About Erik Vandenakker

Peter and Barbara Swanberg, Pomona high school sweethearts..class of 1953, spent many spring breaks known as 'Bal Week', an iconic spring fling in Southern California from 1945- 1955 where So Cal high schoolers gathered at the fun zone for innocent fun and sun. After a serious college football run at Mt Sac and U of O (go Ducks!), the couple married, started a family and became professionals educators (Pete was also a football and wrestling coach) in San Gabriel Valley. This special time at Newport in their youth created a yearning for a beach house of their own. Through hard work and saving, Peter and Barbara fulfilled this dream when they purchased this duplex Property. The family lives on-site in back and rent the charming bungalow in the front. Today, Kim, their youngest, and Erik, her oldest, manage the VRBO rental, with the hope they give their guests the same special coastal memories once shared by Barbara and Peter.

What makes this cottage unique

Exceptional service and hospitality. Let us know if you are celebrating something special, we have created a 'honeymoon suite' for a newlywed couple. It was great fun! We will be happy to arrange for flowers, champagne or anything we can do. If you need a ride from the airport, just ask. If we can manage it, we will. You really do not need a car in Newport Beach.

Best Beach Bungalow

As I am sitting on the front porch of this charming bungalow, I felt compelled to write my review early. My husband and I could not have asked for a better place to stay in Newport Beach. We parked our car the moment we arrived and never felt the need to get back in it. Everything is in walking or biking distance. The beach is a VERY short two blocks/two minute walk away, and the closest beach is amazing and is not overcrowded (as some of the other beaches in the area seemed to be), even on memorial day weekend. The owners are extremely accommodating and provided everything we needed for our stay, from beach towels to bicycles. The pictures barely do the beauty and charm of the place justice. The size of the home is perfection as you have so much more room than a hotel and so much more character, perfect for a romantic and relaxing getaway. We will definitely be back and will not hesitate to recommend this place to our friends and family!

My favorite beach house...

This cottage is the perfect place for a visit to the beach. The location is excellent ... one block from the boardwalk, walking from all restaurants and bars, and two blocks from grocery shopping. The bed is extremely comfortable and the bathroom and kitchen are very clean. The homeowners are really nice and easy to work with... I would recommend this place for anyone!

Everything about this place was done with the comfort of the guests in mind-awesome bed,linens etc. We have stayed here several times and always enjoy ourselves. We don't do anything special-walks, cocktails, games, beach, out to eat-everything is very accessible. Oh and did I say clean-absolutely spotless!

What a fantastic beach house! This beautiful place is located just steps from the beach and all that Newport has to offer. The decor was charming and it was in immaculate condition! My stay was beyond comfortable and I there were even suggestions provided of places to see while vacationing. I would highly recommend staying there and would love to go back!

Great stay in Newport Beach!

I was travelling with three other students and we stayed very comfortably in this cute little beach house. Everything was very clean and tidy. The kitchen and bathroom were well stocked with essentials. We all loved the beachy and inviting decor. The pictures really don't do it justice. It took not even 3 minutes to walk to the beach, and there were some restaurants and convenience stores nearby as well. This would be a wonderful place to stay in for vacation for a week or two, or just stopping through for a few days. I can't wait to visit again.
