This is a wonderful relaxing retreat! You have your own private 700 square foot retreat on the first floor of our home. We live in the top floor, so we are on site and available to help you with all of your needs.
*** If you would like to read our reviews on airbnb.com please go to https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/85497. We also have a tipi for rent on airbnb called 'Glamping in the Gorge'
Our retreat will feel like your own private get away in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. The Gorge is a year-round recreational area offering the best of outdoor activities, including camping, hiking, biking, golf, whitewater rafting and kayaking, windsurfing and kiteboarding, boating, bird watching, photography, downhill and cross country skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing – the list is endless. Indoor options are also readily available with world-class museums, wine tasting, superb dining opportunities, shopping, and spa services. There is truly something for everyone in the Columbia River Gorge, and a visit to the area is not complete without a visit to the countless breathtaking waterfalls.
Our home sits on 3 acres with a stream and with territorial views of the Columbia River and the Gorge. Although we are only 1.7 miles away from the quaint town of Stevenson, our retreat is remote because of the lack of neighbors and densely wooded surroundings.
You have your own 700 square foot private suite with private entrance. The suite has a full living room, small sitting room, kitchenette (with hot plate, microwave, grill, coffee maker and toaster), wood stove, bathroom, bedroom and private porch. The laundry room is also available but only after instruction.
Come sit on the porch and enjoy the view of the Columbia River. While you are barbequing you will hear Kanaka Creek running through property only 200 feet away! Walk to the creek with your tea, coffee, wine or beer, and feel free to tour the garden and pick the fruit and veggies.
We have wireless internet, TV for DVDs and instant streaming through Netflix and Amazon. Use our concrete fire pit for s'mores!
The couch pulls into a queen for extra guests. (See $20 charge for extra guests beyond the first two.) As mentioned, Chris and I live upstairs but the two living quarters are distinct. They are separated by a spiral stair case and a door that is routinely locked.
We have two adorably friendly dogs that are not invited into your area without your permission. Dogs and dog lovers welcome! The Retreat in the Gorge is known to motivate artists’ creative juices – whether you are a musician, writer, or painter the Retreat in the Gorge will settle your soul and cultivate your creativity.
We keep the kegerator stocked with our local brewery’s award winning beer. For a small charge, help yourself to a pint, or fill a growler if you are on the go! There is also a grill, a dart board, a bocce set, and badminton. We have books, maps and magazines with suggestions for wine tasting, fruit loop tours, hiking, biking, wind surfing, kite boarding and fishing in the area. Complimentary coffee and tea is available.
Please read the reviews in the guestbook at the retreat, as they speak for themselves! We are very proud of all the positive responses. You will notice that the resounding theme is that those who stay for only one or two nights wished they stayed longer. Be sure to book for as long as you can! We look forward to meeting you.
**Even if our calendar reports that dates are unavailable, email us anyway because scheduling often changes.
**Be sure to read the manual, and especially the driving directions, in advance as the directions are tricky.
** Winter guests: We live at elevation and are located on a hill. Good tires are often important.
Hi! Chris and I have lived in the Gorge for 7 years and in the Portland area for 14. We have been together for 13 years and love helping people discover the gorge. We absolutely love to hike, and recreate in the area. We can direct you to wine tasting, fishing, kite boarding, wind surfing, yoga studios, spas, shopping or hiking. I am a school counselor and Chris is a sales rep.
Our dogs are part of our family and hopefully you will love them as much as we do. We will put up a gate between the two levels so they will only be allowed in your suite when invited in by you. We are looking forward to meeting you!
We love this property because you can rest and relax while looking at the beautiful gardens, the COlumbia river and the high mountain surrounding you or you can go out and do just about any activity you choose. Surfing, kite boarding, hiking, fishing, spa trip, hot springs, out to eat or just stay home and do inspired art.
We are dog friendly and love to meet people. We also are happy to leave you alone. We love the activities in the gorge so you will have a wealth of knowledge and we would love to help in anyway you can.
Visitors can revel in a cornucopia of attractions: the world’s largest concentration of high waterfalls, one of the planet’s most diverse botanical communities, and a wide spectrum of recreational opportunities that includes skiing, fishing, hiking, rock climbing, windsurfing, and kiteboarding—all in the same day.
Immediately south of the Columbia River Gorge rises 11,240-foot Mount Hood, Oregon’s highest peak. Mount Hood is an all-season outdoor playground for all of northern Oregon. Besides skiing at five ski areas, the mountain is popular with hikers, mountain climbers, and we are located in the heart of five national parks for hiking.
If there’s one word to describe the forces that created the Columbia River Gorge, it’s cataclysmic. Volcanic activity, flooding, and landslides have sculpted the present-day contours of this fjord-like chasm between Oregon and Washington. You can see the Columbia River from your porch and take in the sights of the Gorge.
