Cape Haze House Rental Photos and Description

Private Home, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths (Sleeps 6)

The only way to describe this comfortable Cape Haze residence is “quiet seclusion”! With lots of outdoor living space, you will never want to be inside! This tropical gem has a lot to offer. Perched on the bank of Amberjack Creek, this inviting home is surrounded by mature tropical plantings, including more than fifty palms of eight species (which is why I call this place 'El Palmeral' - The Palm Grove). Also, avocado, mango, bananas, bromeliads, orchids and much more.

There is a private dock (equipped with a 3,500 lb. boat lift, water, electricity and an underwater 'snook' light). Our dock is on Amberjack Creek, a tidal inlet, which provides shallow-draft access to the Gulf of Mexico (boats which draw in excess of 16 inches are not recommended for the creek, however, there are inexpensive slip rentals within 4 minutes of the property at Gasparilla Pass for larger boats). The creek abounds with wildlife - fish from the dock or watch for the Sandhill Cranes, Manatees and the throngs of leaping mullet, among others. The dock includes a new 6'x8' floating dock extension which makes launching of the two kayaks a breeze! The kayaks are high-tech, Swedish-designed 'Point 65 North' modular kayaks, which can be configured as one person or tandem kayaks.

The shell-covered back yard ties the creek side-setting seamlessly into the 1,300 square foot screen-enclosed pool and Lanai, for what one visitor described as an 'obnoxiously paradisical' experience. The heated pool, which hovers beside the creek, includes a therapy bench with powerful air/water therapy jets and the 350 square foot lanai can be closed with glass sliders in inclement weather for an uninterrupted outdoor feeling. The house has 4 sets of pocket, double sliding doors, which open onto the pool cage and lanai, further bringing the outdoors inside!

Walk down to the creek-side hammock and disappear for a while with a good book…this home is equipped for relaxation, and is also within walking distance of the local post office, grocery store, bank and pizza parlor!

As members of the Cape Haze POA, we have access to the association's 400 yd long, private, Gulf beach, adjacent to Cape Haze on Don Pedro Island. The beach is accessible, using our kayaks, from Don Pedro Island State Park's 100 acre land base, .9 miles from our property. It is a 4-minute (280 yard) paddle from the Park's dock to our community dock on the island, then a 5-minute (500 yard) walk to the Gulf beach (see the map of the route in the photo section).

In addition to the beaches adjacent to us on Don Pedro (Palm) Island, which are accessible by kayak, boat or ferry, the closest beach by car is at 19th St. on Gasparilla Island (Boca Grande), about 10 minutes away. Once you reach 19th St. there is beach access on every street all the way to the south end of the island, which is another 3 1/2 miles. So there are literally dozens of Gulf beaches. You can also drive north to Manasota Key in Englewood which is only about 15 minutes away. Once on Manasota Key there are three major county park beaches at the north, middle and south end of the Key, as well as Stump Pass State Park, which is at the very south end of the Key and is absolutely stunning.

It is only 4 minutes by car to the Boca Grande Causeway and 20 minutes by boat (at 'no wake' speeds) to Gasparilla Sound & the Gulf from our property's dock on Amberjack Creek. Minutes (1 to 15) away from multiple Gulf beaches, fine-dining restaurants, multiple state parks, nature preserves, walking & biking trails, boat tours, fishing trips, etc.

Each guest is provided with a personalized code for keyless entry valid for the length of their stay. Check-in is 4:00 pm and check-out is 10:00 am. The rental rate includes the cleaning fee. Upon arrival guests are provided with a detailed Guest Manual, describing all of the ins and outs of the property, including entertainment system operation, trash day, local resources and activities, etc. Confirmed guests are provided with their access code and a PDF copy of the manual, by email, in advance of their arrival.

Rental fees for reservations made more than 60 days in advance of your arrival date can be made in 2 or 3 installment payments.

About Richard Haynes

My name is Richard Haynes. I was raised in Virginia, Florida, Maryland and DC during the 50s and 60s. When we were not living in Florida, we still visited annually for vacation and to see family in Sarasota and Fort Pierce (Sarasota's Marie Selby was my great-aunt). Trips to Florida were always the highlight of the year. We started visiting Captiva annually (just after the bridge was built in the mid-60s). However, when Captiva started getting built up, our Mother switched to Boca Grande in the mid-70s, staying at the Gasparilla Inn at first - later buying a 1911 cottage in the historic district. For me, moving back to Florida on a full-time basis has been a dream come true, being a time of renewal and an opportunity to rediscover all of those things I loved about the Gulf coast as a child.

Richard Haynes purchased this house in 2012

Why Richard Haynes chose Cape Haze

Having lived in and visited different parts of Florida, the southwest Gulf coast is my favorite by far. Within that region, the Cape Haze/Lemon Bay/Englewood area is the 'sweet spot' for me. Only 1 hour from all of the resources and activities offered by Sarasota and Fort Myers, it is still a small community with much of the charm of 'Old Florida' that I recall from my youth. The Cape Haze/Placida area is off the beaten path and generally slow paced. Access to beautiful, natural areas and Gulf beaches is exceptional. For me, our house is a refinement of all of those qualities - a self-contained, tropical Florida haven.

We are in the tropical zone of far South Florida, which means that not only all the citrus family can be grown here, but also coconuts, mangos, papaya, bananas, etc., giving the area a truly tropical feeling.

What makes this house unique

This property has an intimate warmth, which is hard to find at any price. The comforts of the back yard with its screened lanai and pool enclosure, multiple seating areas, luxuriant tropical foliage and waterside setting are absolutely seductive. You may come here with the idea of having it be your base-camp and find that it is your destination.

