PRIVATE HOME WITH PANORAMIC SUNSET OCEAN VIEW IN KAILUA KONA, HAWAII

Kailua Kona House Rental Photos and Description

Private Home With Panoramic Sunset Ocean View In Kailua Kona, Hawaii

This home has direct ocean views from the living room, the dining room, the kitchen and the master bedroom!

This is a 3 bedroom, 3 bath private luxury home with a panoramic (sunset) view of the Ocean. This is not an 'ohana' (or in-law suite) associated with another house as some of them are. This is a separate house on it's own separate lot. (Don't let the price fool you, we keep it low to fill our calendar.) This house has a private solar-heated pool…a hot tub with an ocean view...and is a 5 minute drive to the main shopping and restaurant district in town and also to the closest beach. The house has an extensive video collection of 'favorite' movies (including children's movies), with wireless in the entire house. The back of this house overlooks the ocean and is very private. The front overlooks the mountains.

We call this house the 'Crystal House' because of the crystals found in the foyer and scattered around the yard.

The house is in Kailua-Kona about 2 miles south of the main part of town with many restaurants and shops. Kailua-Kona is the main tourist spot on The Big Island. It is on the sunny side of the island (as opposed to Hilo which is on the rainy side). It is 80-85 degrees and sunny almost every day of the year in Kona. Kailua-Kona is on the coastline of the island. The Big Island is a magical place to visit. It's easier to understand this magic once you come, since a lot of this has to do with the 'feeling' many people get while on the island.

PARADISE

Our family of 5 had the time of our lives. The house matched the pictures perfectly. We spent as much time enjoying the peaceful lani and we did sightseeing. We would consider this home again.

EXCEPTIONALLY BEAUTIFUK

  • 5 of 5
It is our departure day, sad yet happy in that we spent the last few days at such a beautiful home. Everything you could possibly want or need is waiting for you. I couldn't have been more pleased. Laurie and Jacob: although we didn't meet, we kept writing each other. We were invited to join a lovely Drum Circle meeting and absolutly enjoyed the evening. Thank you again for your generious use of your home and all the amenities. Oh, and I must not forget this special treat. Laurie knew how much we wanted the hot tub, as the one they had was unrepairable. Prior to our arrival they were able to install a new one!! What a wonderful surprise!!! Thanks again for everything!!

BEAUTIFUL POOL AND VIEW

  • 5 of 5
We have had the best Hawaiian vacation of our lives. Three generations - grandparents, parents and teenagers - cannot be better accommodated than in the Crystal House. We found it to be an excellent home base for our exploration of the Big Island. We have wanted for nothing the entire time we've been here. Yesterday the pool water seemed as warm as the air! The blue guide book and suggestions provided by the owner were informative and we've done most of the top rated activities. BBQing fresh Island raised beef for friends who were staying in a hotel, snorkeling with sea turtles and seeing a rare Hawaiian monk seal were our highlights but walking through the lava tubes and visiting Kileaua Caldera were also great experiences. Our host could not have been more accommodating and we arrived to find the kitchen stocked with many staples. Shop at KTA and you will find a post office conveniently across the way. Expect to find everything you need to keep the entire family entertained - books, pool toys, coolers, playroom for small children, TV with DVR, an entire cupboard of games, playing cards, poker chips, meditation garden and sauna. Enjoy your stay! Our only surprise was that there was no computer.

SECLUDED FEEL IN THE HEART OF A NEIGHBORHOOD...

  • 5 of 5
We spent two weeks at this lovely & uniquely decorated home. The landscaping is such that we felt secluded in our own getaway, but we were actually in the heart of a well-established neighborhood! The location is perfectly located near all amenities, and a great secret is the road (Lako) leading to the highway is a 'shortcut' to Holualoa (nice, sleepily little town at a higher elevation with shops, galleries, eateries and coffee). That road also has the walking path that is nice and away from traffic (great for dog lovers)! The home is well maintained with a kitchen filled with everything we needed for cooking (and the BBQ's propane is included). Plenty of room for everyone to find their space and the on-call maintenance man is ever so gracious and responds quickly. The furnishings are exquisite so I would be hesitant to recommend for small children, although they have a play space for them set up in the garage. We hope to repeat our experience next year!

PERFECT PIECE OF PARADISE!

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I spent 6 weeks (mid January to the end of February) at this beautiful house in Kona. From our first contact with the owners, Laurie and Jacob, until our last day there they were extremely gracious, hospitable and helpful. Laurie has provided a binder containing many suggestions about everything from dining to excursions to shopping. Laurie and Jacob always responded quickly to any question we had. The house is wonderfully private, comfortable and luxurious and is well stocked with all the essentials as well as many extras (bicycles, snorkel gear, large DVD collection etc.). The view is magnificent. Every morning we would sit on the lanai, have our coffee and tea, and watch the humpback whales with the binoculars our hosts had thoughtfully provided. Every evening the reds and oranges of the sunsets were glorious. The pool is solar heated and was great to jump into at the end of a day of sightseeing. We were delighted to discover 3 fruit trees on the property (lemons, starfruit and bananas) and our hosts made it clear we were welcome to enjoy all of them. Laurie told us to consider the house, and everything in and around it, ours for the entire length of our stay and due to their generosity we truly did feel we were in our home away from home (although much warmer, as we are from Canada).
The diversity of the climates, topography and activities on the Big Island is amazing and this house in Kona is the perfect home base from which to experience it all. It only rained one day in Kona and the temperature was always around 80F. We went whale watching very close to the humpbacks, swam with dolphins and manta rays in open seas, climbed Mauna Kea at night to see more stars than we have ever experienced before, drove up and around a volcano, walked through rain forests, went to black and green sand beaches, just to name a few of our excursions.
All in all this was one of our favorite vacations and we will definitely be returning to the Big Island and to Laurie and Jacob's lovely house. Thank you Laurie and Jacob for everything. See you next time!

