Pauoa Beach is a new oceanfront community within the famed Mauna Lani Resort. Sites range from $1.5 million to $6 million, and custom homes range from $5 million to $12 million.
Built in 2004 with the finest in natural wood and island stone, Na Hale #5 features 2,652 square feet of air-conditioned living space under cooper roofing plus an expansive covered lanai, custom pool with water terrace and hot tub flanked by a shady thatched hale, outdoor grilling area, tiki torches, private driveway, and 2-car garage.
Available by the night, week, or month, Na Hale #5 comes with access to the private Pauoa Beach Club (with 2 pools, fitness hale, hot tubs, saunas, massage pavilions, showers, full kitchen, wine cellar) all located directly on the beach. Guests also have access to the private Mauna Lani Beach Club with its own restaurant, lounges and cabanas, and easy rental of snorkels, paddle boards, kayaks and other favorite beach toys.
Included in the rental price is use of electric GEM car, perfect for shuttling your family within the resort.
In addition to 3 separate master suite pods with en suite bathrooms, Na Hale #5 comprises an entertainment/dining pod, a kitchen pod with laundry room, an outdoor BBQ area, a private pool area and hale, and a powder room.
The spacious entertainment/dining pod, through the entry double doors, overlooks the pool, tiki torches, and the third fairway of the famed South Course, former home to the annual Senior Skins Game. With natural stone flooring and atrium ceilings made of Alaskan cedar, this pod features a dining area for 8, as well as a HDTV-Blu Ray area with sofa, 2 large chairs, 1 lounge chair, electronic window coverings, high-end surround sound and Apple TV.
The lanai, off the entertainment/dining pod, features quartzite flooring, an alfresco teak dining table for 6, 4 large cushioned loungers on wheels, towel storage cabinet, and 3 sets of double gas tiki torches. Nearby, the BBQ area boasts a Wolf gas grill encased in lava stone, and a wet bar.
Adjacent to the large freshwater pool and 6-person hot tub is a thatched hale with 2 wicker chairs and a table, and 2 tiki torches. The pool features steps on both sides, and a water terrace to relax in chaise lounges.
The kitchen pod's 2 sets of pocket doors open onto the pool and BBQ area, and boasts granite countertops with 2 oversized padded bar seats, double stainless-steel sink, stainless-steel appliances (SubZero refrigerator, Dacor gas stove, grill and convection oven with hood, Bosch dishwasher, Broan compactor, Kenmore microwave), crystal stemware and china dishware, and a separate laundry room with Maytag Neptune washer-dryer, linen closet, and sink.
All 3 separate master suite pods at Na Hale #5 boast raised atrium ceilings made of Alaskan cedar, solid-wood pocket doors welcoming Pacific Ocean breezes, ceiling fans, electronic window coverings, individual en suite bathrooms (plus decadent outdoor showers), zoned air-conditioning controls, the finest linens, and HDTV-DVDs.
Master Pod #1 faces the private pool and hot tub, and the No. 3 fairway, and features a king bed, pillowed lounger, writing desk, stereo alarm clock, phone, and walk-in closet with safe. The en suite bathroom has a double vanity, marble counters, door-less stone shower, spa tub, and outdoor rock wall shower.

Just got back! I was at this place last week, my friend just kept saying, "Isn't this place great?" He also kept trying to change his flights to later in the week to enjoy the top notch, better than Four Season's feel the grounds and amenities provide. As one reviewer has mentioned, this is a great location for many reasons but the sharing of the beach with the Fairmont which adds energy to the beach experience with a full bar and rental options for the water. But if you want to be in silence, you can easily do it by walking 2minutes to another spot on the beach or staying poolside at the large beautiful shared beach view pool. Both are great for Kids. But really, you can just stay at the house and enjoy the view of the mountain. The pricing is competitive with any 5 star resort but it is a way better set up with Kitchen, laundry and great grocery store nearby. Also, being able to use the electric car is a huge bonus!
Seriously, if you're looking for an utterly luxurious, highly appointed, phenomenal piece of paradise on the Big Island, put down your mouse and look no further because this is it! We stayed in this villa with two other couples and it was just perfect! The place is better than most resorts. The layout is fabulous for entertaining and each unique room is spacious and offers privacy if you want that! We barely left the home except to walk down to beach club, pool and nearby resorts! This is truly an exceptional home with everything you could possibly need!
