We are a family of five who loves to be on the water, travel and explore new experiences. We have stayed in many VRBO places over the years and learned what we liked - and didn't - from rentals by owners. We strive to make our house a home for others too, because we enjoy it so much ourselves!

Diana Heyd purchased this house in 2010

Our whole family has loved traveling to Northern Michigan for over a decade. We so loved it that we decided to buy a home away from home to enjoy and share. We love Traverse City that has so much to do, year round, including the National Cherry Festival and Traverse City Film Festival. In the wider area, our favorite place to visit is Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore to climb the Dunes, but also enjoy being close to the Lake Michigan towns of Leland, Charlevoix, Petoskey etc. We never run out of things to do while we are there, and cannot wait to return whenever we leave.

Upon deciding to head Up North, we looked for years for the perfect property. When we drove down the secluded lane to this house and saw the peaceful lake views and home that felt just right - we knew! We love the lake and its friendly vibe, with a nice mix of year round and visiting residents. This is not a partying kind of lake, but one perfect for families who love all sorts of water and winter sports. The best feature of the home is the view of the lake! It is so peaceful, the stress just slips away as soon as we get there. The front of the house is lined with windows, so this view - including gorgeous summer sunsets and stars - can be seen inside and out. We just love this spot and hope you will too.

Our family week at Traverse City

We enjoyed being in this spacious home on the tranquil lake. The house allows for multiple family dwelling by the various settings of the rooms. Our grandchildren enjoyed the playroom with the toys and the tv was situated in there as well. The kayaks were fun and the house is very well equipped. The dining/living room was great for all our meals and just a gathering place with those wonderful windows to view the lake, sunsets and peaceful scenery. We could travel to the store, Traverse City and golf courses without being in our car a long time. Just a fun week!

Amazing place to stay! The house was amazing & clean. Eating breakfast the first morning looking out over the lake with the huge wall of windows set the stage for the rest of our stay. Steps to the lake. Outstanding dock and we even learned to kyak while there. The next time we come to Traverse City I will be contacting these owners again. The rental process was smooth and personable. I have not 1 negative thing to say. Thank you so much!

A Wonderful Vacation

We thoroughly enjoyed our one week stay at the HideAway. The house is beautiful, well-kept, and we appreciated all the amenities provided. The listing photos and description are very accurate. The lake is quiet and the water warm. Our boys (ages 13,11, and 10) enjoyed swimming, kayaking, and jumping off the deck. We also rented a paddle-board and water trampoline which kept the boys busy all week. In the evenings we enjoyed the beautiful sunsets and bonfires by the patio.

Owner's Response: We are so happy that you enjoyed your time at the Hide Away. Our "water toys" contact is the best in the business and helps to make a vacation FUN!

Spider Lake House

Our family enjoyed kayaking on Spider Lake quite a bit using the kayaks at the house, fishing from our boat in the lake and the surrounding area - Au Sable river and Arbutus lake. We toured wineries - liked Brys wines the best along with the Ice wine from Grand Traverse, hunted barn quilts on the Old Mission Barn Quilt Trail, visited the Old Mission lighthouse, the Sleeping Bear Dunes where we climbed the big dune and swam at North Bar lake, sailed in the bay on a tall ship, and enjoyed shopping in downtown Traverse City and in the Village at Grand Traverse Commons. We took a day trip to Mackinac island - ferry ride, horse drawn carraige tour of the island, biking around the island, fantastic lunch on the patio in the most beautiful setting at the Hotel Iroquois. We had a delicious dinner at Firefly in Traverse City and lunch at Amical downtown. The pie at the Grand Traverse Pie Company was really good. Some of us used some of the many trails in the area and around the bay. While we were there, we spotted deer (watch out at dusk), a turkey, a turtle in the road and some in the water, and of course, lots of fish. Sunsets were spectacular, and we had s'mores with a fire in the fire pit. Local maps are essential to getting around the area, and an iPhone/iPad helps. Garfield was our main road to and from the grocery, town, gas, fishing supplies, wineries, dunes, airport. Nice little airport.
My family enjoyed our stay. The listing description and photos reflected the appearance and amenities. I would recommend this property.
