Located on 16 acres of woods with a creek, this new log home has a campfire area for evening good times and s'mores, close proximity to Lake Michigan and Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. The cabin has a lovely back porch, loft, living area, well-furnished bedrooms, laundry area, modern kitchen, televisions, internet and wi-fi.
About Phil Lavender

Phil and Ginny Lavender are the property owners. We are both retired and would love to share our new vacation home with you. Our primary home is in Lake Orion, MI. although we both were born and raised in western Michigan.

Why Phil Lavender chose Honor

Phil's mother and grandparents grew up in the area and Benzie County has always been a second home. The family cabin, built in the late '30's is located just a few hundred yards away. Building our own log cabin has always been a goal for Phil and his sister who also built a cabin nearby.

What makes this cabin unique

Special attractions to our place are the birds and other wildlife, the closeness of Lake Michigan and the Sleeping Bear Dunes, Little Platte Lake and the Platte River. We especially enjoy our back porch overlooking a quiet stream and woods. We also really enjoy evening campfires and back-yard barbecues.

Come visit our new log cabin and have a wonderful time visiting the Sleeping Bear Dune National Lakeshore area. We are just minutes from many of the local tourist areas you will want to visit such as Empire, Frankfort, Crystal Lake, Traverse City and, of course, the dunes and shorelines of Lake Michigan.

Saffron Road has public access to Little Platte Lake which is a scenic 800 acre lake with quiet, natural beauty. Wildlife includes loons, beaver, eagles, and excellent fishing. The lake is connected to Big Platte Lake via Deadstream and Platte River and continues to Lake Michigan. Canoeing, kayaking,tubing and fishing are the main attractions.

Our log cabin is located in a wooded area only a mile from the the beautiful Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore park and all of its natural attractions such as Pierce Stocking scenic drive, the world-famous Dune Climb, Glen Arbor and the Manitou Islands. The sandy beaches of Lake Michigan are just a few minutes away. You may swim, build sand castles, or walk along the shore and hunt for Petoskey stones!

Our log cabin is open year-round for summer vacations, fall color tours, fishing, winter skiing and snowmobiling and spring mushrooming.

The area has many quaint lakeside communities, wineries, shopping, arts, antiques, dining, golf,wineries, casinos, and sight-seeing, etc. Find arts and museums at nearby Traverse City and Interlochen Arts Academy. Take a lighthouse tour at Point Betsie or take the family to the nearby Cherry Bowl Drive-in Movie!

We are located only minutes from Empire, Frankfort, Crystal Mountain(Skiing and golf), Interlochen and Traverse City. Other great golf opportunities are only minutes away as well as cross-country and snowmobile trails.

It couldn't have been more delightful. We'd wake in the morning to the sounds of birds chirping and go to bed at night after having s'mores by the campfire. What a way to spend a get-away. The stars by campfire are unbelievable! Sitting at the kitchen table you see a myriad of birds, rabbits, deer, and other species pass you by. It was great getting back to nature. The creek that runs through the back of the property is delightful.

The cabin is breathtakingly beautiful. It is new and clean and bright. Everything was as it was pictured and was totally as we expected. If not better. The beds were very comfortable. The place was even prettier than the pictures indicated. The owner was very helpful in assisting with recommendations, and assisting with questions we had.

We had planned this trip to mostly get away, but we found plenty to do. Since it was chilly (April) we didn't utilize the lake that is only about a block away, but did go hiking and traveled to see Sleeping Bear National Park. It was amazing. Also, with Traverse City only about 25 minutes away it was nice to go up and go shopping and paint the town red. We also went to restaurants and shopped in Honor and Beulah as well. Lots to do and see. I understand there are a lot of festivals in the spring and summer months.

We stayed with our children in our cabin, but also met up with some friends, so it was nice to also have a cabin across the street for them to rent. How incredibly convenient! This was another nice advantage for a large group.

I would recommend this beautiful cabin to anyone who enjoys getting away from the noise of busy life and wants to enjoy nature. You will really enjoy yourself in this restful, lovely cabin.

Our stay at the Log Cabin in Honor Michigan was very enjoyable. The beds where comfortable with nice linen. The bathrooms where very roomy. The kitchen was well stocked and overall the place was very clean. I would recommend it to whoever is looking for an "up north" getaway.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway
