Deer Ridge Vacation Home is a spacious home, custom built in 2003, that is uniquely located on a hill top, with stunning mountain views in all directions. There are long covered decks wrapping around most of the home, with plenty of outdoor seating provided. Additional benches on the property offer breathtaking views of the foothills of the Sierras from their own vantage points. Water features and gardens complement the natural rock formations, a delight for adults and children alike. This 2621 sq. ft. vacation home sits on a 5.6 acre property with plenty of privacy. It has 3 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms, plus a private den with a queen size sleeper couch and sleeps 10 people comfortably. The home is in a very quiet and private rural setting. Relax and listen to the birds and the gentle sounds of two water features as you enjoy the expansive mountain views and sunsets from the decks. The deck is also equipped with a BBQ grill and an outdoor dining table. Deer can often be seen on the property as well as squirrels and many different birds species. This property has a vast variety of bushes and trees, many of which flower in season. Among the hundreds of trees here, there are dozens of beautiful manzanita bushes and trees. Native to the Sierra foothills, the manzanitas are known for their reddish trunks and attractive twisting shapes. They flower in the spring, to the delight of the hummingbirds.

Since Deer Ridge Vacation Home is located 3.8 miles southeast of the town of Mariposa, the west entrance of Yosemite Park is only 36 miles away via Hwy 140, a very scenic route along the Merced River. In Mariposa, a historic gold mining town, you can find out more about its gold mining past as you visit the Mariposa Museum and History Center. Inside the museum is a full sized replica of a mining town with authentic artifacts. Or visit the Mariposa Mining and Mineral Museum where you can explore the variety of California’s mineral wealth, and view breathtaking gems, minerals and precious metals from around the world. The Mariposa County Park offers a swimming pool and tennis courts for some outdoor family fun.

This comfortable home has central forced air heating and air conditioning throughout. The spacious Great Room has a cathedral ceiling with plenty of windows to the view outside. The wood burning fireplace with glass doors, backed by a beautiful stone hearth, provides a cozy ambiance. Sit back and relax on a leather couch, easy chair or recliner, as you visit with your family or friends. Or watch TV or a DVD (from our collection) on the flat screen TV.

The kids can play games, or watch TV or movies on a second flat screen TV in the large private den. The den couch folds out to provide a queen size bed when needed. The den is also furnished with two nightstands (providing clothing storage) and a comfortable easy chair.

The dining room seats 10 people and has a beautiful hardwood floor. The fully equipped adjoining kitchen has a gas stove top, large fridge, quiet dishwasher, large microwave, convection oven, coffee maker, coffee grinder, toaster oven, toaster, blender, crock pot, and all of the other equipment you would expect in a well furnished kitchen at home. We provide spices and cooking oil, coffee filters, and several other necessities so you don't need to buy them yourself. The kitchen has a tiled floor, plenty of oak cabinets, and beautiful tiled counter tops and back splashes. On a bookshelf in the kitchen, close to the sliding glass doors to the deck, you’ll find a display of flyers and books about things to see and do in the area. Next to the kitchen you'll find the laundry room with the large capacity washer and dryer.

The master suite is downstairs and has its own sliding glass door leading to the deck. It features a walk-in closet, a queen size bed, a large chest of drawers, two nightstands and a recliner for reading or just some solitude and relaxation. The adjoining master bathroom has a jetted tub set into a tiled platform in a bay window, offering great views of the surrounding landscaping. The large beautifully tiled shower includes a tiled bench and an oversize shower head. Upstairs, the second bedroom has a queen size bed and an extra long twin bed, a large chest of drawers, a night stand and a desk where you can write post cards or use your electronic devices with the free WIFI we provide. The third bedroom has a queen size bed and another extra-long twin bed, a large chest of drawers and a night stand. The upstairs bathroom has a tub/shower with a glass enclosure.

Items provided at the home: Towels, linens, two hair dryers, Kleenex, toilet paper, paper towels, spices, cooking oil, coffee filters, all items needed to cook and serve your meals, laundry soap, hand soaps, dish washing soap and liquid, and kitchen and trash bags. There is a library of DVDs, CD player with a collection of music CDs, library of books about Yosemite Park, hiking trails and the area, pamphlets/flyers for local attractions and outfitters. Each bathroom is equipped with 4 towel bars, robe hooks, tempered glass shelves and ample cabinet storage for your toiletries.

We have a two vehicle detached carport and there are additional parking spaces in front of the house. Firewood is provided.

More things to see and do in the area:

The west entrance to Yosemite Park is only 36 miles from the vacation home. You’ll enjoy the scenic drive along Hwy 140 bordered by the Merced River. After 18 miles you’ll see the Merced River Recreation Area at Briceburg. It has sandy beaches where you can have a family picnic, or stop to dip into the river on the way back from the park to cool off on a hot summer day. This area is also great for fishing, hiking, and wildlife viewing. For the more adventurous among you, rent a kayak or take a white water rafting trip with one of the commercial rafting companies that provide trips down portions of the river.

