Danza is a two bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment well located in the heart of one of Rome's most loved historic centers. Guests can enjoy walking to many Rome attractions, including the Vatican, the Colosseum, Campo de' Fiori, Piazza Navona, as well as shopping along via Giubonari and via Coronari.
The apartment is on the top floor of a small 1500's apartment building with wonderful views from the rooftop terrace as well as 'Juliet' balconies off the living and dining rooms. The building has a small elevator to the top floor as well as an original feature stairwell. Danza is comfortable and adequately furnished with a casual simple style of decor, but very spacious and well laid out. Another original feature is the lovely painted terracotta floors.
The apartment has an open entry foyer. The large living room is immediately to the left. French doors at the far end enhance the room. From the living room enjoy views of the side of the church and the ever-changing scene down below of this small, inviting street. The living room is casually furnished with a modern sofa bed, an armchair and padded chair, glass coffee table, flat screen TV. It's not fancy, just basic, serviceable furniture good for the vacation renter who wants a sunny, well laid-out, appealing terraced apartment a super-central location. To the right of the living room step into the full dining room, with its wonderful original checkerboard tiles. It's nice that they've been preserved as the add a special touch to the room. The dining table has seating for six.
Retrace your steps back through the living room to find the attractive kitchen off to the right of the foyer. Handsome honed marble counter tops and a large stone farmhouse sink maintain the apartment's authentic character. The kitchen has a small table with seating for two. A large window admits lots of light. There is a full refrigerator, freezer section, 4-burner gas stove, electric oven, dishwasher and washing machine.
Directly ahead off the foyer is the first bedroom. The bedrooms are towards the back of the apartment, facing away from the street, a good feature in a thriving city like Rome where street noise from passersby and motor scooters is a given. Ahead and to the right is the first bedroom with two twin beds and adjoining bathroom. The beds can be joined to form a queen-sized bed. Built-in closets and cupboards line one wall providing lots of storage for clothes, luggage. There is a small window above the beds. The en suite bathroom has a sink, toilet and shower with a shower curtain. The shower is on a raised area, level with the toilet, without any enclosure or lip, there is just the shower curtain, so it can be an adjustment to adapt to this awkward type of 'ship shower' found often in Italian apartments.
The second bedroom has a double bed*, a large window overlooking the quiet back-building area and rooftops. There is an antique dresser and small closet. Just outside this bedroom is the second bathroom with a bathtub, sink, toilet. A small eyebrow window over the tub is a cute feature.
If your interest in the Danza apartment isn't already piqued here comes the best part. The terrace! Straight ahead off the entry foyer is a stairway leading up to a small open office area (who can work with views like these?) which leads out to the enchanting terrace. Imagine starting your day in Rome with a cup of espresso, the sound of seagulls flying overhead and views of Roman rooftops and church domes! Can you figure out the churches for the five domes you can see from the terrace? There is a patio table with seating for four. The canvas awing provides shade. In the evening wander back upstairs for cocktail hour and enjoy the sounds of church bells tolling at sunset or watch waves of tiny swallows swooping and diving through the sky at twilight.
*Italian Double Beds are 56' wide. North American Double sized beds are 54' wide and Queen sized beds are 60'.
Danza apartment is in one of Rome's best-loved historic neighborhoods, Piazza Navona and Campo de' Fiori. Rebuilt in the 18th and 19th century, the Santa Maria in Monticello Church which originated in the 1100's is now home to a French order of priests. Try ringing the bell and ask politely to view the church and you may be given a free private tour. Remember to leave a donation in the offering box for such hospitality to express your appreciation. It can be helpful to speak/understand some French!
