About Dorothy Mintz

Upon retiring in California where Robert worked for New United Motors Corp. which made the Toyota Tacoma and the Toyota Corolla. We pulled up stakes and moved to our finca here in Orosi Valley. We are still a work in progress as we try to learn a new language and a slower way of life.

Dorothy Mintz purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Dorothy Mintz chose Orosi

Robert and I fell in love with Costa Rica, Finding our property with the River running through it and the tranquility of the water that we both love, the weather here in Orosi stays between 63 degrees and up to 80 degrees year round. Our finca has mostly lemon trees with a few orange trees as well. Fresh orange juice from our own trees is a special treat.

What makes this cottage unique

We remodeled the home that was on this property, our home is a 2 story house the living area on the second floor which puts us high enough to see forever. With the river flowing though the back section of the finca we decided that a cabina by the river would be a great asset and a place for friends and family to stay when they come to visit.

A Great Place To Stay!!!

  • 5 of 5
This was our first visit to Costa Rica – my husband and I were looking for a clean, comfortable, reasonably priced place to stay. WE FOUND IT!!! Dorothy and Bob are wonderful hosts, they are the sweetest people and very knowledgeable about the area. Dorothy loaned us her travel magazine about the area with all kinds of things to do and see.
Everything about the cabana was great especially the wonderfully comfortable bed. Going to sleep each night with the sound of the river is very relaxing. The kitchen is very well equipped, we had everything we needed . One of our favorite things to do was start each day with breakfast on the back porch. It's a beautiful spot.
Then off for the day to explore. My husband likes to take short cuts so I really do mean explore. You never know what's around the next bend in the road.
We truly enjoyed having a secure and private sanctuary to come back to each night.

Thank you Dorothy and Bob we had a great time!!

River Side Tranquility in Orosi

  • 4 of 5
The cabin was very clean and well equipped. Dorothy and Bob were very welcoming and helpful during our stay. The proximity to the river meant that the gushing water could be heard all the time, which was actually quite relaxing. Orosi was a nice little town nearby. We particularly liked Lankester Botanical Gardens especially the lovely Japanese section. The farmers market in Paraiso was interesting, seeing all the farmers selling their goods and seeing some very nice exotic fruit. We also went to an old church in Ajarras, which was set in a beautiful garden. Temerature at night dropped to about 13-14 degrees, good for sleeping.
We would recommend Dorothy and Bobs place to anyone.

Owner's Response: We were happy to have you stay with us. When you say temperature was 13-14 degrees...we need to specify that is Celsius NOT Fahrenheit.

We came to Costa Rica for the first time and found the country and our hosts to be everything we'd hoped for. Bob and Dorothy made us feel right at home and were able to answer all our questions. Private yet close to town. We'll be back!

WONDERFUL WEEK!

  • 5 of 5
We spent a fantastic week in this riverside cabina. The cabina itself has everything you could want. Attention to detail was evident, especially in the thick towels and comfy bedding. Outside we enjoyed the Jacuzzi as well as harvesting fruit from the surrounding orchard for snacks and drinks. Birds and plant life are abundent and a joy. The local people were very friendly and our Coffee Tour was great. It was hard to leave! Thank-you Dorothy and Bob for being such gracious hosts!!

WOW, we enjoyed every minute of our stay.

  • 5 of 5
We really enjoyed this location. The owners were very helpful and friendly. The cabina was cozy and comfortable. The sound of the river outside gently melted all the stress and worries away. We couldn't ask for a better place to spend our vacation.
The landscaping was perfect, and fragrance from the blossoms of the fruit orchard was pleasant.

If you want to a convenient and safe place to stay while your in the central valley, stop here!

PURA VIDA

  • 5 of 5
After spending 5 months traveling Central America, I came down with a nasty bug. Trying to recover in a hotel room in San Jose was next to impossible. That's when I discovered Dorothy and Bob and their little tranquilla cabina nestled in the Orosi valley. The very first email resposnse was quick and inviting. They worked patiently with me as I was trying to sort out our travel plans. When we arrived they were very hospitable and welcomed us with a cool drink. When we were led down the path to the cabina by the river I was so relieved. To say it is cute is an understatement. It has everything you need in regards to dishes and bedding. It's very private and clean and we enjoyed many hours on the deck and in the out door tub just listening to the river. It is a lot cooler in the Orosi Valley so if you are looking for a break from the heat this is the place. We didnt venture out much due to the bug but what we did see was beautiful. The people very friendly and the owners invited us to a lovely easter brunch where we met many of the locals and had a very nice visit. If you are considering the Orosi valley, give Dorothy a dingle first. You won't be disappointed.

The Orosi Valley is a landscape of topical hues. The rainforest of Tapanti and the Alto Cedral Cloud Forest paint a background of various shades of green, teeming with wildlife. Every turn of the road provides a new diversity of colors and terrain. Located south of Cartago, the Orosi Valley is a true jewel. Famous for its beautiful views, colonial churches, coffee farms, white water rivers, hot springs and Lake Cachí, the Orosi Valley and surrounding towns are like a birthday present, waiting to be opened. The small quaint villages offer a unique location where you can relax and enjoy a real slice of Costa Rican life. During coffee picking season, September through January, the valley comes to life. The pickers can be heard singing and talking in the fields as they pick the worlds best coffee.

It is easy to book activities such as: guided local tours, mountain biking, horse back riding, hiking, water rafting, zip lining, and other interesting activities to keep active during the day.

Orosi Valley Self Guided Tours

The Orosi Valley and surrounding areas have many different tours, which can take up to a week to see all of the local attractions.
