A completely modernized and huge flat-style apartment in a “century” structure in Ottawa’s central Lowertown East neighborhood. The apartment is part of a purpose-built duplex constructed in 1892 in a residential enclave bordered by the bank of the Rideau River (at Wurtemburg St.), St. Patrick St. and Cobourg St. The area is increasingly referred to as Macdonald Gardens because it encompasses the historic Macdonald Gardens Park.

473 Clarence is an extremely walkable location: Parliament Hill, the Central Business District, the University of Ottawa, the historic Byward Market, the National Gallery, DFAIT, DND HQ, Rideau Falls, Rideau Hall and other destinations can easily be reached in less than 30 minutes on foot in any weather.

Transit is also available: major transit routes serving Ottawa and with connections to Gatineau are located on the next corner at Cobourg St. The property has excellent access to the Macdonald-Cartier Intraprovincial Bridge to Gatineau, Highways 5 North and 50 East.

About Allison

I live in the downstairs apartment with my family and I work for the Parliament of Canada. Originally from Vancouver,British Columbia, we moved to Ottawa 10 years ago and love it.

I like to get places on foot and this location is perfect. The downtown CBD is 30 mins of walking. Governor General's and Rideau Falls are 30 mins in the other direction. Byward Market is 15 and New Edinburgh village is 15 the other way.

Why Allison chose Ottawa

We love the neighbourhood. Is is a quiet downtown suburb: close to everything with a mix of families and young professionals. We moved to this property in order to have some 'fun' gutting and renovating an old building.

What makes this apartment unique

This apartment is beautifully laid out with large dining and living rooms as well as three bedrooms nicely spaced out in separate corners of the apartment. The large, private, covered, balcony is a gorgeous place to sit and have a coffee or glass of wine in any weather. There are windows on every side of the house so the light is always streaming in somewhere.

Great Extended Stay

Was there on business for nearly a month.
Allison made sure everything was looked after before and during the stay.
Great cozy place, balcony, electric fire place, full kitchen, washer dryer, huge flat-screen TV.
I had a car and there was a spot for me, plenty of street parking for visitors. If you don't have a car, a bus to get you downtown was a block away, and if you are there on vacation, you can walk to all major attractions in 20 mins. A cab anywhere downtown is maybe 10 bucks, there was a night or two I had to leave the car parked...
Beautifully clean! Milk, bread, eggs, and a bottle of wine left for me. (even a frozen pizza in the freezer, although I never got a chance to eat it...) Plenty of towels and comfy bedding.
Quaint little neighborhood, just beyond the hustle and bustle.
Allison is an owner that cares, and it shows.

Excellent Apartment!!

The apartment was better than advertised. It's a neat old building in the heart of Ottawa. It was very clean and well maintained. It was close to parks and all amenities. I would recommend travelling to nearby Parliament Hill, The war memorial and the Canadian Museum of Nature. You can also stop by the Rideau Centre to do some shopping. The owner was really informative and really helped us out while their city was in a time of crisis. Thanks again.

Well Stocked Apartment

5 adults shared this apt. We managed quite well with 1 bathroom although we were apprehensive at first. The neighborhood is within walking distance of the Parliament buildings and museums, the MarketPlace and restaurants.With an invitation to use anything that we saw, Allison had the refrigerator and pantry so well stocked that we did very little grocery shopping. The tilting floor (the building is old but refurbished) took some getting used to. It was a source of amusement rather than a hindrance. We would not hesitate to stay there again. Thanks, Allison

We very much enjoyed our stay in Ottawa at the vacation rental. The location was great, the apartment was welcoming, and the kitchen was stocked with the essentials. For our family, with two young children, it was especially appreciated that toys and children's ''accessories'' were provided and that both pets and smoking are not permitted.
