rooms are spacious and well kept, bathrooms are v. good standard for France (flushing loos) but seriously this is a lovely location, surrounded by vineyards, and we dined around the barbeque each evening, with a couple of trips to St Foy le Grand and Bergerac for wine tasting and meals out. (Do not order anguilettes unless you know what it is first).
Recommend taking a canoe down the Dordogne - that must be a prime reason for visiting this part of France.
We found the hummingbird Hawk Moths and local lizards in the garden fascinating.
Did I mention the heat? we went at the end of July and it was 40degrees plus, thanks goodness the swimming pool is light at night so we could have a midnight swim before bed.
I would strongly recommend booking Normalment for a summer holiday for anyone - beau tout !

Disappointed

  • 3 of 5
Unfortunately our very enjoyable stay at Normallment was spoilt on our return as we felt “short changed” when the Landlord retained the whole deposit! We accidently broke the fridge door handle which was reported to the caretaker immediately & after conducting some research we discovered a replacement Beko fridge door handle would only cost a small amount. We therefore felt it was extremely unfair to retain the full deposit. I would recommend the property but not the Landlord. Be prepared to lose your deposit!

Owner's Response: I would like to respond that I have emailed this guest over a period of time; on several occasions explaining the reason why I have had to make the decision to withhold the Security Deposit of £350.
This guest stayed mid-July 2012.
A new fridge/ freezer has had to be purchased, as the extent of the damage to the fridge handle made it impossible to either repair or replace it.
The Security Deposit has only part contributed to the new fridge/ freezer, as the cost of the new one was greater than the Security Deposit of £350.
I ALSO wish to note that I have NEVER had to retain any part of any other Security Deposit to date..27/09/12

After a 10 hour drive on what turned out to be one of the hottest days for 8 years, (42 degrees) we arrived at the barn. The setting was perfect, no noise peace and quiet. A most relaxing place. There were 7 of us in our party, my hubster and I and our grown up daughters and their partners.

Lots to do in the area, but a car is a must, (take your bikes, if you have them) as the only bike available was a childs bike. We visited Sarlat, Roacamadour, Emeyt, Bergerac (brill restaurant by the indoor market called "Dragonoff" full of locals excellent fixed prix). Did a winery tour in St Emillion at Chateau Soutard, with lots of tasting!!! Beynac is well worth a visit and the caves in Padiac were well worth the drive and early start. A visit to Castillon -La-Bataille is worth it especailly if the battle reinactments are on. (The last place in the area a battle was fought during the 100 years war, for all you history bods) Sadly we missed it, although I had experienced the spectacle myself many years ago. Excellent supermarket in St Foy le Grand, with excellent local salads and sausage, pate's etc and all the normal supermarket stuff. A fab morning market on Saturday morning in the town itself. Some lovely walks in and around the local vinyards all listed in our walking guide books.

The Barn rustic and a little tired in places was adequate for our needs with plenty of living space for us not to get on each others nerves. The bathrooms really need a good refurb, all of us girls had to open the shower doors to shave our legs. The pool was a little grubby but a phone call to Ainsley the pool man on what to do was easy enough, great not having to share it with others. The outdoor space was great, enough patio tables and chairs in different locations depending on what we were doing. It could be a little difficult to cater for a party of 10 as the oven in the kitchen only has 4 rings and a combined oven and grill, but used alongside the bbq we managed ok. Having a dishwasher was great (haven't got one at home) and going home with clean clothes was great, a huge plus as I was back to work the day after our return.

Karen the owner was easy to get hold of and very helpful with a few issues we had before we went, and very prompt to respond to emails and texts.

Would recommend the "barn" and would love to go again in a few years with the grandchildren.

Fantastic Relaxing Holiday

  • 5 of 5
My friend and I had a fantastic holiday for our 2 families here. The house is very spacious and slept both our families comfortably (all the children had plenty of room and were amused with all the facilities). We had enough room to not be on top of each other but the fabulous kitchen/diner brought us all together at meal times. The upstairs reception room is a delight with the high beamed ceiling and separate seating areas, as well as the lovely terrace. It was exactly as described and more!!
The pool is fantastic - heated to a wonderful temperature that even I ventured in on many occasions (something I rarely do). We used the downstairs terrace for BBQ's and had many great fun filled evenings.
The house and grounds are spotlessly clean and the communication and rental was professional and hassle free.
I will definitely be booking again and would highly recommend this property.
There is a lot to do locally but a car is essential. The kids especially enjoyed the go karts, night markets and local restaurants.
