For our family, the Sorg House was a very special place to gather for a family celebration. We loved the detail and charm of this elegant Victorian home, and felt we had stepped back into another era. The gracious wrap-around porch, complete with white wicker furniture, created an inviting gathering space for breakfast, lunch, cocktails or a retreat to read a book and sip a cold drink. Bedrooms were beautifully furnished and the layout provided plenty of privacy. A roomy, modern kitchen had ample space for us to cook together. On inclement weather days there were places to make puzzles, read, watch a DVD or play pool. From chairs on the dock, we enjoyed some beautiful sunsets.
In Lakewood Center, a ten minute walk, Scallion Bistro offers great food in a casual atmosphere. Shopping and various activities are minutes away by car. Sail and power boat rentals are close by and easily available.
The lovely historic, residential neighborhood provided a quiet atmosphere away from tourist attractions and a respite from our busy lives. We had a wonderful time.
Wow!!!! Beautiful home and grounds that made our first trek up to Chatauqua so memorable. The house seemed like it was pulled out of Archictectural Digest. So fun just to roam around the house just to check out the details. The kids loved the fishing and running around the expansive home. Felt like we were staying at a family home; for a house so big, the owners made it feel so warm and cozy. Picturesque setting on the lake with the only boathouse in sight. Visit to Panama Rocks was a sleeper hit with the kids (and adults!). Like several other guests have stated, pictures absolutely do not do this home justice. Just lovely. Thank you to the owners for sharing your home. Hope to return soon!
I am in love with this property. Every detail to this home was meticulously taken care of, right down to the ironed sheets. I can't believe that the owners have made such a large rental house seem cozy and warm. I never felt like I was in a rental. The kitchen is a gourmet kitchen and is stocked with everything needed to cook and host a dinner party with. This is the perfect home for a family reunion or a work retreat. Everything is provided, including laundry facilities. I have traveled extensively and this house really is the nicest place I have ever stayed. I am really hoping to come back next year. Trust me when I say no detail is overlooked in this spotless mansion.
This house is fantastic, and it's so convenient to a great little lakeside town!
First, the house: wonderful porch for reading and relaxing, great furnishings, fantastic kitchen to cook for a crowd. Really nice tv rooms, though we didn't actually use them. The lake is wonderful and there's even your own adorable little beach next to a fire pit and hangout area. Great baths wioth clawfooted tubs! Great views from so many of the rooms! Lots of space and lots of character.
The little town: Lakewood is adorable and friendly, with a great coffee shop, pharmacy, book store, home decor store, breakfast place, etc. I have a small baby and one morning he got up really early, so we walked into town and just checked stuff out. It wasn't far, and it was fun shopping and dining and the locals are friendly.
Great place! You won't regret renting it!
This house is amazing. The location is a quiet residential neighborhood. The lot is large and extends all the way to the lake. There is a large firepit in the backyard. The dock was great for swimming and sunbathing, and there is a boathouse with a bathroom connected right to the dock. This home is just absolutely exquisite with three floors of beautiful period furniture and architecture. The gourmet kitchen and bar area were perfect for entertaining our large group and breakfast on the veranda in the morning was refreshing. The neighbors we met on morning walks were all wonderful and very hospitable. Southern Tier brewery is only a few minutes drive away where they have excellent beer and a stones course (combine bocci and golf and that's stones). We had a fabulous time and I can't wait to return!
The house is amazing. The pictures do not do the house justice. It is amazingly spacious and gorgeous both inside and out. We had a large group ~20 people stay and the place still felt big. I don't even think we used the living room since the kitchen, billiard room, outdoor fire pit, and porch, were so wonderful for gathering. Exploring each room was a fun part of the first day there. It was so relaxing to lay on the dock soaking up the sun and enjoying the calm water. They even had a sand beach! Really a great place. We are already talking about going back next year.
Also located within a short drive to Chautauqua Institution, Peek n' Peak and Ellicottville, NY's ski destinations.
