I live in San Francisco and Cedar Street is our family estate. This 1880's Georgian was lovingly restored four years ago to serve numerous family relatives while visiting Chicago. We offer our beautiful chic suites when not in town. Walk to Oak Beach, Rush Street nightlife and Magnificent Mile shopping.

My husband and I, and two other couples, shared the downstairs unit. There were two bedrooms and a sleeper couch. Only one bathroom, however, which is not the Owner's fault--it just made it cozy. The Owner was super responsive to all emails, and instructions for entering the building and our private unit were easy (especially w/ the code locks, no keys required). The location could not have been more perfect!! Only a few blocks north of the Hancock building, and less than 1 mile to the main river. Really great place! I would recommend to friends in a heart beat! Thank you!

My group, consisting of 2 couples, were first time travelers to Chicago. We came to town for a basketball tournament. This apartment is in a perfect location. We could walk to everything. Rush street was just around the corner and it was loaded with good places to eat and drink. Apartment was also very clean. The street that the Brownstone was located on was beautiful and quaint. Chicago is truly a unique city with the beauty of Lake Michigan along with all of the advantages of big city living.

Ideal Location

Heart of Rush Street (awesome restaurants & bars galore): 1/2 block. Lake Michigan & beach: 1/2 block. North end of Magnificent Mile: 1.5 blocks. Yet, it is on a very quiet, beautiful, tree-lined residential street which I would presume is one of the highest dollar areas in town. The owner, Michael, was very accommodating and easy to work with. It is an old building, but the unit has been updated reasonably well. I found my bed in the master to be very comfortable with sheets that you would expect in a high end hotel. It has a few minor quirks that can be expected with a building this old. For example, it takes a bit longer than I am accustomed to get the hot water to heat up, and I thought that selecting hot vs. cold water was counterintuitive. However, unless you require the most modern of everything, it isn't a problem and is easily outweighed by the great location & neighborhood. The unit also has charm. The unit is on the 3rd floor and you have to take the stairs to get up there, so if you are in horrible shape or have mobility issues, this might not be your best bet. For anyone else, it's a winner.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the wonderful review. The bed is handcrafted by a local Chicago family owned business for over 80 years, and the sheets are 1600 threadcount. Sorry about the 3rd floor stairs, but the reward is a new granite kitchen, two baths with lemongrass soaps, and the rooftop deck. Looking forward to hosting you again soon.

Nice location

The place was located in a very nice area of the city. Near shopping, beach and wonderful restaurants. My kids ( older teenagers ) loved the city and easy walking distance to shopping and the beach. Almost too close, as they shopped ( on our dime :)) while my wife and I attended a concert. The apartment was nice. A few quirky things that I actually fixed while there. Example: first time I opened closet, in master, the handle pulled through the door. Adjusted the screw so that it would work for the next tenant. Another was that the shower handles, also in the master, were loose kept catching the other door. I simply tightened to fix. Lastly, we stayed on the third floor...very steep and narrow climbing up once you get past the second floor. There wasn't a landing so when you leave the apt. you stare down a pretty imposing drop. Overall I would consider these issues minor. I have used VRBO before and will continue booking through the agency. As for this place? I would recommend any day... primarily on location and curb appeal. I will book here again next time I come to Chicago, as I have done at other VRBO properties, just not on the third floor. Bonus to location... I ran into one of the band members while eating down the street from condo...!
