Overview

Puerto Morelos House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms, 3 Baths (Sleeps 6-8)

Sunbathe with privacy on the rooftop terrace and cool down in the newly built pool with its treetop view of the mangrove jungle. Casa Perros Afortunados (House of the Lucky Dogs) is a newly refurbished 2,500 sf private vacation rental house in the quaint fishing village of Puerto Morelos, Q.R., Mexico just 25 minutes from the Cancun airport. A short stroll to the beach or a four minute walk to the restaurants and shops around the town square. The house has three bedrooms and three bathrooms. Two of the bedrooms are identical master suites on the second floor, each with high quality king-sized beds, full bathrooms, and large balconies. The fully-equipped kitchen is large with peninsula seating, and includes a five burner gas stove with griddle. The second floor also features a Media Room with a 47 inch LCD TV with Dish satellite service, DVD / VHS player, an VOIP telephone for free calls to the USA or Canada, and new comfortable lounge seating. The third bedroom, on the main floor, has two twin beds, large windows, a 42 inch plasma TV, and an adjacent full bath. A covered patio overlooks the rear garden and includes an outdoor ping pong table. Enjoy sunsets over the jungle from the pool or the new covered terrace rooftop lounge with Moroccan lighting and wet bar. Stairs up from the roof lead to a large new observation deck, with a stunning 360 degree view. Watch the waves break over the coral reef or the jungle birds over the mangroves. See the sun rise from the Caribbean sea or set into the jungle. Puerto Morelos offers an amazing array of activities: dive or snorkel along the pristine coral reef (a protected national park and part of the world's second largest coral reef), sport fishing in the Caribbean, massages, biking, golfing, beautiful underground cenotes with crystal clear water, or short drives to shopping and nightlife in Cancun or Playa del Carmen.

About Owner / Property Manager

My wife and I relocated to the Yucatan in 2010 from San Francisco, CA. We purchased a 200 year old Spanish colonial home in the historic central district of Merida. While out exploring the peninsula's Mayan ruins, cenotes, and beautiful Caribbean waters for snorkeling we came upon the wonderful and lovely seaside town of Puerto Morelos. We fell in love immediately and bought a 2nd home. After several months of updating and renovations we are ready to invite vacationers to come discover the beauty, tranquility, and adventure of an authentic Mexican experience in this charming fishing village.

Owner / Property Manager purchased this house in 2012

Why Owner / Property Manager chose Puerto Morelos

When searching for our vacation home on the Mayan Riviera, we considered both what we wanted in the location, as well as what we did not want. Of course we needed walking access to the beautiful blue Caribbean water. We also wanted easy access to the Cancun Airport to make it an easy trip for visitors. We wanted an authentic Mexican experience, where you know you're in Mexico, and not surrounded by predictable glass and steel high-rise resorts that could be on a beach anywhere. We wanted a small location with the colorful and interesting experience of having locals as neighbors. Where we could easily walk to cool cafes, restaurants, diving and snorkeling, and local Mayan markets.

What makes this house unique

We found all that and more in Puerto Morelos. A seaside fishing village perched between a stunning reef-protected beach and mangrove jungle, both beautiful features that prevent excessive growth of the town. Yet it's just a 25 minute drive to the Cancun international airport. We soon realized we did not want one of the many condos on the beach. For us, sharing a community pool with nosy strangers and their sometimes less than charming kids wasn't our idea of a tropical paradise. So with privacy as a main objective, we chose a recently built two story house a block and a half off the beach, and just two blocks to the shops and restaurants around the main square. Close enough to stroll easily to either, yet set just far enough away for privacy. Then to enhance the experience, we built up the top of the house, adding a rooftop observation deck with our own large terrace and pool for complete privacy and a 360 degree view that includes the ocean reef, the lighthouse, the coco palm treetops and the mangrove jungle. Inside, we have upgraded the decor, kitchen, WiFi, music systems, etc. to provide modern luxuries. We are proud of what we have accomplished. We love our time here and invite you to enjoy it as well.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had such an amazing time staying in Russ & Leanna's stunning Puerto Morelos home. Everything was perfect: clean, organized and beautifully decorated. In addition, Russ, Leanna & Lucio were very kind and helpful. Thank you both for everything - I hope to stay again one day!

