With the hot and humid summers of Austin, Texas, my wife and some friends of ours were looking for an escape. We had always been told of Northern Michigan's little known incredible beauty, but it was never convincing enough to make us stray from the likes of Hawaii, St. John or California. Well after this trip it is hard to write this review because we still want to keep this incredible place our secret! The charming little town of Elk Rapids and the incredible Caribbean like waters of Lake Michigan, Elk Lake and Torch Lake can easily compare with these other well known destinations and in some cases even trump what you would find in Hawaii, St. John or California. Not to mention, you get all of this at a much less expensive cost and with a setting that you feel like the place is yours! We also found it amazing when you need a break from the breath taking waters and beaches that the area offers short half day trips to places like Harbor Springs/Bay Harobour where you will find the sophistication and elegance of the Hamptons or drive a bit further north and take the ferry to the horse and carriage only Mackinac Island where you will transcend back to the early 1900's. If you want to stay close by, the quaint town of Elk Rapids offers surpisingly good food and a laid back atmosphere that can only make you relax. If you are lucky enough to be there to enjoy the local festival Harbor Days, you will feel as if you are an extra in a small town movie scene as you ride the ferris wheel overlooking Elk Rapids Marina as the sun is setting over Lake Michigan in the horizon. I must say though, the real jewel of the trip though are the incredible accomodations that allow for ultimate relaxation, unobstructed views of beautiful Lake Michigan and the perfect setting to enjoy your time with your loved ones. You rarely find the craftsmanship that this house was built with in conjunction with the perfect blend of up to date ammenities that make the house able to host a beach party and a dinner party in the same day.

A Little Piece of Heaven

My husband, 7 month old son (at the time), and I had the pleasure of staying at this beautiful home last summer to enjoy a much-needed get-a-way. With an infant, we were looking for a relaxing vacation that still allowed us to have that comfort of feeling "at home." This lake shore home was the perfect solution!

The home is stunning, complete with breathtaking views, beautiful decor, plenty of space and a state of the art kitchen. By day, my husband and I enjoyed lounging on the private beach, soaking up the Northern Michigan rays, while the baby napped inside. Once the baby woke, he enjoyed the rest of the afternoon with us playing in the sand and splashing in the bay. The private beach was invaluable for that reason...it was like having a resort all to ourselves. By night we would cook a meal, dine out on the deck looking out at the Grand Traverse Bay, and watching the most amazing sun sets.

Elk Rapids is a charming, quaint little town that makes you never want to leave. One of our favorite activities was stopping in the local coffee shop in the morning, grabbing a latte, and then taking a walk down to the harbor and through the park...strolling along Lake Michigan the entire way. Just blissful! We made the short trip into Traverse City a couple times as well to enjoy the restaurants and a round of Pirate's Cove putt-putting. :-)

We will definitely be renting this beautiful lakefront estate again! It was our little piece of heaven!

Beautiful Lake Michigan Retreat

My wife and two children were fortunate enough to spend a considerable time in Northern Michigan away from the Phoenix summer heat. For a week of the trip we able to stay at this amazing Lakefront house on Grand Traverse Bay. The kids loved to play on the beach and it was a short walk into the charming Village of Elk Rapids. The house itself was more than adequate in size and allowed for the kids to go play in the basement while my wife and I could enjoy the cool breeze off the lake on the back porch overlooking the bay. A tremendous sunset view and great beach allows for maximum time spent outside. in short, this place has it all. Every Northern Michigan attraction (Sleeping Bear dunes, Mackinac Bridge and many more) are all within a days trip. If you plan on spending time in the Traverse City area, this location is it.

Fall in Northern Michigan is spectacular. Having this place as "home base" could not have worked better for my family and me. Very close proximity to the quaint little town of Elk Rapids which has every amenity needed (make sure not to miss Siren Hall dinner). Also be sure to hit the Pierce Stocking Drive at the Sleeping Bear Dunes (about an hour drive west) and take a day to drive north to Charlevoix (30 mins), Petosky (45 mins), and the Mackinac Bridge (1.5 hours).

The house itself it perfect for families and the view is spectacular. The kids were sent to the finished basement play area when we needed our quiet time. Wonderful kitchen for entertaining, and, my wife, who is a gourmet cook, was sad to leave the kitchen and head back to ours...my only complaint is now my kitchen needs an update.

The owners were very responsive to any questions we had. I will definitely be back!

As soon as you pull in the driveway, you can tell this house is one of a kind! As you walk in the front doors, the incredible lake view is before you via the large picture windows.
The house is extremely comfortable and spacious. Everything you need for you and your family is at hand. The yard is meticulous with access to its own private beach and a stunning view of the beautiful Northern Michigan sunset.

The location of the house is perfect! It's walking distance to the very quaint town of Elk Rapids and just a short drive to the larger yet beautiful Traverse City.

This home is perfect for individuals who want to get away and relax in peacefulness or for families who want to look for fun in the sun. And it doesn't stop there! The location of this home is perfect for people looking for winter time activities such as downhill skiing and snowboarding, sledding, cross country skiing, ice skating, (you get my point).

I will always recommend Northern Michigan as a great vacation sport and I certainly would recommend this home as the place to stay.
