Rebecca and I want your stay to be the most enjoyable the property has to offer. If you find the cleaning is inadequate - we will get the cleaning service back in... If you find the furniture dirty, we will get it cleaned immediately! Just give us a chance to make it so and let it be known to us out of respect for the Cottage and all parties.

Steven & Rebecca Longe purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Steven & Rebecca Longe chose North Hero

We initially purchased this property to get away from all the noise pollution that city life bombards you with. This property offers total peace and quiet for recording. Rebecca enjoys reading books here, bird watching, walking, swimming, and biking. She enjoys the serenity of the location and the whistling of wind through the many mature cedars hence the name Cedarvale Lane! Rebecca and I pictured above.

What makes this cottage unique

* Location of this property on Lake Champlain with its breathtaking panoramic view from inside the living room is absolutely spectacular. Very soothing to listen to the Lake Surf.

* PRIVACY - Private Road and cottage is barley visible through mature Cedars.

* Nature - Deer, Grey Fox, Raccoons, Chipmunks, Red and Grey Squirrels, Waterfowl, Blue Hearings, Loons, Eagles, Osprey, Hawks, King Fishers, Flycatchers, Chickadees, Robins, Cardinals & Nuthatch.

* 100 Feet of Direct Waterfront - 23 Feet from the Deck is a 30' Cliff to the shore.

Amazing time spent at lake cottage

  • 5 of 5
We decided to spend the most important day of our lives at Steven and Rebecca's cottage. It is the most beautiful and tranquil place we've ever been to. The views of the lake will be forever embedded in our memories! The cottage is very clean, well equipped and secluded. We enjoyed riding bikes along scenic Cedarvail lane to a nearby park on the lake. We highly recommend Steven and Rebecca as hosts and can't wait to visit the cottage again!

Owner's Response: Mr & Mrs Zhits became Husband & Wife and had shared their wonderful wedding pictures with us. Rebecca and I were so HONORED to be a part in such a wonderful union. Still we think about how interesting the Cottage has become. Attracting quality educated authentic individuals who are seeking privacy and peacefulness in this corner of Vermont's Historic Champlain Islands!

Great week for my husband and I to leaf peep, hike, and be close to Burlington so I could leave to attend my 40th reunion.
The house was perfect for the two of us. Steve met us with local coffee and gave us a thorough house tour. When the weather cooperates this home has special sunsets! We had a lovely time. Thank you.

Expected more for this price range

  • 3 of 5
My wife, two kids and small dog stayed in this cabin in mid-late August for five days.

Pro's:
Secluded location
Peaceful and quiet
Lake-front location with lovely views
Access to Montreal and Burlington - although note that Montreal is about an hour and a half, not the "less than an hour away" listed with the house description

Con's:
Cramped confines: awkward layout with over-sized LR furniture, small dining area, tiny kitchen, and single bathroom off kitchen. Definitely plan basic meals and don't plan on having any help in the kitchen (and hope no one needs to use the bathroom! :) It was too cold to use the outdoor picnic table at night, and indoor table really only large enough to seat two comfortably
Poorly-equipped kitchen: literally no room for grocery storage, little counter space for food prep, aging kitchen-ware and appliances, missing some basic household items like a cheese grater
No lake access - we were advised not to use only after we arrived due to safety issues. Unfortunately, we rented a stand-up paddle board for the week which we were unable to launch from the house.
Nearby towns lacking - we were hoping for a more active small-town life, but in actuality the towns in the area have depressingly little to offer