Excellent House and Location

  • 5 of 5
I chose this house based on the pictures and reviews for my honeymoon this summer, and my wife and I absolutely loved it. We knew it was a much larger house than necessary for the two of us, but it's location and rooftop configuration convinced me to go with it. The house is a short walk to the beach, and a few more minutes to the town, where there are plenty of restaurants and shops. There is a fully stocked, large kitchen. The living room and I would take this house any day over larger resorts if you are planning a get away with family or friends, because you get to live on your own schedule!
Russ is very helpful as you plan your trip. He provided all the information I needed for our stay, with information on transportation and the town. His house manager is there for assistance, without being overbearing. I enjoyed my conversations with him.
All in all, we had a great honeymoon. A few helpful tips if interested:
-The ADO bus from the Cancun airport costs half as much as a taxi. Buy a ticket, and it will drop you off at the highway interchange into Puerto Morelos. Take a taxi for about 40-50 pesos to the house.
-There is a bread van that comes around in the evenings, playing silly music and announcing its presence. They offer a huge variety of cheap and delicious bread for 5 pesos each.
-The grocery store off the main town square has all your essential ingredients. We bought mainly breakfast items from there.
-A lot of restaurants along the beach will let you use their umbrellas and chairs on the beach if you purchase something from them. Cervesa and ceviche, anyone?

Enjoy your trip, and go with Casa Perros Afortunados!

beyond our expectations

  • 5 of 5
My family and some family friends went to Puerto Morelos for about 10 days and it was so wonderful. The house is as beautiful as it appears in the pictures. We were in the pool every night enjoying the peaceful look out from the roof. Russ was very informative about everything we needed prior to the trip. Very nice guy and made us feel very comfortable with our stay. The staff of groundskeeper and family we were also super nice. The neighborhood was friendly and full of delicious food. The low season was the exact time for us to go because it gave us a chance to enjoy the locals without the constant buzz of tourists. We were to drink, eat and beach very freely. We recommend to try all of the restaurants and bars within walking distance as they are all unique and affordable. Our recommendation is to bring lots of bug spray as the mosquitos are hungry! We're already talking about coming back next year and bring more friends! Thank you foe the wonderful stay!

Wonderful Family Vacation in Puerto Morelos

  • 5 of 5
We - six adults and two babies - just returned from an awesome five-night stay at this house. The house is just as beautiful, clean, and comfortable as described in the listing. The rooftop pool was a highlight, and I believe we all jumped in within a half an hour of our arrival. Heaven! Russ, the owner of the house, was very quick to respond to my inquiries before our arrival, and I received an email with all of the necessary details about the house, including tips on transportation between Puerto Morelos and the Cancun airport, weeks before our trip. Lucio met us at the house when we arrived, and was as friendly and attentive as other reviewers have mentioned. He also made an extra trip out one day to greet a guest who arrived when the rest of us were out exploring Tulum. His lovely daughter, Suemi, showed up to clean the house on one of the days, which was very nice. Puerto Morelos is a very quaint, humble town, and the perfect antidote to the commercial craziness of Cancun and Playa. It was also a good jumping off point for our day trips to Cozumel, Tulum, Playa, and to Cenote Las Mojarras (a huge hit with our group!). Also, no reflection on the house itself, but tropical August heat was quite intense. The air conditioning in the three bedrooms was essential and very much appreciated. Our only regret is that our visit was so short. Next time we'll stay at least a week, and maybe in December!

Great beach rental!!