We started our Hawaiian vacation in Kona for a few days at this great home before heading to Maui for the bulk of our time and wish we could have stayed here the whole time. If you're deciding between a resort hotel and a private home, this is the ultimate combination: you get all of the great conveniences of having your own home (and your own kitchen) in a great neighborhood community PLUS the proximity to one of the best beaches in the area at the Mauna Lani resort just a couple blocks distance from your front door, not to mention the private amenities afforded by the Pauoa Beach Club community itself (fabulous infinity pool, spa, workout facilities, etc.), also just steps away (actually on your way to the beach). Plus, the neighborhood is very close to a grocery, great restaurants and more, so the electric car is a blessing to have if you don't have the time to take the beautiful walk. The house itself is amazing. Designed in the Polynesian pod-style, this layout provides great privacy for each of the three bedrooms/luxury bathrooms, and then a couple more pods for shared spaces, plus the pool and hot tub in the center of all of the pods. Great set-up for 3 couples, but can accommodate other combinations of families as well. Each of the pods have floor-to-ceiling wood sliding doors that completely open your room to the outside (or close you in at night) - maybe a small detail but we loved that! The view from the back pool area is a peaceful fairway - by the way, there's great golf right there too, though we didn't have time to play that course, unfortunately. The pictures on this website do a good job representing how beautiful this home is, but nothing compares to being there. Loved this place and hope to be back soon!
I had the pleasure of staying in this beautiful home with some girlfriends for a quick get away. The house itself is awesome with the big fully furnished kitchen, huge bedrooms, lovely pool and hot tub. You could not ask for a more picturesque setting. The amenities in the area made the trip even better with great pools and work out facilities just down the road. There are also beach bars, restaurants, and a quaint gourmet grocery store available to you. If you are visiting Kona you must stay here!
I rented this home for eight days to celebrate my 50th birthday and it was better than I imagined! The home itself was spectacular (highest quality finishes, great layout, private access and location) and the common amenties including access to the beautiful, private beach club (pool, spa area, workout facility) and to the Fairmont Orchid beach made it that much better. One of things that I especially liked about the home was the privacy it afforded. The "pod" structure made each bed/bath very independent. It worked out great for me and my older kids and would make a perfect arrangement for up to three couples. I highly recommend this spot for any special vacation or occasion.
This is the most amazing house I ever rented in Hawaii. The location is stellar and so , so close to the best amenities in Kona. But I have to say, when you walk in this house , you may never leave. The interiors are beautiful and very comfortable. The exterior is lush and completely private. We ate in several nights , using the BBQ , which was totally relaxing and fun for our family.
We can't wait to get back!
The exclusive Pauoa Beach community is located in the most desirable area of the Kohala Coast on the beach directly between the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows and the Fairmont Orchid Hotel. Guests at Na Hale #5 are mere steps from a white sandy beach with protected swimming and snorkeling, the Orchid's oceanfront bar, a sand volleyball court and easy access to all one's favorite water toys including kayaks, surf and paddle boards. Perched just overlooking your beach, guests can relax around the fabulous Pauoa Beach Club pool or watch sunset from one of its two outdoor spas. Also overlooking the beach is the only fitness facility with a million dollar view on the Big Island boasting state-of-the-art exercise equipment, flat screen televisions and the opportunity to work out with a personal trainer. Inside the separate mens' and womens' locker rooms guests can enjoy private steam and sauna, another whirlpool tub and a luxurious outdoor massage hale. Pauoa Beach Club guests also have access to a professional concierge who can do everything from book reservations to explore and arrange island excursions seven days a week.
Just outside the gates of the post Pauoa Beach Club, guests can take a 10 minute walk to the Shops at Mauna Lani where there are many boutiques, a wonderful gourmet market and 5 restaurants (Monstera Sushi, Tommy Bahama's, Ruths Chris Steak House and others). A short 5 minute walk from there will take you to the Mauna Lani Racquet and Fitness Club and the luxurious Mauna Lani Spa. Here you can choose from a host of daily fitness classes and yoga, join in a tennis clinic, swim laps in their pool or rent bikes on an hourly, daily or weekly basis and explore the entire 3200 acre Mauna Lani Property.
