About Gary Martin Wendt

I moved to Playa del Carmen on June 3, 2000; and then Playa moved me in so many ways. Living in the tropics was my dream and goal since October 13, 1987. I made it here, and here I'll stay to soak up the sunshine and other bits of paradise that are all around and free for the sharing.

I like the hacienda-style of architecture, Talavera tile and lotsa color. This apartment is not a box with rooms inside. This place has multifaceted character. And it's eclectic...in a comfortable way. I hope that you will know 'this is the one' to choose ~ the photos only tell a partial story; and also that your first impression when you arrive will confirm you made an excellent choice.

What makes this apartment unique

I can not mention the location enough, so one more time - this place is in the center of the center, yet close to the beach. Rent a car if you must, but you can walk everywhere. The beach is 4 'real' blocks from your door.

Great Getaway

The condo was exactly as described. The location cannot be beat as you are close to the entertainment of 5th and only a few blocks from the beach. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and could not have asked for better accommodations to suit our needs. Communication with Gary was very straight-forward and arrangements for payment and access to the condo could not have been easier. We look forward to our next visit and would not hesitate to stay here again. We have recommended Gary's condos to family and friends.

Great condo

The condo is exactly as pictured. Two bedrooms with attached bathrooms, plus another half bath. The living space with kitchen and small balcony were perfect for 4 people. There are a couple of minor maintenance issues that could be addressed (missing blinds in one of the bedrooms and sharper knives would be a huge help for cutting up all those limes!), but these can easily be overlooked when you are in such a beautiful setting. The location is perfect, just off 5th so you don't hear any late night noise but still really close to everything (OXXO, beach, 5th). Gary was easy to work with, no issues with payment. Would definitely stay here again.

Owner's Response: Hola Kris and Brett. I sincerely appreciate your comments. I am happy that enjoyed both my top floor escape and Playa. Your next visit will find cool curtains to replace the vertical blind set (6 verticals have broken, one by one), a knife set (the colored blade set that SAMS sells!) and a hair dryer thrown in for good measure. Si C6 will be ready for you !

Perfect Stay

I stayed for the holy week this year with my sister, her bf and our cousin and it was incredible. Gary was very helpful with everything, where to have lunch, where to buy groceries, etc. the apartment is super complete. everything you need to cook. plus it is super clean. I will totally recommend you to stay specially if you want some time out of the city but with all the commodities of it.

Close to everything

We rented Gary's 2 bedroom condo for 10 nights in March and were very happy with the condo. Gary was very helpful with bus directions from Cancun airport to greeting us at the bus depot and familiarizing us with the condo & area. The condo is close to everything no need for a car. A short walk to the grocery store & Walmart. Close to all the stores, restaurants and the beach. The location is great. The condo is roomy, clean and had 2 small balconies to sit out and people watch. We really liked that each bedroom had its own bathroom since our 20yr old daughter was with us. Gary was really easy to work with, responded quickly to our questions and checked up on us a couple of times to make sure everything was OK. He was also very helpful with how to get to different places and what was available around us. We hope we are able to return again next winter and have fond memories of his condo.

Great location! Great accommodations! Fun all around!

My wife and I spent a month-long working sabbatical here, and had a terrific time! Starbucks was a block away, as was Mega, and restaurants galore! Great for reading, writing, and people-watching! The beach was close enough to be close but far away not to be too close. Pepe' at Magnolia's and Carlos at La Pirata on the beach became excellent friends. Ah!Cacao shouldnt be missed, and there are a lot of local bakeries for breakfast goodies! The Gym is also nearby, and for only $100/month, it's a great deal! There's an inexpensive, overnight laundry across the street, the mid-town ADO bus station is about 2 blocks, and walking north on 5th Avenida is a great adventure - see if you can make it all the way to 120th! The maid service was good, and she came at times and days of our choice. The owner was full of info and helpful tips, and loves being in PdC! We had friends join us for a week at a time, and they were all greatly impressed with the lovely setting. It's also a great home base for exploring the Yucatan, including Cancun, Tulum, Chichen Itsa, XelHa-Ha, Cozumel, Isla Mujeres, and more. Tv, wifi, Shopping, restaurants, beach... We had a great time! The condo was well furnished and breezy, well-located and lots of fun. We've recommended it over and again to friends and family.... And can't wait to go back again, sooner the better!

Unforgettable escape within paradise

Hacienda Del Carmen's whimsical appeal is revealed by brilliant colors on the condo building exterior walls welcoming you inside the apartment to a perfect combination of Mexico-style charm with modern conveniences and comfort. The sparkling clean kitchen is fully equipped, nothing sparred with an accomodating service counter and custom designed dining table. The bedrooms are spacious with comfortable new mattresses and soft (I don't want leave) bed linens. The apartment is accented by the owner's eclectic art collection adding to the playfully quaint atmosphere. The neighborhood is perfect in every way. Walking to Mega, Daqs, La Quinta shopping, the beach and local discoveries add the delight of a perfect Playa getaway. I will return and recommend this property to anyone who wants a rental that is well maintained, enjoys the flow of sea breezes and has an accommodating owner.
