We found this property on VRBO. This made my 3rd trip to Savannah and my husband's first. The property is very convenient. We walked out the back gate and were in Forsyth Park. The River Walk is .8 miles--not far at all. There is a small organic grocery store up the street (at the grassy end of Forsyth) along with a coffee shop. We had breakfast/coffee there and bought some items from the store. We also ate at the Gallery Espresso and Leopold's Ice Cream. Both are very close. We visited the City Market and had lunch there. The property is not far from Tybee Island--go down Liberty and get on the Island Expressway. The property itself is perfect for a couple. We stayed in the loft area for most of the visit--t.v., balcony, bathroom. There was plenty of storage if we wanted to unload your clothes. There is an iron, ironing board (did not use) and a hair dryer. We loved the little kitchen even though we ate out. The shower was perfect and the water was hot. We are thinking about purchasing a similar shower head for our home. The bed is a memory foam and we liked the firmness. The communication before we arrived was excellent! It was a great trip. This is a great property for the price! My only suggestion and it is a suggestion, not a complaint is to provide toiletries--maybe travel size shampoo and conditioner. Soap was provided.

Hi, I'm Mary and I am an experienced VRBO owner. I now manage vacation rentals including this one for friends and neighbors in downtown Savannah where I have lived for over 10 years. I love it so much here I almost never leave town!

I am a licensed real estate agent in the state of Georgia. Please visit my website www.savannahluxuryrentals.com for more information!

Mary Anderson purchased this house in 2004

Aside from the unique charm of this carriage house, it has what vacationers are looking for in its location meaning they can just walk out the door and be in the middle of the 'tourist attractions' of downtown Savannah. Lucky for us the tourist attractions are mainly beautiful outdoor areas like Forsyth Park (one block south of this house) and the gorgeous Squares throughout downtown in addition to the standout architecture and history found at almost every building you walk past.

For a one bedroom property this accommodation feels like (and truly is) a 'real house'. No shared walls. Great romantic getaway.

Cute Carriage House- Great Location

  • 5 of 5
This house was in the perfect location for walking all around Savannah! My husband and I stayed here with our two children (11 and 7) and this was perfect for us. We didn't really cook but there was plenty of room for us to spread out in the living areas. Wifi worked great and I loved the security of having locked gates at each entrance. We'll definitely be back, this was our first trip to Savannah. The King size bed was very comfortable and the dressing area was great! I have recommended this property to several family and friends already. I always love to look over the guest book when staying at a vacation rental (fun tips from past visitors), Mary was great to work with as well!

Adorable hidden gem!

  • 5 of 5
We have stayed in Savannah many times at several different hotels, B&B and residential homes...so far this is our favorite! The carriage house is full of southern charm. Cute, quaint and cozy yet spacious and was equipped with everything we needed. Mary was wonderful to work with and very timely in her responses. The location is impeccable..20 minute walk to the river, Forsythe park right behind you and within walking distance to many fantastic restaurants...a true hidden gem! Will definitely be back...soon! : )

Wonderful cottage! It was very cozy and comfortable. Perfect location. We had no trouble finding parking morning or evening. Enjoyed evenings on the deck. Mary was more than helpful. Very nice to work with. Will definitely come back!

Great location, but had several flaws.

  • 3 of 5
Pros: The location is ideal for sightseeing; we walked everywhere and did not need a car. Mary was very prompt in returning calls and answering questions. The house was clean and well organized. (Except for pillows on couch.) Ample supply of towels and toilet paper. Bedroom was comfortable, chairs on the porch very comfortable for having coffee in the morning. The kitchen was small, but had everything you need and was very organized. Cons: >The entryway was not in the condition portrayed in the photo. Several bricks were out of place and covered with a dirty rug. Boxes of miscellaneous items were stowed under the staircase. Random sheet of plywood and a large torn canvas were propped up against a wall. Loose bricks and debris were lying on each side of the step going up to the courtyard. When entering the gate there was a very strong cat urine odor. The interior gate area had mildew and peeling stucco. This unit was the only unpainted house on the block. >The courtyard was unkempt, not a flower in sight (something we were longing to see after our harsh Northern Winter) and weeds in the beds. The view was not like shown in the photo “view from porch of main house”. There was a mostly dead plant on the porch of the carriage house and that was it. The view from the porch was a metal staircase with two plastic trash bags someone threw out the door. When looking out the bathroom window (can’t open it) there is a courtyard that is more in line of what we were expecting, lush plants and flowers. The courtyard was disappointing. >Bottom step of staircase is not the same height as the rest of the stairs, so if someone is not careful they could lose their balance. This happened twice to my husband. It is an older home, just one of the quirks, just be aware. >The bathroom is very small and the sink cabinet sticks out enough that your head hits it when washing your face. You can’t get deep enough into the sink, so water ends up on the floor. The floor is tiled in granite, but there is no threshold to transition the height of the granite (about a half inch difference) to the wood floor outside the bathroom. We smashed our toes several times going into the bathroom. >The bedroom windows face the alley (along with the living area windows) which has flood lights that are on all night. If you are a “light sensitive” sleeper the light will bother you. (Curtains to pull over the blinds would be helpful.) Trash pick up is very early, but only one day a week, so not bad.

Owner's Response: The photos portray the entrance and outdoor space accurately. When you stay at a 150+ year old carriage house there will be imperfections. Almost all of our guests are seeking a place like this and appreciate the historic character. We plan to use this unexpected negative critique as motivation to improve on an already good thing. We had daffodil bulbs planted that failed to bloom during this atypical cold springtime in Savannah 2014. The famed Forsyth Park as well as several of the gorgeous Savannah "squares" are steps from this rental and are always professionally landscaped so beauty surrounds the home at all times. Future guests can expect a clean, comfortable and charming historic carriage house in an ideal location.
