Galligans Cottage is situated 25 min drive from Limerick city and 45 min from the international airport at Shannon. The immediate area is rural farming land with undulating hills. It is very close to (5 min drive) the beautiful and historical lake at Lough Gur. Lough Gur is the site of one of the oldest inhabited areas in Ireland with many hill forts, ancient dwellings and a giant stone circle. There is a tourist information centre and mini museum here with audio visual explanation of the historical and archaeological importance of the area. It is also an area of great beauty with lake side walks and gentle hill climbing. It is a bird sanctuary and coarse fishing area. The village of Bruff has been described as the friendliest in Co Limerick with restaurants and pubs. A little bit farther away (30 min) drive are the Ballyhoura mountains with its many loop walks and internationally renouned cycle track.1 hour away are the magestic Galtee mountains and scenic glen of Aherlow.