Guests can also take Hwy 49 to Hwy 41 to drive through Yosemite's south entrance. This is approx. a 45 mile drive from the vacation home. Traveling in that direction you can visit Bass Lake with its water sports, beaches and restaurants. The historic Sugar Pine Railroad takes guests on a 4-mile adventure through a scenic fir and pine forest. Between March and October, steam engine locomotives traverse original logging railbeds restored from the turn of the century. They also offer gold panning for the entire family.

Another attraction is Sierra Vista Scenic Byway which you don’t want to miss. You’ll see giant sequoia groves, alpine lakes and meadows, rock formations, wildflower fields and some of the most beautiful views of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range.

Mariposa is home to many restaurants, such as Charles Street, Castillo’s Mexican, Savoury’s, Sugar Pine Café, River Rock Inn, and High Country Health Food. You can find everything from gourmet dining, to Thai or Mexican food to the youthful vibe of Happy Burger Diner. Pioneer Market is the local grocery store. It was recently remodeled, is well stocked and it now offers Sushi. You'll also enjoy the local antique shops, gift shops and art galleries, some of which promote local artists. You might want to buy the local newspaper which comes out every Thursday for local events and attractions.

If you are looking for an adventurous vacation in a beautiful natural area, with gorgeous mountain views and easy access to Yosemite Park, you are sure to enjoy your stay at Deer Ridge Vacation Home!

We bought Deer Ridge Vacation Home because the area around Mariposa is so beautiful, offering stunning views of the foothills of the Sierras and so close to Yosemite Park.

Magdalena Beall purchased this house in 2013

This property stood out from other homes because it has been very well maintained and because the 5.6 acre property is wonderfully landscaped with rock formations alternating with gardens. We feel very fortunate to have been able to purchase it and hope you will enjoy it as much as we do.

You will love the peace and quiet as you listen to the birds singing and the wind rustling the leaves of the trees. You will feel yourself relax as you take in the beauty of the panoramic views. You'll come away feeling renewed!

Lovely and really comfortable, well organized home

  • 5 of 5
Dear Bruce and Magdalena,

We really enjoyed your lovely and really comfortable home. Mariposa was charming - we liked the Savory's 1850 restaurant and the Pizza Parlor. Despite the fire and haziness we thoroughly enjoyed Glacier Point, Yosemite Valley, Mirror Lake and Vernal Falls. Your instructions to get up here were excellent. We appreciated how well organized everything in the house is. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us. It made our yearly family reunion memorable. Best regards~

Wonderful vacation home at great central location

  • 5 of 5
Bruce and Magdalena,

Pride in ownership show through and through. So glad that you have decided to share with those who find you. I will pass it on to friends and family. Great central location to everything - Airport, Lakes, Yosemite and Peace and Quiet! We have been using VRBO.com for a few years now, that's where we found you. Look forward to using you for Yellowstone in a couple of years. We go from beach to mountains every other year.

Yosemite is just amazing! Cannot put it to words as I'm sure so many will agree. Probably re-visit in early spring or late fall. Got to try some rafting before I am too old. The driving here is something to get used to. Cranking 50-60 through the twists-n-turns gets some getting used to. I am sure the locals get sick of us tourists clogging up the roads. I don't blame them! Well thank you again for sharing your wonderful piece of America!

Beautiful, spacious home with lots of wildlife

  • 5 of 5
Now that my family has returned from your beautiful vacation home I wanted to say how pleased we were with it. It was an absolutely perfect match for my parents, my sister and her children and my small family. I really appreciated the quality of the home, linens, towels, etc. The bedrooms were a great size - they were just perfect. We also really appreciated the miscellaneous supplies such as tupperware, spices, zip locks in the kitchen that made cooking so easy!

Our boys loved the wildlife … squirrels, wood peckers, deer, humming birds, chipmunks, the (very) friendly cat, the fox and the bobcat were so exciting! (I think the cat and the bobcat were one and the same but my 8 year olds swear they saw it.) We enjoyed many trips to Yosemite and the surrounding activities. We also spent a great deal of time on the porch watching birds who were drinking from the water fountain. It was a really great feature! Thank you again~

Deer Ridge Vacation Home is 36 miles from the entrance to Yosemite Park and only 42 miles from the amazing Yosemite Valley with all of its beautiful mountains, vistas and waterfalls. Scenic Route 140 from Mariposa, running along the Merced River, is the most direct and shortest route to the Yosemite Valley, when compared to the routes from the other major

gateway towns such as Oakhurst and Groveland.

The Merced River also provides opportunities for whitewater and scenic rafting, kayaking, swimming, hiking and picnics. Mariposa is a charming and scenic small town nestled in the foothills of the Sierras. Downtown there are plenty of good restaurants, art galleries, clothing and souvenir shops and banks/ATMs.

The Pioneer Market in Mariposa is a large well-supplied grocery store offering a vast array of wine and food choices, including organic vegetables.

Must-see places in Mariposa include the California State Mining and Mineral Museum, the Mariposa Museum and History Center and the historic Courthouse, built in 1854 and still in use today. Summer tours of the Courthouse begin Memorial day weekend. A large public swimming pool, tennis courts, basketball court and skateboard park are open to the public in the Mariposa County Park, 4 miles from the home. The quiet country roads in the vicinity of the vacation home are perfect for walking and mountain biking. Bicycle rentals are available in the area.