Owner's Response: =========================================
Hello!
Thanks for taking the time to write your review! We encourage all renters to give us a review. We take pride in our property and we purchased it in 2012 and have been slowly but surely making many improvements. We have added all new furniture - living room set, dining table, all new beds. We have added sky lights and a new roof. We have spray-foam insulated the basement and have made many other improvements such as building stairs to the lake.
We do show photos of the cottage on VRBO and we list the square footage. It is a small but cozy cottage. We have almost everything you could possibly need in the kitchen. We will purchase a cheese grater to add to the utensil drawer. We encourage prospective renters to ask us more questions and to do more research before booking in North Hero Vermont. There is a stairway to 100 feet of private lake access. Due to algae this year, we cautioned renters about the slippery rocks for safety. All renters have private beach access to the beach in Cedarvale, just down the road and this provided your family with safe stand up paddling access. We are installing a dock in the summer of 2015 and this is very exciting as this has been a goal from the time of purchase!
We were kind enough to allow you and your family to rent for 5 days rather than the mandatory 7 days during peak summer season and we also did not charge you a pet fee as we received multiple inquiries from you and mistakenly missed you were bringing a dog. We checked in with you and your family during your stay and did not hear any negative feedback. Upon learning that the one remote control was missing after your departure, we addressed this with you and you had a very strong response and did not want to pay the $20 for a replacement remote. After the addressing of the missing remote control, complaints started to arise. Thank you for sending the check for the $20 to replace the remote control as it was the responsible thing to do.
Update: I think it would be prudent of VRBO to establish RENTER RATINGS by VRBO Owners. I would not have been as generous to give a 3 star rating in return upon the insulting communications (before review) I received from this individual seeking a partial reimbursement after asking for replacing a missing remote.

Lovely cabin in beautiful seeting

  • 5 of 5
Lovely Cabin in a beautiful setting, with everything you could hope for. Owners could not have been more helpful and responsive. My only problem is that I am allergic to some types of dogs and since the cabin was dog friendly I could not sit on the couch without getting itchy...

Very private cottage on Lake Champlain

  • 4 of 5
The outstanding feature of this property is its proximity to Lake Champlain and the wonderful views it affords particularly at sunset. The owner provided bicycles and helmets which were very useful. The kitchen was also very well stocked. However, my wife complained that the sofa smelled of dog and we were warned by the owner to be careful when sitting on the bench on the deck because it may not hold our weight; similarly the acess to the upstairs bedroom was a little difficult. It would have been great to have a canoe on the property in order to exploit the lake. As it was, we swam and enjoyed ourselves. The Ben and Jerry ice cream factory tour near Waterford is worth visiting and for those interested in catching fish it is worth while paying more to go with the more professional fishermen on Lake Champlaine. We did the short hike to the top of Mount Mansfield, the highest point in Vermont after driving the expensive toll road to the visitors centre which provided very little assistance. Better to do the walk to the pond instead. If you plan to visit the local state parks you should know that they close at 7 pm even in summer. We didn't eat out. For those interested in driving to Canada, Montreal is less than an hours drive away.

Owner's Response: Rebecca and I are happy you enjoyed the beautiful location and its marvelous sunsets! I was fortunate to get you the 3rd bicycle you requested and purchased a new helmet for you to use. I appreciate your feedback. We are a Pet Friendly Cottage and allow dogs. We just had the Furniture Professionally Cleaned before your arrival. And all pet owners that visit must have the furniture covered during their stay. Now that the new Metal Roof and 8 Sky Windows are done, the deck will be getting an upgrade next year. We chose not to provide Kayaks or Canoes for we cannot assume the folks using them are skilled to use them safely.
Sorry you couldn't enjoy the Snow Flake Chocolates we gifted you. Your review highlights the fun things to do in the area and you took the toll road to the top of Mt. Mansfield! We love doing this ourselves and the 360 Degree view is just breathtaking from the top! Ben & Jerry's in Waterbury is a recommended must visit and experience! Thank you Sol and Eve for your review.

Peaceful & Great Views

Peaceful & Great Views
  • 5 of 5
This property was a little piece of heaven. If you are looking for a very private and well cared for property, this one is for you. The lake and mountain views were lovely. The homeowners were very pleasant and showed pride in their property. They allowed us to bring our two dogs who also enjoyed the views from the living room sliders overlooking the lake and watching all the birds, squirrels and bunnies. The private road leading to the private beach was well maintained and level with only a couple of small inclines. My 83 year old mom enjoyed walking with us. You could connect to the old railroad path which meanders thru the woods and along the lakeshore. Great place to bicycle as well.