WONDERFUL TIME IN KONA HOME!

  • 5 of 5
We had 6 of us staying, two couples and 2 small children and found this house to be perfect but in terms of location and features. Our girls loved the pool and lanai, it was so great to have such a large covered outdoor space, we ate outside every meal and enjoyed the company of many types of birds that visit the home. Small touches like having a doll house and castle along with action figures led to our kids playing for many hours under the cover of the lanai between sessions in the pool. They were having so much fun at the house that they didn't really want to leave! The neighborhood was great , very quiet and residential you didn't feel like you were in a touristy area although within a 5 minute drive you could drive to the beach, shopping or downtown Kona with places to eat ect. Laurie has created a great guidebook of her personal recommendations of where to eat and visit in the area and that was very helpful. A nice feature of the neighborhood is that 3 blocks there is a nature trail with a flat graded paved trail. This makes for a great place for a morning stroll and we came across birds and even 3 horses. Highly recommended!

Getting around the Big Island is very simple since there is (pretty much) one highway going around the whole island. Check out the map of the island included in our photos. It's an excellent idea to get the book 'Hawaii The Big Island Revealed' before your visit.

SIMPLE BIG ISLAND VACATION PLAN OF MUST DO's: (see more details below)

1. Have Breakfast and coffee at Lava Java downtown 75-5799 Alii Drive- 327-2161 You may want to start every morning this way... Our # 1 'MUST DO'.

2. Lunch at The Coffee Shack. The view is 'wow'. (11 miles south on highway 11. (808) 328-9555)

3. Go to Huggo's for a fantastic dinner and view of the ocean followed by Huggo's on the Rocks (next door). downtown Kailua-Kona. http://www.restauranteur.com/huggos/. 808 329-1493. Needs reservation for Huggo's. Alii Drive, right of Royal Kona Resort.

4. Have Drinks at The Kona Inn- downtown on the water- Go for the view and the Mai Tai's. 75-5744 Alii Dr, 329-4010

5. Go to Hawi and eat at the Bamboo Restaurant for a very Hawaiian experience. Shop Hawi then go to Polulu Point (see more below).

6. Go Zip-Lining near Hawi!

7. Do the Sea Quest snorkeling and Cave trip boat tour with Captain Liam (2 miles from the house).

8. Drive to Volcano National Park (dont miss the Chain of Craters Road) and have lunch at Cafe Ono.

9. Drive to Hilo and see the Botanical Gardens, see Akaka Falls and eat at the 50's restaurant on the way.

10. Have a Lava Flow and snorkel at Kahalu'u Beach (2 miles away from the house, best snorkeling on island) and/or spend a day at (the more lush beach) Hapuna Beach, perhaps have lunch at the price Hotel next door- (45 minutes north).

11. Stroll through the Kona Outdoor Market open Wednesdays through Sundays. Downtown Kona next to St Michael's Church.

12. Go to a luau the Royal Kona Luau (2 miles from the house).

13. Check out some traditional Hawaiian take-out food to keep at the house. Kailua Pork gotten at the Kava Bar next to Wasabi's downtown and the 'Dynamite Poke' from Da Poke Shack on a mile away. Also Killer Taco's is a legend in Kona for take out tacos and the famous 'Barnyard Burrito'.

14. Consider para-sailing and Jet-skiing in close by downtown Kailua-Kona.

See below for much much more!

BEST BOOK TO GET: 'Hawaii The Big Island Revealed' (the blue book)- hands down.

The house offers a solar heated pool, an infra red sauna, an extensive video collection, and some toys.

We have boogie boards, surf boards, towels, beach chairs, coolers etc etc. Feel free to use anything.

A fantastic WALKING PATH is just up the street- (the Walua trail is 3 blocks up the hill to the right). This is a historic trail where donkeys used to deliver goods to this town. It is a fairly flat trail (hard to find in a hilly town like Kailua-Kona) and if you look you'll see mile markers, so you will know how long you've walked.

The house is close to one of the best snorkeling beaches on the island (Kahalu'u Beach Park), one of the best surfing spots (Lyman's Beach which you can see from the bedroom), 'Magic' Sands Beach (the beach is there... then it's 'not' there!) and Keauhou Bay (that offers many water activities- we love Sea Quest fast boat snorkeling and cave tours 329-7238 and dolphin excurions (see below for much more). In downtown Kona / Alii Drive you can sign up for parasailing, kayaking and jet-skiing.

.....Ask Laurie for the complete list of activities and restaurants- also included in our guest book in the house!