Our stay here was awesome...can't say enough on how much we loved this house.!! There were 8 of us and had plenty of room. The kids basically stayed in the pool from the time they got up until it was bedtime.
All we had to bring with us was our clothes...then just right around the corner was grocery store for food.
The owner Richard was so nice and answered all my questions... he would check with me to see if we needed anything..
Will stay here again when we come back.!!!!

Just Perfect.

My Wife and I stayed at El Palmeral for the first 2 weeks of June. We have stayed at many rental properties in Florida over the past 25 years and this one is without doubt the best in terms of value for money, location and the general quality of the property.
Owner Richard is a very nice guy, he’s very laid back and easy to get along with, while at the same time nothing is too much trouble if you need anything at the property or some advice on where to visit or eat in the area.
The property sits in a great location on Amberjack Creek which is a haven for wildlife of all kinds, we regularly saw Ospreys, Manatees, Gators and birds of all kinds which was important for us. The home is as well equipped as we have seen, Richard does not put cheap stuff in as you are most likely to see in other properties. The beds are very comfortable, every appliance that you might need is there to use, the TV, DVD and sound system are excellent and there is a dock station for iPod/iPhone etc. The pool area is beautiful with a lighting system that looks great at night. The home is very close to a number of great beaches, restaurants and shops, and there is a Publix close enough to walk to. Boca Grande is 5 minutes away and well worth a visit to eat, or use one the beaches.
The home is very tastefully decorated with comfortable furniture and has a sophisticated look to it making it look very “cool” like its owner.
This home is just perfect, and we will certainly be back again as soon as we can. We usually do a week in Orlando and two on the gulf, but we liked it so much, next time we will spend all 3 weeks at Richards home. We cannot imagine finding a better rental home anywhere on the gulf coast for the price. Thanks Richard.

When we viewed this lovely Cape Haze home on the VRBO website, we did not expect the property to look even better than the photographs. The palms, gardens, entrance way and back yard to the dock and river are absolutely beautiful and maticulously maintained. The home's interior is spacious and immaculate, with all the needed electronic and kitchen amenities imaginable. The large lanai and screened pool area create an open and airy outdoor feeling even when inside the bedrooms, sitting and dining areas. Our teenagers loved the pool space and the adults enjoyed the relaxation of the therapy jets after a day of sight seeing or kayaking. The tandem kayaks are a big plus for this rental property. It is easy to access the river via the floating dock, which is on-level with the water. There are endless beautiful "water trails" to paddle through on the kayaks; even to Don Pedro's wildlife island. We viewed dolphins, manatees and tons of fish in our daily travels. For those who like convenience to grocery stores and restaurants, Publix and many other facilities are within walking distance. The bridge to Boca Grande and it's beautiful beaches are within a 10 minute drive. Richard was extremely helpful, courteous and available for any need at a moment's notice. He has proactively equipped his home with any and every need that comes to mind, which saved us a lot of unnecessary trips to the store. For the price, this property is more than reasonable and truly a tropical gem! We are planning on returning again next year for another great, stress-free vacation.Thank you Richard!!!

Amazing vacation house!

  • 5 of 5
We absolutely loved our stay at this house and can't say enough great things about Richard, the owner. We took the kayaks out every day and saw manatees. We also rented the Craig Cat which we would highly recommend - we did a half day trip to Don Pedro State Park. Everything Richard suggested was fantastic, including the pizza at The New Faull Inn (we loved the baked potato pizza). Publix is very close to the house and the beach is a short drive/bike ride away, but the best part is how private this house feels. Richard is the most helpful owner we have encountered through vrbo and if you have a chance to stay here, you will have a great vacation guaranteed!

Perfect vacation home!

  • 5 of 5
Absolutely beautiful home. So comfortable and relaxing. Our first vacation rental by owner experince has me sold. The location and photos are exactly as reported, property was very clean and beautifuly landscaped. The amenities are all in working order and top of the line. Richard was so helpful in helping to answer all questions while booking and throughout our stay. He met us the day after our arrival and gave us a hands on toutorial of the kayak's and the super cool CraigCat boat. He even took our son out on the creek for a individual instruction. Our son ended up being our captain and taking each of us out to the bay, it is very shallow and important to be knowledgable in the GPS navigation system Richard provides. It is a nice cruise down the creek observing the wildlife and homes, there were kayak fishermen in the mangroves. Once out on the bay area we were able to speed up and have a little more fun navigating thru the posted boating areas......there is clearly marked areas to boat so dont be scared. The boat ran great and was fun to kill some time between other activities. Richard is very imformative on the local attractions and activities he gave us some sugestions and we went with it and were not disapointed. We drove to Gasparilla Island/Boca Grande and soaked up the sun on the gorgous beaches. We stoped in for appitizers at PJ's Seagrille which was fantastic. While in Placida we ate twice at the Waterside grill. Listening to live music dock side with a Redfish Ruben sandwhich and a cold beer, dosent get much better than that untill we returned to the comforts of El Palmeral home. The pool was used daily, sitting on the waterside dock watching and listening to the wildlife was my favorite! We were excited to see the large allegator just down the creek (he minded his manners and didnt pay any attention to us). We booked a fishing guide and met up at the Gasparilla Marina which is just a short drive away. Groceries, beer/ice/gas all within a block of the house. It was just so relaxing and comfortable but not boring at all. I will book this rental again!! Thanks so much Richard!!!

We encourage our guests to experience the adventure of visiting our Cape Haze Property Owners Association Gulf beach on Don Pedro Island. Transport our modular kayaks 90 seconds to the land-base of the park by car; use the kayak dolly for the 3 minute walk to the beach; paddle 4 minutes across the bay to the CHPOA dock and walk the 5 minutes along the sandy trail through the sabal palms and seagrapes to our beautiful secluded Gulf beach, adjacent to unspoiled 230 acre Don Pedro Island State park (see map in 'Photos').