  • 5 of 5
You know a trip is off to a great start when the owners of your rental house are super responsive, friendly, honest and helpful! We received a welcome email with directions to the house, the caretaker's phone number, and info about the town (restaurants, services, etc). When we arrived, the caretaker was there and showed us around the home. He was so helpful. The house was very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the rooftop patio as much as every other reviewer has! The pool is amazing and there are areas for both sun and shade. All of the rooms are comfortably decorated and make you feel right at home. We cruised around the pueblo on the bikes provided - so much fun. The ping pong table kept us busy for a couple of hours one afternoon and made cold beers taste even better. The house is just 2 blocks from a beautiful beach where you can rent umbrellas and chairs for the entire day, plus receive food and drink service! Thanks to the owners for a wonderful experience! You cannot go wrong renting this house!! I highly recommend it to couples, families and friends.

Beautiful Home, we didn't want to leave!

Beautiful Home, we didn't want to leave!
  • 5 of 5
We just returned home from an 8 night/9 day stay. The house is exactly as described and is actually bigger and more beautiful than the photos .. It's a full 3 stories, with a 4th story observation deck. The house has 2 Master Suites, with King size Beds and private baths. The 3rd bedroom has 2 beds and a bathroom right outside of the room. All the bathrooms have lovely walk in showers. We thoroughly enjoyed the ping pong table, we played so much that we lost a few balls in the foliage (we left a brand new bag of ping pong balls, so enjoy!).
The roof top pool is wonderful to relax in the evening after a day of sightseeing. The media room is beautiful with all the electronics you could possibly want or need. Wifi throughout the house to stay connected.
Lucio , the manager and his family could not have been nicer or more accommodating to our every need. Russ, the owner went out of his way to make sure we had a wonderful stay. When my son and his Girlfriend left behind their ID's, Russ made a special trip to FedEx them to us in the States! Thanks again, Russ!
There were 4 Adults and 1 teenager staying and we had so much room, we never felt crowded and had plenty of activities for everyone to enjoy.
Everything in Puerto Morelos is within easy walking distance of the house. The OXXO store is a short 3 minute walk, straight to the end of the street. The Beach is within 3 blocks or so and downtown is a couple of blocks also. There are so many restaurants you would be hard pressed to eat at them all. Great shopping , fishing, snorkeling and dive shops all within a 3 or 4 block range. Puerto Morelos is a small village and everywhere we went the people were very kind and friendly. We cannot wait to go back!

felt like home

  • 5 of 5
My husband and our two sons (16 and 5) stayed at this property for a week in July. The house is absolutely lovely. The layout is great, the decorating is really awesome and the rooftop is the coolest place to hang out in town. We rented a car at the Cancun airport (about a 25 minute drive) with the intention of doing more driving around to the various Mayan sites and other towns. We made a couple of trips, but found that we enjoyed the house so much that we decided to stick around Puerto Morelos most of the time instead.
The beds were very comfy. The walk in showers roomy. The kitchen was very well stocked - though we rarely made use of it due to the large number of restaurants within walking distance. The entertainment room was a great place to unwind with a movie. The rooftop was the clear winner. It was always cool up top, and a nice spot for a nap. The plunge pool was perfect and we were in it sometimes twice a day. The beach was about 2 blocks away (5 minutes maybe) and was lovely. In front of the Ojo de Agua Hotel you can rent beach chairs for 150 pesos. They will bring you a table and you can order food and drinks - the nachos rock. Hang out for awhile, have a message even, and wander back to the house to putter in the pool. What a great way to relax. Then there's a little store right across the street for snacks, a cold soda or a beer.
Lucio and his family look after the house. We didn't meet his wife (we were gone the day she cleaned), but he was a really nice guy. He's very helpful and will check on you just to see if everything is going okay. Listen to his advice about places to eat - he was spot on. If there is a lady selling tamales across the street, buy them...they are delicious.
The owner's were available by email very quickly during the booking process and beyond, and were also very helpful with advice on the area.
Puerto Morelos is a charming town that is not overbuilt and resort-like as Playa del Carmen. We always felt safe. You can get anything you need right there in town. There's an OXXO 2 blocks away for groceries, and try the veggie and fruit stand between the OXXO and the house.
All in all, it was a great trip. The house really made the stay extra special though!
