Lots of Space and Fabulous Views
Our big, comfortable, and fun retreat by Joshua Tree Park is perfect for large groups and families who need plenty of space to spread out. The original mid-century modern home is perfectly situated on an acre plus of beautiful indigenous plantings. Because of the unique geographic setting and architecture of the house, there are unobstructed mountain views from every room. We bought it last year and have completely remodeled and upgraded everything about this magical location, inside and out.
Landscaping and Outside Features
You will find around 30 mature Joshua Trees as well as two recently planted orchards. Looking through this desert-lush landscape beyond to the mountains gives you an ever changing palette for your celebrations and festivities, as well as a serene and calming background for quiet times and reflection. The enclosed veranda (solid roof, screened wall panels and doors) shares our central Flintstone type fireplace and chimney so you can have a nice outside-feeling fire or barbecue with all the comforts of a fully furnished indoor room. We also provide charcoal grills and a propane grill in the fenced backyard area, perfect for pooches to run around in and chase cottontails, squirrels, and quail.
Indoor Features
Living areas around this spacious veranda include a brand new cook's kitchen with two full ovens and a microwave, high-end dishwasher, plus a walk in pantry. You will also find plenty of dishes and cookware for easy entertaining. The main house has two bedroom/bath suites and a bonus media room with large flat screen TV. This bonus room provides another sleeping area for two with its own half bath. The large living/dining area, which has French doors opening into the veranda, has a central humongous fireplace. A queen sized sofabed comfortably sleeps two children when pulled out or one adult (with back pillows off it makes a twin sized sleeping area).
Separate Guest House
Attached to the main house by another roofed and screened in bonus porch there is also a guest house with full bath, kitchenette, living/dining area, and separate bedroom. Larger groups have the option of renting the guest house along with the main house. The guest house living room has a day bed that sleeps two, and there is a queen sized sleep number bed in the guest house bedroom. The main house will comfortably sleep six adults and two children, and the guest house will sleep four. Each section of the home has its own access and private areas, inside and out.
Accessibility
Our remodel included new plumbing, electrical, paint, fresh tile, new appliances, new mattresses, TV's in every room, new HVAC system throughout, the works. In the interest of comfort, safety, and accommodating everyone, there are grab bars in every bathroom and the master suite has a roll in shower, with ramp in and ramp out of the living space. The entire house is one one level and is ADA compliant whenever possible. For more convenience, our laundry room has brand new front loading, energy efficient machines, tile countertop, and utility sink.
Main House Amenities
With the goal of outfitting our home with all the comforts of a five star hotel, the master suite has its own mini frig, microwave, and coffee/tea seating area. The brand new king sized pillowtop bed is oriented so that you are facing the mountains. Down a small hallway is the media room, with a large new flat screen TV and comfortable seating. In this media room there is a brand new LazyBoy queen sized sofabed with upgrade to a mattress that combines inner springs, compressed air, and memory foam to make a very comfortable sleeping space. The half bath adjacent to this room makes it a workable option for a couple to use as a bonus bedroom.
In the main house the second bedroom suite has its own shower bath and hallway to the outside veranda and living area. From the brand new, top of the line queen sized tempurpedic bed you can see the mountains and watch the fireplace too. In keeping with the time period of the architecture, the whole house is decorated in a retro/eclectic style, with many artistic touches and conversation pieces to explore.
Climate Control
A continuous run of extra large windows along the front of the house bring nature right in to you with total climate control. In the remodel we tried to be as 'green' as possible, so each space has its own cool/heat unit that can be individually regulated, somewhat like a hotel. Stay cool while you watch the hummingbirds in the summer sage, stay warm while the mountains are snowy! All of the systems are brand new and remote-controlled.
More Guest House Details
The guest house, sleeping from two to four people, can be rented along with the main house. It has its own driveway, front door entrance, and a separate screened in and roofed porch that leads to an outside area with grill. The kitchenette has an apartment size refrigerator with icemaker, microwave, bar sink, hot plate, and large toaster oven available for cooking. All necessary dishes and flatware to make simple meals are provided. There is a dining area and TV in the guest house living room, and another TV in the adjacent bedroom. A full tub bathroom with shower looks out into the garden and trees beyond.
